I was thinking the same thing. I work in residential areas during the week and I'm always surprised at how many full-grown men I see during the day that literally just lollygag around. I am a landlord. What many tenants don’t realize is that if they don’t pay the rent, the landlord can’t pay the mortgage and property taxes. If the landlord gets foreclosed on, the bank sure isn’t going to let the tenant stay in the house. If you don’t pay the rent, you are not the only person that loses out.

I had an eviction notice put on my door on a Friday. I knew it was a mistake since I’ve never missed a payment. Although, I knew it was wrong I was so anxious the entire weekend and barely slept.My leasing office apologized “of course”! Most don't understand the process. I have been in court and heard the Judge explain to our tenants the process and when they get the 14 day warrant served by the Sheriff they ignore it thinking they have a chance to go back to court. Our Sheriff Deputy who handles my area are excellent though because they will call and go back before the final kick out day and see if they started to move and have a plan if children and pets are involved.

When Covid hit my husband was one of the first to be laid off! We both worked! When that happened I had savings just in case something like that ever happened. I made sure bills were paid rent plus utilities! And he couldn’t find work for a year! He was trying so hard bless him! But I never folded I put in overtime for him and our children! He still till this day tells me that I’m the best wife and mother in the world! I just did what I was supposed to do for my family! But I’ll take the compliment!😌 my point being he nor she has any excuse! Because at the end of the day I would have talked to the landlord and told them give me till the end of the month and I’ll have that full 2 grand, plus rent for next month!

Chances are that she probably went to her city’s free landlord-tenant counseling office and was able to just ask a few questions with an city attorney there. Some cities provide this service. If she couldn’t pay their rent, then chances are she didn’t pay the retainer fee for a lawyer to represent her and help with her specific situation. Hope she gets back on her feet.

They get attorneys through legal aid. It’s the equivalent of a public defender but for civil matters. They’re paid for by the state for people who make under a certain amount. My brother is a legal aid lawyer and does this exact type of legal work for them. This is the type of people he deals with every day. He’s only doing it for a couple more years bc if you work for them for x amount of years, all of your school loans get paid and forgiven, then he’s opening his own practice.

While a bankruptcy is going through the courts, there is a stay on an eviction. You can't be evicted while in the middle of a bankruptcy filing. The game is to keep filing bankruptcy, over and over so there will always be one in process and you cannot be put out. The landlord has to follow their tenant's case and when the bankruptcy case has been completed, they need to quickly get the judge to sign a writ of eviction. But they have to do it quickly before the tenant files another bankruptcy. Sux, but that's how that scam works.

They will be evicted and will have a hard time finding another place because the bankruptcy shows immediately on your credit. Since evictions do not show on your credit you have plenty of time to secure another place to live. It's the balance owed to the apartment that eventually shows, but doesn't always show because you still have other options to keep it off of your credit at that point. People are just uneducated and often do the wrong thing.

I hate when innocent kids have to go through this! My mother and father divorced when I was little and she struggled while trying to work, go back to school and provide for us but I am so thankful it never got to the point where we lived in a filthy home and went without and went through eviction processes. Those were nightmares to see others go through. My mother shopped at secondhand stores and even washed our clothes out by hand and hung them up or ironed them to dry but we were clean, well fed and loved and never went through this. My mother worked hard to prevent this and saved up enough money to purchase a home even. I pray for any child who has to experience getting kicked out of their home, the place where they should feel safe and secure!

15 years ago i loss my job and i got evicted I knew it was coming just didn’t know when so I moved 90% of my stuff. Just finished breakfast smoking a blunt and here comes the Marshalls with a crew of 10 people 😄. Even though I paid the debt off that eviction stays in a database for eight years. Getting laid off was a blessing in disguise. I took that opportunity to become an entrepreneur, and now I own two businesses and travel the world -temporary setback turned into a major come up. Always have multiple streams of income and never depend on the job. You’re disposable.

As a landlord, I can say, these evictions are sad and difficult. Unfortunately, they are not paying rent but the mortgage, taxes and insurance still have to get paid! Eviction takes months with no income from the property that will never get repaid b these types of tenants. That's why the background checks and credit reports are vital.

I KNEW I had paid my rent, but this happened on a Friday afternoon when I got home from work, so the leasing office was closed. I went the whole weekend knowing it was a mistake, but still anxious thinking just maybe I somehow messed up and missed a month and the apartment manager just realized. I went back 12 months and saw all the payments I made on time. When I called the leasing office Monday morning, the manager told me it was a mistake... like it wasn't a big deal. I was popping tums all weekend, and he was so nonchalant about it. All this to say, I don't know how people can just not pay rent, and then can KNOW they are being evicted and not really worry about it. Just blows my mind.

