I stumbled on this video, so forgive me if you have already done this: This is a best selling book, a course, a whole conference! So may invaluable nuggets of wisdom that were paid for dearly over the years. Thank you for sharing, but I hope this gains momentum because every homeschooling mom needs to hear it!

In regards to curriculum not working, often times a child hits a wall developmentally and just needs a little more time to grow before moving on.

Yes! It can be that no curriculum will work, they just need to simmer on the topic awhile and it will click later!

Great tips! I love your channel for many reasons especially because I am also a homeschool mom with kids in all areas (college, high school, middle school and elementary school). You speak my language! I have learned so much over the years as well. ❤

THANK YOU, thank you, thank you!! Was having one of THOSE days! Love the reminder from Romans 8:28! All of it was pearls of wisdom and I'm now wiping away tears of renewed hope instead of frustration!! Thank you so much Shayla and all commentors for insight and clarity!

The freezer prep meals make so much sense and I’ll definitely be implementing that as we gear up this year.

Great tips! I wish I wouldn’t have compared my experience being homeschooled as much with my experience of homeschooling my kids. My kids aren’t my sister and me, and I’m not my mom.😊I’m glad the algorithm got something right and showed you to me today. 🎉

Oh my goodness. Freezer prepped dinners are such a good idea! As a momma who is pregnant with #4 - and at the end of my very nauseous first trimester . . . I am definitely going to add that to my meal plan for the next few weeks. Since we are starting our school year mid-august this year so we can have a lovely big break when baby arrives at the beginning of the year. Also - the amount of isolation I've had because I protect that morning time for school has been really hard. I'm glad that I can listen to another momma with experience to tell me that I'm on the right track with that!

So many good tips in this video. This is my fifth year and back to school as wonderful as it is is also extremely stressful when it comes to. Also, trying to juggle all the house duties, I don’t know why I had never thought to meal prep freezer meals. This will be a game changer and help my fried brain at the end of the day! Thank you for sharing your wisdom.

I never heard of Cathy Duffy! When I started homeschooling (2010, I believe), I thankfully knew a lot of people who were homeschooled when I was growing up and who homeschooled children a little older than my older kids. I asked them questions and was recommended a few things to get me going (but figured what I wanted and usually chose differently than they used (plus knew of co-ops, etc. It was so good to know so many homeschoolers and homeschooler moms! I loved your talk about the "educational bucket." I wish that I knew that I didn't have to make the setting look like a school room with desks, but could just be outside or be at the kitchen table and such. It took me a few years to get to that. Great video!

Congratulations on the new channel and best of luck in this new endeavor! All of your points brought tears, and I’m 9 years in. I hope this wisdom reaches many new to homeschooling moms. The lack of confidence was a big one for me. And you’re so right in switching curriculum. I would have been better off adjusting what I was using instead of switching because there is no perfect curriculum and you do lose a lot of time and set your kids back when you jump around. Can’t wait to see how this channel works out for you. God bless!

So real.. everything you said .and yes..they do throw trash on the floor .this is my 3rd year as a grandma that homeschools my grandson who has learning issues..I'm still searching for the right curriculum in every subject. The struggle is real And I feel that his success ..or failure is all on me...lots of pressure.the first year went ok.The second year was a total bust .I kept changing curriculums..plus he went through a very hard time in his life with a family member dying. So here we go again..I'm up until 3am most nights searching for the right curriculum for him😢.And I too tell myself to just put it in God's hands..it'll be ok..thanks for this video.. I feel so pressured to bring him up to the level he is supposed to be in grade 7 but is learning at 3rd and 4th grade level. I have to remember that homeschool isn't about grades. That's what everyone tells me anyway. But then they still ask me what grade is he in? And I find myself saying we don't go by grades because what else are you supposed to say? And I need to just cover up those grade levels on his books so that he can't see them because I don't want him feeling embarrassed. I mean really, it's daunting and I do most of the time feel like a failure. There are those times when he has an aha. I got it moment that we both celebrate greatly. I believe overall he is doing better because when he left public School he was learning at a first and second grade level. So there's that. Sorry this is so long but you just opened up so many windows in my mind. I also have no idea what all I am supposed to be teaching him and scope and sequence and what subjects are definitely required and I just feel like the bare minimum basics are what he needs for life, but what does he have to have in order to graduate? How much do you push a struggling student beyond yond? What seems to be their capabilities? I don't know to be quite honest. I don't know. I'm trying. I'm doing my best. I will rewatch this video again to reinforce myself that I am doing okay. Thanks again

Just figure out what year he would technically graduate and let him tell others that next grade level each year. Don't worry about failing or falling behind in different areas. God's got it and we don't have to worry. Everyone learns at different paces and are in different places.

I’m also a grandmother who’s teaching a struggling now 8th grader. I’m saving this video as well to rewatch to remind me to relax it’ll work out. I’m am going to focus on reading and math and relax by doing gentle other subjects. She is amazing at remembering things we talked about or read together w/o busy work. I’ve thought about the fact, if you can read well you really can learn any other subject at ANY time. She’s good at math (w/o story problems). I also search curriculum a lot … I’ve had good outcomes with really old ones and ones w/o all the fluff. Also ones where I can see how it progresses. So much out there has way of all over the place if that makes sense. And establishing habits or a rhythm has helped us too. It gives a sense of calm in my humble opinion.

Am also second generation, so hve some ideas but my family has a very different situation that I did growing up. So always am looking for fresh ideas for this day and age!

I'm interested to know what homeschool methodology you have been settling into these past few years. I just graduated my firstborn, and have five more kids to go, the youngest being three. When we decided to have #5 I started using workbooks (CLE) for a few subjects, where previously I had been really guiding and teaching everything myself from a classical (classical conversations) standpoint. I'd like to move more into the Charlotte Mason realm, but I'm juggling a lot, and don't feel like I have the time to literally become a different type of teacher when I'm so busy just wearing the admin hat, and being a teacher to the younger one's. 😬 I have one in high school, two in Middle School, one in first grade, and a 3-year-old, so maybe I will settle into a new methodology for the younger two at least in time to come. My husband has given me the good advice of sticking to what I'm doing now, but sprinkling in some of the other things I want to do. I agree it's a good idea, so hopefully I'll be able to add more time as being teacher, not just admin, and beautiful delightful aspect this next year. 🙏🏼
