I really appreciate this video. I have both OA and dermatomyositis....The myositis part of that affects all muscles negatively, but for 2 years I knew it was also making my tendons very sore. I have that exact soreness in the front of both hips and a GP said it wasn't arthritis, (which I knew) and that the only place I would be sore is on the outside which would be trochanteric bursitis which I also have . Recently, there have been articles stating that myositis affects tendons! DUH.....Your channel has been SO helpful for me as your approach is very different than the PTs I have seen. They have you doing things that make my situation worse. Thanks so very much, Dr. David! You are a gem. 💎

You are amazing. I have hip bursitis that comes and goes. Last several months was very painful to walk. Had an x-ray hip looks fine. Had an MRI labral tear and a small glute med tear. No surgery is necessary. I have been watching all of your hip and tendinitis videos - thank you. My question: I have pain in the groin as well as a little bit in the buttocks. Prior to the diagnosis I had to stop doing any single leg lifts, abduction, and clamshells as those movements would really aggravate. I am just starting with your hip warming up and exercises and wondering since I’m not 100% sure if I have a groin strain as well as a labral tear is there anything other exercises you would recommend I avoid? Not really doing much of anything prior to your videos as everything would aggravate. I am headed to Florida for six months and I’m planning on looking up your trusted friend Jake Berman, even though I will be 150 miles away! Need to get better! Thank you

I have constant pain, did not stop with stopping inactivity. Have had it for years. Diagnosed as gluteal tendinopathy with tears on MRI, I am a former runner. My sister just had surgery to tack the tendons to the bone. I would rather do exercise- do you think its too late?
@epmanualphysicaltherapy
@epmanualphysicaltherapy 2 жыл бұрын
Hey K McDono, sorry to hear about your gluteal tendinopathy with tears :-( If you can rest enough to let the tendons heal, then it's not too late. You've got to get off your feet. Maybe even use crutches. If you can avoid using the hip muscles for long enough, then it should heal enough for you to avoid surgery. But if you keep aggravating the hip tendons, then you might worsen the tears and be on the pathway to needing surgery :-(

I think that I might have given this to myself a year ago when I was going up and down the three step ladder in my kitchen. I was replacing the drywall ceiling and then sanding the drywall and then painting. I must’ve gone up and down that short ladder 500 times in two weeks. But normally I sit all day at a computer. I went back to sitting down and the pain went away. And then recently, I found myself using crutches and the leg that was doing all of the work has fired up enormous hip pain.
@epmanualphysicaltherapy
@epmanualphysicaltherapy 2 ай бұрын
Hi TheRooftop, We’re so sorry to hear that you’ve been struggling with hip pain after all that work on the ladder. It’s completely understandable that frequent steps could have caused some inflammation in your hip, especially if the proper muscles weren’t activated while going up and down. We hope you can feel some relief soon. It was smart of you to use crutches to offload the stress for now, and we hope that gives you some relief. It’s good to rest the hip a bit but it’s important to get some gentle movements in the hip if you can. We have a hip tendonitis playlist that you might find helpful as you work through this. You can access it here: “Hip Tendonitis Pain Help” kzbin.info/aero/PLJVIPiFvv1mZPDx9GZquiuCwOeVyq4e3T Start with one or two exercises, beginning with the smallest range of motion and the lowest intensity. As you feel stronger, you can gradually increase both the range of motion and intensity. It’s best to do these exercises every day throughout the day. Aim to tire out the muscle without losing form or control. Consistency is key. Always avoid working through pain; soreness and mild discomfort are normal, but pain is not. Thank you for sharing your experience with us, and we truly hope you can find some relief soon! Wishing you all the best on your road to recovery. We'd love to hear how you are doing as you progress.🙌 Please take care!

Hi doc! I have a question. First I have to tell you that you helped me so much it's unbelievable! I have a tear in my hip flexor, same in my knee, and arthritis in both, both on the left side, I could not even walk upstairs (or downstairs) without holding on and using only one leg at a time, if you know what I mean. I was in PT for months and only stayed the same or got worse. I watched your videos about needing to strengthen glutes for knee pain, and not quads, which is what he was making me do, and I would be limping for two days after. I stopped going and followed your videos for glutes and calves, and improved so much! First I didn't need to hold on, then I could walk up and down with both legs - no problem! Here's my question: Suddenly I woke up with the same old severe hip flexor pain as before, right in the front, (tendonitis the doc said) and it hurts when just walking or anything. I'm not sure if I should totally rest it first, or go to the exercises in your hip flexor videos, not sure if it's because I got too confident and stopped being so diligent in my glute program, or because I was walking up and down without ever holding on as if I never had a problem so I hurt it again, or what. I got a little lazy about it lately because I didn't have any more problem, so it isn't from working out too hard, but maybe from not enough exercise now. Not sure how to proceed now! You did too good a job to begin with.
@epmanualphysicaltherapy
@epmanualphysicaltherapy Жыл бұрын
Hey there! Great question! First and foremost, flare-ups are common during the recovery process. If that is what this is, then continue working on the glutes and you should notice more progress. It is also possible that you are still not using the glutes enough. Exercising the glutes is great! But it is not always enough. It would be better to incorporate your glutes into things you already do all day. For example, we really support using your glutes for walking! If you can start walking with your glutes, then you will always be using them. At that point, it may not be necessary to do glute focused exercises. We have a great video that shows how to use your glutes while walking in case you haven't seen that yet. Here is a link: “Does Walking Help Knee Pain?” kzbin.info/www/bejne/aaXXp2lsntlsrpY

@@epmanualphysicaltherapy thank you for responding! I'm probably still not using them enough. You're right, I've also gotten lazy about doing the glute walking, although, in my defense, doing it aggravates that left hip flexor a lot. I'll continue with the glute exercises; I always do the standing ones, because it seems to me that the ones on all fours are the same exercises but just from a different position, and I much prefer standing, it's much less awkward. Maybe I should do them more often, maybe four times a week. Thank you again, your response is very much appreciated!

I was having issues during an exercise class but was doing well with the camradery! Such a delimma, if you can walk outside or get your mind off it, it helps tremendously. So I may go for part of the class, and then roll up the rug and walk out. They won’t ask any questions.

I had a Harrington Rod Fusion in 1975 and I had no idea at that time that the surgeons were setting me up for hip tendinitis and hip arthritis. Not really their fault but still, now I'm in real trouble. I need a hip replacement and the top of the femur is not going to sit in the hip socket properly either. This is why I've ended up needing the hip replacement to begin with.

@epmanualphysicaltherapy
@epmanualphysicaltherapy Жыл бұрын
Hey there, the best way to fix this is to take pressure off of the muscles you are using too much. It is very important to use your glutes more than your quads. We discuss this in some of our other videos if you are interested in learning more. Here is a link to our playlist: “Hip Tendonitis Pain Help” kzbin.info/aero/PLJVIPiFvv1mZPDx9GZquiuCwOeVyq4e3T

Thank you so much! Might you know of someone in NY I can go to? My pain is on my left groin. I notice that when I’m in pain, and pull down on my left side from the waist down, the pain lessens and goes away and I walk normally.. I also have an obturador hernia in that area. My pain comes and goes. I’m hoping that it’s hip tendonitis bc I notice that I’m not stiff in the morning. Praying that I won’t need hip replacement surgery. Thank You, Evy in NY

Hey Dannus, sorry to say we do not know of anyone in NY. It could be an impingement of some of the tendons in the front of the hip/groin area. If you follow our content for hip arthritis, you will still target the correct muscles to help fix this issue.
