This happened to me too. My son's name was on the deed of the house because of medical bills. I paid property taxes, insurance and maintenance. I even came up with almost $5000 to save the place from a sheriffs sale for past taxes initially upon getting the property. I should have walked away and let the county take it for taxes. Then I wouldn't have known the despair of being betrayed by my son. He served me with eviction papers a couple of years ago after I had lived there for over 10 years. The home had been in the family for almost 100 years! I don't talk to him anymore. He got married and wanted the house to sell for a down payment on a McMansion. . We had a verbal agreement too. I trusted him to honor my request to wait until I was dead to claim the house and he was supposed to divide it between the other 2 kids. Shameful!

Something missing in many of these stories. They moved into his aunt's home to help care for his mother and aunt. Mention of paying a few repairs over several years but no mention of paying rent or monthly bills. If his mother was truly a caretaker for his aunt for 20+ years and he and his wife for several more, she would have left them something-like the house. Why didn't the cousin give them 4 extra months? I'd bet they refused to pay even a minimal rent. When my sister, her husband and their 2 dogs just moved back to NY after failing in business, I offered them the rental apt in the house I just bought at 1/2 rent-for a month or 2 (all utilities included) while they looked for a place. She knew I needed the rent money to make the mortgage as I was going to graduate school and had limited hours to work. Immediately she "needed" the premium cable tv and internet package at $125 a month because only trailer trash lives like that (meaning without maximum tv channels). She argued it would be good for me since I could use it too. I reminded her I worked and studied nearly 24/7 so no opportunity for me to watch $125 worth of tv. Eventually I agreed to pay for 2 months of it but she had to pay installation. Only stipulation was she was to do nothing to the apt without asking me. I figured I could get by on $275 for all utilities for a month or two until I got the $800 going rate. 3 weeks later I came home to find she had plastered 1980s wallpaper all over the 1500sq ft apt to "help me". She got nasty and said "You should be paying me for this. I am helping you!" Told her if she ever did anything to my home again without asking as she agreed, I'd throw her out on the spot. It went into over a year of excuses of why she wouldn't look for an apt while she told everyone she was taking care of me and how I needed so much help. She refused ot look at the utility bills to see how I made $20 off rent if I was lucky. Meanwhile she spent money like it was water. Never bought me a single birthday or Christmas present or even a card. I was so financially devastated by funding her I told her and her husband in advance that I was sorry but I couldn't afford Christmas presents. Her husband was nice. She said nothing. As usual she got me nothing for Christmas and I felt relieved as I'd only been able to scrape up little token gifts. For my bf I was able to spend a whopping $10 on a gift. After Christmas dinner my sister followed me up to my half of the house, stormed into my room and told me "You should have given ME that present!" Responded "How do you imagine that? YOU got me NOTHING!" She gave me more garbage of how I owed her and she was helping me. Told her she had 30 days to find a place. She cried to the family and anyone who would listen that I was evicting her after she suffered supporting me in the dump no one else would live in. (Nice neighborhood, off street parking, 1500sqft apt, new bathroom, storage in half the garage, washer/dryer, full wall brick fireplace, etc. I did all outside maintenance.) When she finally moved she left 80% of her junk behind for me to clean up. She laughed and said "take it out of my deposit". (There was no deposit of course.) To this day she insists she took care of me and she helped me tgo anyone who will listen. Not one single thank you ever. She did things like leave the oven on all weekend with the door ajar when they went away. Bought a 3rd puppy without asking me and more. She even argued "you have money!" which I didn't (single person at 24yrs old who bought their first home, self supporting and going to uni has no money.) I see her in so many of these interviews where people talk about how their terrible family wouldn't continue supporting them

They seem like genuine folks to me...it's not easy to guage the whole truth, when we can't see the bigger picture. When apartment build got sold, lost my job I became homeless and lived out of my car from 2019 may to March 2020 and it was miserable. Took whatever job I could find to stay with some kind of money. From scrubbing toilets for $9/hr and pushing wheelchairs at the airport for $7/hr. Only person that reached out to me during that time was my older brother. Didn’t hear from my mom until 2 months after I finally got back on my feet into an apartment, better job, moved to a new state. That time I spent homeless even tho it was miserable, it gave me a new appreciation for the little things in life and really let me know who was in my corner still

