Thank you for clicking in to this video! I give about a minute-long warning in the video, but to be absolutely clear: I start spoiling some Yakuza games rotten at 5:30. I do this for those who just want to jump right in with this game and don't want to, or don't have the time to catch up with the series. That is not something I recommend! BUT, for those who want to, I give some relevant spoilers from Yakuza 5, Yakuza 6, and Yakuza: Like A Dragon. So again, be warned, if you don't want that, DON'T watch past 5:30!

Love how you gave the series context and didn't just spill out the games plots. I've only played 1, 2, and 0. So I'm glad I have an understanding going into Gaiden, but room to go back and still enjoy the other games if I want to.

That was my goal! There's soooooo much plot I didn't even hint at with those games, so while taking this route still spoils some ultimate resolutions there's still so many twists and turns along the way to enjoy that anyone going back can still get something out of it.

Kinda late, but thank you! I loved Like A Dragon (and also Judgement and Lost Judgement) but hadn't really played much of the Yakuza games. Now starting LAD:AMWAN I'm thankful for the info you have given - it clears some stuff up for me, and now I'm excited for this lil mini game, and ultimately LAD: Infinite Wealth coming very soon!!! Yakuza 6 had so much potential and ruined it. Playing Gaiden - The Man Who Erased His Name so far it's a really good game.

i played from 0 to 4 in 2021, and i genuinely loved the games. y0 has a special place in my heart in fact. but i kind of got burnout after y4. i am currently playing LAD and god this video came off very very handy! i knew lot of the stuff epxlained already, but it puts into perspective others i had not considered. i hope his new "joryu" game will be good, i miss the old man. and i am very curious on nishitani iii. thanks again for this great video dude!

I'm glad it helped! I made the spoiler section figuring most people wouldn't want or need it, so knowing it's helped at least one person makes me feel good about doing it. I'm quite curious about Nishitani III as well. The live translation from Summit left me unsure if he's a blood relative or if the name really is just a title. Can't wait to find out.

Jumping from Kiwami 2 to Gaiden just to spite hardcore fans. In all seriousness I just can’t get myself to go backwards in terms of the series’ combat by playing 3, 4, and 5 after playing 0 through Kiwami 2.

I played Like a Dragon and plan to get into the series from this new start. But, since Infinite Wealth has Kiryu prominently, I thought I’d at least get some context and play Gaiden so that I can get some better perspective. Thanks for the quick plot catchup.

Can't imagine having this as a first Yakuza game... would be like starting with Sonic Frontiers or something in my mind lol (also I have just finished Kenzan like 20 minutes ago and still I refuse to undertake a whole playthrough of Dead Souls like you did)

Time restraints, most likely. As a newish player to the series I played 0, Kiwami 1 and 2, then 6, which were all fun, but I ain't trudging through 3,4 and 5. They are essentially PS2 games with a lick of paint. Would rather be doing something else.

@@sonictelephone1526 That's a very prejudiced way of looking at things that I don't know how you came to adopt. 3,4,5 are great and I do not regret playing them. Like 5 is literally the same engine that was used for 0 and Kiwami 1. While 3 & 4 have this rigidness and snapiness to the combat that I miss after all the recent Dragon engine physics jank and swimmy movement. But you do you of course.

I played the yakuza series it took me 2 years I think want from 0 to 6 it was worth it I love this series ❤

Also I have weird opinions on where to start in the series. Like, I would think LAD is a good starting point only if you go all the way back to 0 and play through in order after treating them all as prologue. Also starting at 0, skipping 3 and 4, playing 6 an LAD then coming back to play them as missing chapters, I have weird reasons as to why, I'm not saying 4 is bad, I am saying 3 is a slog but not that it's worth skipping entirely, just.. like I said it's complicated lol. Another way I would say is to play 1 and 2, then 0, 3-6 then 7, in all cases I think people should do dead souls and ishin after, judgment if you want to and I dunno. Even thinking about it has me questioning if that's actually the way I thought I'd recommend playing them. I think it depends on the player and what they enjoy

Personally I think it’s a question that leads to a lot of overthinking. There’s no perfect place so whatever gets less friction to get new people in is what matters, so case by case I recommend different people different games. I started with 4 back when it was the most recent and it only made me curious to check out the others. With MGS I jumped in with 4, which is usually agreed on to be the worst entry point but it only made me more curious to play the series when I finished it.
