I believe Strange could very well be the anchor being for ths 616. For one, he seems to be a rare and better version of Strange that we've seen across the multiverse. Secondly, the quote "he's meant to be the best of us." Spider-Man may have been considered at some point, or maybe even a red herring, because Strange makes much more sense for the current MCU.

My biggest takeaway from this: Benedict Cumberbatch already knows the plot for Secret Wars. They worked double time to keep the Avengers 3 and 4 scripts secret, even within the cast, and those plots still leaked. That tells me these next two will probably be leaked sooner rather than later.

I could see a scenario where Doom strikes a deal with Dormamu to have his daughter Clea take Strange out of the picture to increase Doom’s chances of success. Doom nerfs Strange early in the film and sends him on an adventure leading to Time Runs Out where he puts together the Midnight Sons and them returning for Secret Wars

The fact that the Russo's are rewritting the movies its very possible that he didnt know if he was or wasnt. and to not disappoint anyone he just said he wasnt because he wasnt sure. I thinks its less disappointing to say youre not in something then youre in it, than to say you ARE in something and then not be in it. Hell, people get mad when a scene from a commercial isnt in the actual movie.

Of Strange wasn’t in Doomsday, the tone would be completely different. A major avenger currently alive missing in an Avenger movie definitely would feel different.

Yeah was wondering how long ago that interview had taken place before it was released. A week before there was a report about the Russo's scraping the old script and starting from scratch, then Cumberbatch's interview when he said he wasn't gonna be in Doomsday, which wouldn't make sense if he wasn't in it, at least for a brief expositional cameo somehow. Now that it's pretty much confirmed he is in it most theories make sense again.

Nightmare seems to be the best villain for DS3, the whole collapsing multiverse could cause a lot of fear and thus Nightmares as people remember echos of other lives (and deaths) as the new world consolidates. Or if they really want to go for it, Mojo! He’s a character related to the X-men (thus phase 7) and even though he can be played for laughs, he is insane and powerful a bad combination. Plus it was established that his very presence on Earth will cause things to start dying unless he uses his power to counter the effect. They could do some great things with the Mojo, Spiral and Longshot story (yes, Strange was part of that original comic mini series, check it out if you can)

It's not surprising that he wouldn't know. Marvel tells his agent what days he's booked for but he doesn't necessarily know what movie it's for. They may send him pages but not the whole script for a movie where he has a supporting role, especially if he's only doing a scene or two.

I'm actually thinking he is still sidelined for the main story and he's only in it to give an explainer on what he and Cleo did in Dark Dimension. That could be why he didn't think he was in it. Maybe he thought Dr S 3 was going to come out before Secret Wars to wrap up the post-credit scene in Dr S 2. Since that isn't happening now, that part of his story is going in Doomsday. But this just makes even MORE story creamed into this movie! I don't know how the Russo's are gonna make it all fit in 2-3 hrs! Regardless, I can't wait!
