The reel still works with a dead battery it will be set default to the highest braking when it does though. The reel app is also entirely in Japanese for the initial release.

Would absolutely love to own one of these!!! I’m actually really close to buying one from a dealer off eBay. $899 plus tax for US buyers so right at $1000! I would absolutely already have bought one if the app was also in English.

Thank you for providing more info about this new Daiwa technology. Personally I don't like the idea of depending on smartphone and eventually power bank for my reel to work properly. I don't see the necessity for so much eletronics and software for a reel. Shimano DC breaking system was already a little bit too much for me and I never felt the curiosity to try it. I'm just fine with magnetic and centrifugal breaks. Maybe there's a market target for IM Z but in my opinion it's narrow.

simple guess for me is Daiwa has literally endless possibilities that could make it not only completely worth it but the hottest reel everyone wants. Imagine as bank angler connect to the app it gave you cast count, aprox distance, kept track of your lure, and had little map to see water you covered? absolute fire imo! that said its all a guess and if its $900 for Daiwa whos never made an app (all depends on app imo for the reel to succeed) to say here your cast count an lure get a digital star... expensive flop

Idk I see all the bad and good. For people that say anything about the price that is just how it goes, but the tech goes into the "lower end"models after years. I know alot of people who spend half or that much on rods alone. Plus they are taking the data and seeing how to prove again all that work that goes into anything is not free. Plus what is the difference from charging your reel from charging your forward facing sonar or trolling motor batteries? Not trying to sound like a*$ but am just curious, how many of us would use these reel if it was given?

To me, as great as the technology is. Anything beyond DC breaking is really usless. Can't wait to see all the show-off vids on how far someone can cast a lure, showing facts and figures. 🤮 To me, Shimano still does it the best without the need for charging or fancy usless facts and figures most anglers could give 2 blanks about. I am putting my money on that anyone who buys this or the new Kastking cheep knock off in the IReel. They will stop using the app, with in the first few months, if not weeks.

That reel in a broken economy won't survive ! There aren't many going to buy it cause it takes time to use during a tournament and computerized stuff doesn't go well with Water .Just my opinion !

The reel will definitely survive in this economy. It’s only a few hundred dollars more than a conquest which plenty of people buy In the us. The reel is sold in Japan, so the main consumer will be there and they love to buy high end gear there. The reel works after the battery dies. I’m sure it’s sealed everywhere including the usb port. I think the only downside is that it goes to max breaks when it dies

Most of the features are gimmicky garbage. I guarantee you will get sick of charging if it dont get corroded and stop first. Then, you will be stuck with it in dumb mode. If it works at all. I will keep my Antares MD.