I actually met a formerly homeless man once on these Invis People video comments who I tried help find work. Part of what he told me is they went to a far-away state to "help take care" of relatives until the relatives evicted him (oh, and now he's facing bankruptcy). He caught an attitude with me- perhaps because I would not do free legal work for him or because I did not find him a job in 4 months time, perhaps) so he stopped talking to me & "blocked me" on social media. Not sure what triggered him but he did seem to become obsessed with the fact I am a lawyer & how he could take advantage of my line of work.

Right I need to hear the so called evil cousin of theirs side of the story.A lot of holes in the story. They probably did try to cook up a scheme to stay at aunties house and take over the house. But the cousin name was already on the deed. That what wrong with people you should've saved all that money you wasn't paying in rent. So just in case the worst happen you have a backup plan. But they got comfortable and felt safe. Every one should have a backup plan. They too old not to have one.

Agreed. If they were there to help, they would have been prepared to move when the aunt died but they weren't and, instead, are acting like victims. I do think that the first cousin should have looked out for his aunt who took care of his mother and maybe he did by letting her stay in the house until she died too. But after she was gone, the first cousin didn't owe the man in this video anything. He was probably ready to wrap up his mother's affairs and sell the house which makes sense. It sounds like he gave this couple a little time before evicting them but they were expecting to stay longer.

I'm sure there's two sides to every story. And I hope them the best as they get on their feet. My take-away: Don't rely on verbal agreements. Document everything: your past payments, your actions toward the completion of a deal. Finally, ask yourself how you compromise your own position when you act out of generosity. My guess is he had a nice, cheap apartment in San Francisco. And he won't be able to get back into the housing market at the same price point.

Don't rely on others to house you, even your own relatives, no matter how much help, repairs, or upgrades you've contributed to a household. Pay for your own housing, or better yet, save up and buy your own house. The Cousin is named as an owner of the House, and a verbal agreement is worthless if he denies every word you say - you should have had a written contract signed between all parties. Good lessons learned.

Yes, in a perfect World...that's good advice....most people have 20/20 vision in hindsight! But may I suggest, that by using the word SHOULD in that way...it comes across as being very scolding and acting superior. Sometimes life just hits snags. And sometimes caring people are too trusting and gullible, through ignorance..and those types of people can become prey for Narcissists.

@@jo-annahicks3324 _"But may I suggest, that by using the word SHOULD in that way...it comes across as being very scolding and acting superior."_ Let's see what other options there are besides "SHOULD"... you COULD have had a written contract signed between all parties? you MIGHT want to have had a written contract signed between all parties? you OUGHT to have had a written contract signed between all parties? I don't think it makes much difference whether "SHOULD" is used or it's equivalent synonym. They all sound scolding or projected from someone superior depending on the understanding, humbleness, or mood of one's unique perspective. Perhaps some people who are stubborn or complacent need scolding or someone superior to get them to do what they need to do in order to protect themselves emotionally and legally.

I've heard this story before. A family member moves to take care of a relative. Usually it's a family member who is not like the most financially secure but they're the ones who are willing to help. Then the family member dies and the legab heir puts them out. This might be quite common. I'm thinking that if you have to take care of a family member and they can't come stay in your home Or you can't afford to have them come stay with you then you should not do it. let the other family members who are local do it because you will be assed out if they pass away. Their immediate family will never let you stay in the deceased relative house. They will never share anything with you and they will never compensate you for what you did. For some reason that's just how it is.

"We all make bad choices. Homelessness shouldn't be a punishment for bad choices." True, Mark. This couple is a very respectful, professional mannered couple. Seems like his cousin just didn't want him there. It's one thing to want your space, but why push your own cousin into homelessness to get it? His cousin is mean. I bet the guy in the video will remember that, if he and his cousin are still around in 20 years, and the cousin winds up needing the care that his mother, and the cousin's mother needed. I agree with him on the memorabilia part, and the living long part. And, the mega lotto part would be nice, too.

