I am 6' 4" and 25 years old. I have been lifting off and on for 8 years and up until the last year was never able to squat weight as my knees hurt so bad. That pain went away this last year (unknown why) and I have been building my squat strength. This video was an amazing watch and really appreciate the information you provide. I learned a lot

I’m only 6’1 but squatting has always been difficult for me to reach good depth without hurting my lower back. I tried squatting with a much wider stand and could get my ass to the ground but at the cost of tweaking my groin. This video was amazingly helpful, I thought I had a hip mobility issue but I believe it is just my long femurs
@kevinfernandes18822 жыл бұрын
you do a wide stance similar to a sumo stance and you squat. If your lower back is hurting its too much weight all at once. start light and then get heavier as you go.

Eugene, you rock. I've watched a bunch of your videos lately and this was did my head in. Absolutely the best videos on youtube about lifting. Thank you for restoring my faith, I've grown so sick of all the gimmicks and tricks these so called trainers put in their videos and NOT telling people that there is no easy or fast way to get yourself in shape. Words like "fastest", "best" or "easiest" should be banned from thumbnails. Love your stuff, dude.

+1, really curious about what changes depending on bodytypes in the deadlift especially as people (even eugene himself in one of his latest videos about the dl) keep saying your shoulder should be over (or slightly in front of) the bar at the starting position. I mean it can't be that easy, this has to vary a lot from person to person esp. considering how crazy squatform differs for different people. Why should that be different when it comes to the deadlift?

Eugene. You killed it! I’d been scratching my head on why I keep wanting to fall backwards. I’d been to physio and they showed my the classic knee to wall and pointed at my not so great ankle mobility. But never did they point out my anatomical disadvantage, having a long femur. It makes so much sense from a physics standpoint. Thanks for this!

this video explained the issue i was having so well, for years i thought it was my ankle mobility but i could always do that movement as long as i was holding onto something. I have always elevated my heels but hated the fact that i cant just walk up to a squat rack and do my lift. Im 5"9 so im not the tallest but my long femur and short torso is why i cant get that natural depth. I started using machines like the hack squat instead of barbell squats and have already seen improvements. Thankyou!!

I've started hitting the gym recently (like about three months or so) and, like most people, I've been doing the sort of 'big four' as I like to call them as my 'main exercises' for each session (bench, squat, deadlift and overhead press). However, I've never really felt anything in my quads/hamstrings with squat and deadlift, just in my lower back. I've been watching your videos for a while now, and coach's well explained videoes with clear knowledge of our bodies' biomechanics once again has me convinced that this will solve my problem. Really eager to hit the gym tomorrow and try out some of the leg machines that I've avoided in favour of some of the more popular workouts! Thanks a lot, coach Eugene!

Finally, it all makes sense. Ive been having a difficult time with legs. Moved to Machines for the most part. Maybe squat every other week. Everyone keeps telling me I have to squat, It took me Elevating my feet taking a little bit wider stance. But the overall load on the muscles I want just dont get enough volume or load. The squat sucks for me. I still do it, but doing it every day is not going to change my problems. I still squat though, just not much. Deadlifts on the other hand, that guy and I are built the same. And I willing to bet his deadlift is amazing. And probably his best. Best lift in terms of form, likeability and progression. This is an amazing video and it answered questions I needed to know. I've worked hard on hip and ankle mobility because I've struggled with this in a mobility setting (not weight lifting). Ive been exploring this topic recently and have always had to lean forward to not lose my center of gravity, even though I’m very short. Other videos explained that its ok to lean forward thats just biomechanics. I like how you said that it’s also ok but it will work lower back more than quads (which I definitely feel lower back more). Its interesting how somebody who’s more interested in training the movement pattern/functionality may choose to do it with no heel elevation but someone training for quad strength would use heel elevation. Thank you!

This video is incredible. There's nothing groundbreaking but the way it is put together and explained is excellent. I've always struggled with squats. I always felt it in my lower back. I started taking a wide stance, feet as wide as this guy in the video, and was able to hit 180kg for a double. What's even more interesting is that around 5:30 you state the stress moves to ligaments and groin. Guess what happened to me eventually? Inguinal (groin) hernia. Subbed.

I was forcing myself to do squats and smith squats and always trying to add weight so I can see results but I gained nothing all I felt was my glutes getting bigger lol. I found this video by watching your recent 5 mistakes about legs training … now all I do is leg ext leg press body weight sissy squat for my quads unfortunately there is no hack or pendulum machines in my gym. Anyway your video is well explained excellent work

This is eye opening. Always wondered why I couldn't narrow squat like some friends of mine who are of similar height. My ankle and hip mobility seem fine and I can reach an ass to grass position just like this gentleman but at an imbalance. Elevated heels help but it always bothered me that I couldn't go narrow since I feel like my lower back is always feeling the most fatigued after squatting. Will definitely see if bone length plays a factor.
