All good and necessary advice. I have been riding for a year now, (am 60 years old) ... I taught myself, having never seen an euc in real life when I purchased a used MCM5V2 and began trying to learn. I have never ridden skis (water or snow), snowboard, surfboard, skateboard or other balance sports... only bicycle and motorcycle, so I beat up the MCM5 trying to learn how to ride. I now have still got the MCM5 but also now have a Nikola plus and a Sherman... so, caution... EUCs are very addictive haha. My advice to someone wanting to learn to ride... is to buy a used, beat up (cheap) wheel of any make... inmotion V5f -V8f... Kingsong 14s -16s... Gotway MCM5v2.... don't worry if they have a crack or scratches... some duct tape will hold it together... just make sure it is working, get the seller to demonstrate it riding (or that it balances forward and back correctly) that the tyre has some tread and you get the correct charger. Getting a used wheel is best because it is cheap (don't pay more than half new price if the wheel is not in VERY good condition). You want a used wheel NOT in beautiful condition (to look at) because you will drop it. You will scratch it and beat it up, so there is no value in buying a beautiful looking used wheel for a high price... you may as well buy new. If you can get a cover for your new, second hand wheel, ithe cover will help reduce damage you inflict on it and keep the bits from falling off it. I say to buy used because, the minute you can actually ride it... in fact, the SECOND you can ride 50 meters on this wheel... you have outgrown it. So, the least money you spend on your first wheel, the less you lose. Once you can ride your beat up used first wheel... then, you can try other people's wheels and only THEN... will you know what wheel will suit you. I don't care what fancy new $5000 EUCs are on the market and you think you want/need... buy a beat up junker to learn... then buy the nice new wheel which you won't beat up trying to learn. I kept my learner/junker (MCM5) so I can learn tricks/backwards etc and not beat up my Nik and Sherman... plus I teach others to ride the MCM5

This is GREAT advice, I bought my 1st wheel from a Co-worker though and in order not to beat it up, I learned on GRASS !! That’s the best way not to have really bad scratches and not I’m great …

One of the BEST ways to learn without Severely damaging your wheel is to Learn on GRASS !! You can now learn with comfort knowing you won’t hurt yourself and your new wheel, follow KZbin learning guides and your grand, I got very Lucky and bought my 1st Wheel from a Co-worker (Gotway Nokida Plus) he’s only had it for a year and I bought it for more than half the price… I’m here almost 3 weeks in and looking like I’ve been riding for years LOL. Once I master riding backwards and riding with a seat, I will go for my own Brand New wheel …

I think you forgot that you need a good pair of goggles or safety glasses. Having a large bug or rock hit your eye going 25kph or higher makes it hard to keep riding without falling. GREAT VIDEO WITH GOOD TIPS (SUBSCRIBED)

Oh man this is exactly the kind of video I wanted to make or see on KZbin. It's nearly perfect. You showed the big boys in the beginning and the trusted V8 all throughout. I too started on a V8 3.5 years ago, I was 16. I actually got working just to buy it (1000€ back then). I rode it for 6 months, self taught everything. 6h straight in one go just to ride for 10m. Then 6h more the next day for braking, turning, accelerating properly and mounting. After that, off-road and slow riding where targeted. After these 6 months and 3300km, the police stopped me and there was an accusation(Germany sucks) After that, no more riding. Which induced the worst time of my life so far, because the wheel gave me incredible freedom at the time. Anyway, luckily I could still ride 4 times a year when I visited my dad In a hilly area, mostly off-road. Now I'm 20, and it's still miserable. My V8 has a dead battery for 3 months now, 7754km total, but very aggressive off-road riding mostly. Now I preorderd an S20, I've outgrew my V8 for 2 years now. One recommendation for any V8 rider's: get the soft shell cover for it. It's 40€, and boi does it make the wheel more comfortable. Also about safety gear: I never used any. I can run easily 33kmh, and the V8 does only 28ish with my weight and size(1.92m). So I outran it basically always, except off-road when slipped sideways. In that case, yea I got some little wounds on my knees. Obviously for the upcoming S20, I'll definitely go full gear no question.

Nice job! Cut out due to malfunction is my biggest fear by far, but.. there’s not much we can do to prevent that except inspect the board and wiring periodically and after crashes.

Advice I've heard from electric engineers (I forgot the podcast but it was good stuff) is to often fully charge / cell balance / allow time for the last few %, a huge positive impact on battery health. I think it was as much as possible, rather than 1 in every 5/10 charges. Great video!

