Utrogestan is a progesterone only HRT that helps manage the symptoms of HRT. Here we have Dr Daniel Atkinson, the Clinical Lead at Treated, to tell us about it.
Utrogestan is a natural HRT called micronised progesterone and is suitable for menopausal women who haven’t had a hysterectomy (womb removed). If you’ve had a hysterectomy, you only need to take oestrogen HRT. Utrogestan is usually taken to increase hormone levels of progesterone, which have decreased over time to help manage menopausal symptoms. It also sheds the womb lining, which is built up by oestrogen. It comes as a capsule or vaginal tablet and can be taken every single day, or just during the last 12-15 days.
