I first had the Adidas Powerlift 3's, they were okay, but not what I was looking for. Then I got Romaleos 3 and they were a nice first "proper" weightlifting shoe, but they choked my toes and I'm pretty sure were a little too small in general, but I lifted in them for over a year. Around last summer I got Rom 4's and I am "sufficiently" happy with them. They have a nice weight and build quality to them, but all the issues they do have come from just not being Rom 2's and that breaks my heart. The material on the inside is this weird synthetic fabric that is a little "slippery". Combine that with the heel part being a bit more open on the inside than Rom 2's and what you get is some heel slip. That's annoying and creates the second problem of friction, so now I have holes worn through both heels on the inside, as well as my foot not being 100% secured, but it's still good enough for me not to care. The second issue is the nose lift on the shoe, which makes no sense. I wish the sole was completely flat, LIKE THE ROM TWO'S ARE, so I wouldn't have that heel lift as soon as my weight is even a tiny bit forward. And it doesn't help that my shoe size is 43, which is like the most normal male size, so I couldn't dream of picking up Rom 2's at a normal price.

Yeah you’ve pretty much described everything that most people suffer with and don’t get along with it! It is such a shame that they obviously don’t want to go back to the Rom 2 way :( You and I Both! Wouldn’t we tiny little feet or GIANT feet!

Great vid! Legit haven’t ever used a pair of lifting shoes after almost a decade of lifting, but was hunting for a pair for a while and Nike finally had a pair of Rom 4’s available in 10.5. I have a pair otw and excited to feel the difference in stability and balance. Sadly never got to experience the Rom 2’s :(

I have two pairs in great condition. I bought them around 2014. One was $160 the other $120. I still use them to this day. I hope they last another decade.

I had the bright orange and teal (Miami dolphins I called them) of the Romaleo 2s. I got them in clearance because no one wanted that color and I just wanted good cheap lifting shoes and man oh man do I miss those I lost them in a move, still like new after 2 years of on and off use. When the 3s came out I already skipped instantly but I got the 4s and it’s the closest thing we’ve gotten to the 2s

@@HanLifts god the 2s were the absolute bees knees!!! And they had a bit of a wider toe box unlike the 4s even sizing up and my poor toes feel like they’re getting way too well acquainted with one another 😅😅😅

I am a fossil now in wl years and use old wood-heeled adidas from the early 00s but bought a pair of romaleos 2 new a few months ago just to see what the fuss was about as I never bothered when they were current. They're really nice and stable laterally and front to back but they are also somewhat clunky as far as the flex point of the shoe. The fit is fine but you definitely feel like they are strapped on to you vs being an extension of your foot. I find the rake angle of the romaleos 2 to be quite different to the adidas, more pitched forward given the same heel height. In comparison an 08 adistar or 04 adistar or ironwork 2 you get the smallest relatively comfortable size, suffer for a week and they fit almost like a leather glove to your foot once they stretch out. They are super light and just have electric response. A very different approach. I kind of think that was the intent with the 3 which I have tried before as they were on deep discount here in america for a time. A lot of people just blame crossfit for it, but I think they were trying to mimic the frontal flex of the adipower more than anything and make something light like an adidas but people were buying their old models because they filled the brute force build quality, chunkier fit niche nobody else was. The 4 seems to be a big screw up as nobody seems to fit it well. Everyone is complaining about heel slip which is nuts given all the straps and laces.

WOW! How long have you been lifting? I would absolutely love to get my hands on old wood-heeled adidas! Interesting thoughts! I would agree with you for a lot of that and I think that a different approach is great to get to know what could be done better! At the end of the day it comes down to preference and what you like lifting in!

@@HanLifts Probably like 60% of my life, but I used those movements to be explosive for ice hockey. I am much more slow twitch dominant so it helped. They need to do what reebok did with that new version of the legacy. Take the 2, build a bit more flexion in the front, reduce the weight somewhat maybe by adding more ventilation and leave the rest alone.. They honestly could probably achieve a lot of it by just shipping with one footbed but redesigning it to not be so heavy but still be contoured and hard.

I actually wonder how it seems that romaleos 2 are everywhere, almost every weightlifting athlete wears them, but they are out of the market. How’s that possible? I truly wish Nike would just start to sale them again.

I have both 2’s and 4’s. Both at a very good price as I’m in the “unusually large” shoe size side of the equation you mentioned. Flat feet so the 2’s are more comfortable as the 4’s seemed to have a high arch. A guy in my gym said he had his 2’s for six years so I’m guessing they last quite a while.

@@kozmo7 I didn’t notice the difference in width or toe box but I was buying a larger size at the time than I currently do so I’m not a good source for that information. Again, the main difference for me was feeling the exaggerated arch in the 4’s. I prefer the 2’s.

Don’t super glue your weight lifting shoes. Use e6000. It’s more rubbery and will give with the shoes, but is an industrial strength glue. It’s not as brittle/rigid.

@@HanLifts you are very welcome. I have had to do this quite a bit! I actually have a new pair of rom 2s (I wear size 15 and can still find new pairs for around $200 lol) that I am doing this too now. It’s stronger than the glue they used to build the shoe in my experience. Same for adidas shoes.

Got a pair of Rom 2 on 12/25/20 at APS when they had a US9.5 in stock for a few hours. After a few months of break-in... It's a toss up between my Adipower 1 and these. Why not just get Anta? They're supposed to be very similar to the R2's.

By far and large my favorite! Looks great, feels great, built like a tank! I actually thought about getting a new pair last week just to have an extra one for the day my current ones get old... Probably in 10y time haha! They are so great!

I’m obviously biased BUT at the end of the day it is personal preference! There’s only a slight difference in heel height which you may or may not notice!

Ooh I love the black ones. They do stay relatively white. Obviously, they get dirtier than other ones but as long as you take care of them it’s no more than usual!

I have two pairs of Romaleos, bought them back in 2015 when they already became more rare but I was still able to get them for the normal price. And I'm glad to, I still use them to this day! I really hate what Nike has done with Romaleos 3 and up.

I wouldn’t say they are bad. Lots of people have them and love them. Personally, I’m not a massive fan. Just not as rigid, sturdy or supportive but still do the job!

3 & 4 was a giant mistake. 2 was fine. No need to update. Nike realized the 2s were overbuilt and no repeat buyers of a shoe that lasts so long. 😂 Adidas made the same mistake and adipower 2 is a huge fail.