I got a good deal on a V8S and I’m happy that was my first wheel. I have subsequently bought an EXN, but I still use the V8S for practical kinds of rides. It’s much more pleasant to bring into stores or on a train. If it’s a short ride to do a practical task, the faster speed of the EXN is not enough to make it preferable. It’s only a mile and a half to the store, getting there a minute or two faster is quickly overcome by the worse trolley experience or putting it in a shopping cart being much harder. The smaller wheels fall more into my idealized view of what PEVs can be, easily go short distances and get on public transit or shop.

Respect the limitations of the wheel and respect your own limitations. Learn with a small weak wheel. And you will respect the limitations and carry that over to larger wheels. You cannot predict the wind. Be careful at high speeds. Be aware of your environment and always assume you're invisible. This is already implied in the video. Get propper shoes which do not hurt your feet. With the wrong shoes my feet will hurt within minutes. Get insoles with support. Protect your ankles. There are lots of bones in your ankles. With some helmets you cannot hear the beeps that well. There is no wheel which can do everything. Respect the limitations of a wheel and you won't be surprised.

I love the practical portable properties of an euc, but with an euc i see one should dress in body armor which ends practical portability. I use a pev for commuting, which means not arriving like batman. A helmet and gloves/wrist guards is doable. I’m still considering an euc, but it should be with newer technologies such as smart motherboards, smart battery management, ip rating, approx 25mph, below 70 lbs (stairs in my home) and finally i prefer a smaller 16” wheel that has clean housing (luggage rather than half a sportbike which would create displeased frowns by store owners). I would love some suspension to save my knees but maybe i’m asking too much.

I cant wait until I can get an EUC. Im going for the buy the wheel you want first. I was gonna spend $460 on a v5f but I decided not to. Im gonna save up for a v12hs. I will never want to go faster than 40mph and my town/city isn't nearly big enough to run through the battery. My commute is about 3 miles and everywhere else is within another 3 to 4 miles so its more than enough to get me anywhere in town and fast enough to satisfy my need for speed. I just hope I can get it before the winter season starts, otherwise I might have to wait until next year :(

I once hit a pothole, I didn't see coming and my body landed further ahead of foot placement...causing the wheel to speed up and not able to stop!!! I bailed, backwards and hit my tailbone hard....jump pads would have prevented that...

Btw you are in Belgium. You can only go 25 km/h and only on a wheel that is technically built with a top speed of 25. That means most wheels are illegal. Except the old Ninebots, they go 24 kmh max.
@MarcelSamyn

Yeah it sucks-especially knowing that a strong motor is a safety feature (not just something to go faster). I've never been stopped luckily, probably because I do ride responsibly, have all the safety gear etc. People on bikes (especially speed pedelecs) don't want to brake so they get people in dangerous situations. I don't care about stopping and losing 10 seconds of my trip.

EUCs are very cool and amazing things. Saying they can replace cars is a bit much though, I can't take kids to school on an euc, for example. Also you get wet if it is raining. Maybe replace a motorbike with an EUC but they just are not able to carry 4 people and their luggage. It's just plainly untrue to say they can replace a car and that obvious fact makes the rest of what you say questionable at best. Just saying. Good job with video otherwise. Thanks.

@@Randyphx yeah... and thinking about running also burns more calories, get real and come back to earth. Proper walk can burn more calories than run. Standing and riding takes more energy than walking, what a bullshit, you know nothing about human body.

Please keep it to 40 km/h, an euc is a class 3 ebike, throttle without peddling... Anymore and you are putting your safety at great risk...and completely illegal on the road... You not only fall, you can get hit by vehicles... Most likely are turning vehicles going into and out of parking lots or corners....

Euc's are still a novelty product that is not made to any standard. No standard for battery safety. No standard for vehicle safety. It's all still experimental and even the newest models have serious flaws. I love euc's but I will advise against using them unless you are so addicted you can't help yourself. They can still cut out which is very risky. It happens with the newest models. The Begode T4, Extreme, the V12 cutouts aren't also that long ago. Then there is aging. When they get old sooner or later a component will fail. That will result in a cutout. I love euc's, been riding for a year now. But be realistic. It's also nog 'good' for the environment. Just less bad then cars. A normal bicycle lasts much longer and uses less chemicals etc and has a functionality that comes close to euc.
I made a huge mistake. Don't buy a Veteran Sherman as your first EUC.
