This is why he is underrated: he led the nhl in 5 on 5 goals AND assists, and averages 1.35 points per game, which is tied with Nathan Mackinnon. However everyone is like "Mackinnon is so good he is the mvp all that jazz" but nothing for malkin. Its ridiculous And for the record, malkin was on pace to get 110 points this season. That is one of the top in the nhl but he wouldn't even be recognized for top 10 And at that, he missed 14 games this season. He was actually one of the top 5 players this season

I loved phil the thrill in the burgh, but we all knew that genos staying !! Lol no one had any doubt about that !! 😆😆 Genos most likely gonna be a pens lifer, and the 3rd greatest pens player ever !! I mean, i think hell b close to 1500 pts by its all said and done, or above !! Also, just look at him !! 74 pts in 55 gms this season, if we didnt have lost the remanding 12 gms he would have definatley had at least 88 pts and amuch better season !! Hope him and sid can get one more cup to solidify their already hof careers !! But if not still a top 15 all time player and maybe top 10 by thee end !! But yea, underrated is the best title, if sid wasnt here, glad he is tho, geno would have made a very compliable captian !! #71

When people think of the greatest Russian player, of course, they will say it's Ovechkin or Fedorov.....a few may even say it's Datsyuk. But if you really look at the numbers and watch his career, Malkin could easily be argued as the greatest Russian player ever. He's certainly has/had the skill to be, but unfortunately injuries and playing with Crosby give writers and fans the fuel needed to discredit him. His points are not and have never been b/c of playing with Crosby; he would've been just as productive (possibly more) if he'd gone elsewhere. Think of it this way: if he had left Pittsburgh to be the face of his own team, where he could be the top line center and be given linemates like that most other top lines receive....his goals&assists would've been much more even. However, he would've never been to 4 finals and won 3 cups. Plus, he would have gotten all the shine that a team's franchise player deserves. When you look at the attention and respect that players like McDavid, Matthews, Crosby, etc. get in the media, that is what he would've and should've been seen as. Staying in Pittsburgh and playing second-fiddle to Crosby was incredibly selfless and allowed him to help create the greatest and most successful hockey club of the last 15 years. But even with that sacrifice and all the injuries his total point production is 3rd all-time for Russian players and he has the best PPG percentage of all Russians!

Malkin has always been my favorite. He is also humble made decisions in his career to be loyal to the pens. He knew he be shadowed by Crobsy. He will end up in the NHL top 100. He has hit many milestones.

Malkin's true greatness is his humility. Not once did he ever complain about wearing the 'A' throughout his career when he easily would have had the 'C' if he were on another team. And that A is so poignant because it not only represents his 'assistant captain' title but also his ownership of the 'assist' king title and again, that speaks to his humility. He is the least selfish player I have ever seen. He's all about the team.

If you're referring to his absence during training camp, sources close to the Penguins are speculating that it's a minor injury. He was on the ice before practice today, so hopefully he's in the process of fully recovering before the qualifying round begins!