This is why you ALWAYS GET THINGS IN WRITING!!!! Family sometimes ain’t 💩! And another thing I caught was the that that this gentleman’s mother took care of the wicked cousin’s mother-her sister. Why didn’t he take care of his own mother? That says a lot about him. 🤨

This is more of the reason why you shouldn't help so called family you'll only end up hurting yourself The worst part is when you help them when they are down and out with needing a helping hand but when it's your turn to need a helping hand you get treated like a smashed up bug on the ground that no one even sees getting stepped on Invisible people is exactly what it's called that's why your name invisible people is so accurate I started experiencing homelessness at 14 it's hurtful an emotionally draining I love to call the homeless my family because I'm them and they are me we are one *God even see's us as one and not invisible people* God will help them just like he helped me

I'm Disabled, a Veteran, and have been homeless for two years. I'm not a drug addict, just lost my housing two years ago when the Apartment Complex I was living at was sold to a buyer in Toronto, who promptly notified the tenants living with Section 8 or VASH assistance was given the option to move out or pay full market value rent. I found while looking for a place to move to, that most low income housing was eliminated in this same fashion by greedy investors. I bought an old van on payments and was forced to start living in it. I did so for a year and was offered a tiny fiberglass trailer on payments. I found that the person I bought it from had mislead me on a clear title, and have had difficulty getting it registered and legal to tow. I have been stranded at a Recreation Area, above Kingman Arizona for seven months now trying to get repairs done to my van. It is no longer safe to drive, and definitely not suitable to tow my trailer. It has been a living hell, upto 128 degrees at times this summer, now dealing with freezing cold at night and heavy winds. Every time I try to get some repairs made, something comes up. I bought a used generator which failed in a couple weeks, had to buy another one, then my emotional support dog Archie was badly bitten and required veterinary care, my air conditioning compressor failed in my Van, I cut my knuckle to the bone and ligaments on some glass discarding some trash which resulted in an Emergency Room Visit. I have been trying to get help, and have not much success. I was accepted for Rapid Rehousing through the Catholic Charities, but have searched all over Mohave County but found I cannot afford an apartment on my disability income. I am now in a panic as I was notified by the Catholic Charities Caseworker handling my information, had their computer stolen and now my personal information has been compromised. I am on a waiting list for Section 8, basically started over. I did not choose to be in this homeless situation, and have been doing my best to deal with everything I have experienced the past 2 years. I had to literally give everything I owned away when I lost my apartment EVERYTHING!, I did try and keep my many tools, but those to were lost by a "friend" who was going but keep them until I get settled, but would never respond to my calls or texts. I am absolutely sick of my life. I don't live anymore, I merely exist, and it's not much of an existence. I have not showered in nearly 8 months, and haven't bathed in over two years since losing my apartment. I have reached out to every VA organization or service center for help, but am ineligible. I served 6 years in The Air National Guard, and was honorably discharged, but still don't meet the requirements as I was on active duty for well over a year with Avionics Technical School, and was activated during Desert Storm, but could not deploy with my unit, as I was a 3 level technician straight out of school. I have no family for support, no friends, only a few people I have met while being homeless. I have had a fellow vet brings some water bottles and food items several months back, but I don't see how I can ever get out of my situation as my limited income doesn't suffice..

If you have anything sentimental like Pictures toys awards etc.....Take pictures of them and store it on a external storage like a micro sd card or usb....having a digital snapshot of something close to you on a sd card or usb before a situation like this even happens, can bring you a great peace of mind, knowing that no one can take it from you and, in some form those things never left you even if it physically has. All those memories right in your pocket. 😊

@@sup_monica3597 both my parents struggled with addiction and given millions of chances, my dad eventually got clean, my mom didn't. Ive also dealt with addiction, my family didn't give up on me, so many times I failed and I made it through. You never know when somebody's ready or not. But you shouldn't fully give up on them. Unless they're stealing from you and hurting you in some way. Even then though, don't give up, just keep distance but still be there emotionally or for emergencies. It depends on the person, if they want help and if they're ready to get help. I think it's very individual.