I recall being evicted with my mother multiple times during my childhood and it was the most humiliating experience. I can say it’s usually due to irresponsibility. Two abled bodied adults should be able to make anything happen! Even more so when you are a parent and there’s a child/ren involved. From personal experience..in 2015, November I didn't pay rent. December 10th they put a notice of eviction on my door because I still hadn't paid for Nov. or Dec. I went to a lawyer to file bankruptcy for the sole purpose of stopping the eviction. It stopped the eviction. They sent me documents saying to start paying a monthly amount towards the bankruptcy. So if i didn't pay by Feb 5th they were going to dismiss my bankruptcy. I wasn't working. I was broke and couldn't pay anything. They dismissed my bankruptcy. And the eviction was back into play Feb 6th. Luckily my tax refund hit right before the new eviction court date and I paid up 4months' worth of back rent. My apartment was saved. However, when my lease ended in Oct. 2016, they didn't renew my lease like in the years prior. I had to move in with aunt for two 1/2 years. Because the bankruptcy was on my credit. It wasn't until 2021 that my credit finally recovered. I had no debt, my credit was over 700 and I was approved for a mortgage loan.

I have a relative like that. She borrowed money through the whole family. Even her adult daughter jokes about her to the family. The relative literally borrowed like $500 from me only to put it in my HAND and literally ask to borrow it back😆every time she calls me I roll my eyes because you just never know. She finally chilled out only to call me recently to ask me if I wanted to purchase her $6000 furniture(not to mention she has never owned a home) (she probably bought from winnings at the Casino) for half off. I do feel bad for these people's situation because I have gone through an eviction due to loss of job for health reasons. But there is no way in hell I didn't know EXACTLY what date to have my stuff packed up to a new location where I had already signed a new lease. TRUST ME! That paperwork was first and foremost THE most important thing going on in my world which guided me to knowing exactly what day to be OUT and what day to be IN my new place so my children would not be effected. I do not understand for the life of me this element of surprise these people put forth? How do you ignore the courts paperwork and just lay around waiting for them to come put your belongings out on the street? I have three children and we've been through our share of life's ups and downs but where we were sleeping that night was never one of them. I’ve been a landlord in 2 different states and I’ll tell you it costs sometimes Thousands of dollars tons of paperwork and months of aggravation to get a non paying tenant out. Now as far as a bank repossession goes that’s also months of paperwork and legal filings so these people knew full well this was coming. I love the absolutely ridiculous look of disbelief on the faces of these people! Lazy no good cheats 99% of the time!

I've been doing work for landlords, and management companies for over 3 decades, including "make ready" and total rehabs...I try telling them to just fix it and sell it or, if it's a wreck DO NOT BUY IT...To get ahead in this world; NEVER START IN A HOLE...Some landlords get lucky, get a good tenant that pays on time and takes care of the place...They're as prevalent as honest politicians...

I appreciate you being gentle with her and asking the movers to keep her plates and food aside for her children. You were also compassionate towards her even though she had a BUM living with her and most people would give her a good tongue penalization for that alone..😂I hate it for her. Just listen to him "Oh Go get em YOUR receipt.." 🙄 Just ugh... I remember a similar situation happened when I was 26. Im embarrassed to admit it. Seeing everyone say HES GOING BACK TO HIS MAMA House is a trip for me. (Thats EXACTLY what my ex did...) I fkd up ROYALLY. That was yearssss ago so don't judge me yall... Lol

Growing up, I can remember times we had to deal with being hungry in the candlelight, but we were never outside. It’s all about priorities and I really wish we made better choices. Yes we all make mistakes and fall on hard times, but that’s also why I can remember my parents going to work at 4:30 in the morning to ensure that 1 day their kids didn’t have to…sometimes you have to fix mistakes and poor choices through sacrifice until you can come out on the other side.

My mother always used to tell me...take care of the three necessities in this society...rent/mortgage, food, utilities...in that order BEFORE yours WANTS...Basis money management...Peace and blessings...I pray for you EVERYDAY brother...This is not an easy job and evictions are now getting more challenging and violent...May God Christ keep His arms of protection around you...

What a terrible situation but the eviction guy is as kind as he can be in that situation. Very professional.
