Best remake? Even if we are talking about horror movies, there are more and better ones out there: The Thing, the Fly, The Blob, Dawn Of The Dead, Invasion Of The Body Snatchers, etc..

with the exception of the blob which i havent seen, all the remakes you mentioned fall into the same category that evil dead 2013 falls into. their re-imaginings of the originals. some scenes or plot devices may be the same, but they all involve different characters in similar situations. new dawn of the dead is nothing like original dawn of the dead, but basic premise is the same. the fly is completely different from original fly, but a simliar situation is presented of a guy transforming into a fly. and the thing? that wasnt even a remake. if you watch that its a prequel to the events of the original film. not a remake at all.

This is actually one of my favorite horror movies along with Sinister. It wasn't "scary" but God was it intense from beginning to end. I had a great time with it and idk why people seem to hate it so much. I've never seen the original so that might have something to do with it

The best MODERN remake in the horror genre. It is very popular to make the mistake of thinking only 80s horror is being remade when some of the greats in the 1980s were remakes or derivative of older ideas. Remakes are as old as Hollywood's second generation.

I honestly thought the original was a lot scarier, mainly because in this movie there is only 1 to 2 demons at a time before the rest of the group handles them but in the original there is a point where ash is completely alone and surrounded by demons and that just seemed terrifying.

I love the original, and I still think the first two movies are some of the best horror movies made. This movie was really good in my opinion, because it did what it said it would do. It didn't really scare me but it showed me one thing that me and all my friends thought about. What if Evil Dead was a full fledge horror movie, ad I really liked what we ended up with. Over all both the originals and the remake are really good, and highly recommend them to anyone who enjoys either a great, yet funny horror movie, or a freaking and disturbing thrill ride.

I liked the movie. It wasn't as awsome as the original, but it's a pretty solid horror movie. And you're question why someone, anyone! Would open the freaking Necronomicon, my thought it's like the ring of Sauron, it compels you to do it, without you even knowing it. It has it's own identity, and it wants to be free. That's how i look at it, Still, pretty good fun, drunk, horror movie! Plus! Check out "Cabin in the Woods", it's fvcking awesome! PS. The Necronomicon is form H.P Lovecraft! The movie made a competent effort to bring back nostalgia from the original, but my favorite part personally was Bruce Campbell's brief "Groovy" cameo at the end of the credits. If no one beats me to it and I can get Sam Raimi's blessing, I think I could do frightening justice to the franchise with another reboot in a couple decades :)

God, why are people arguing about whether the remake is better than the original? Comparing remakes is pointless to me. If it's shot for shot, I don't care how much the quality has improved, it's still the exact same movie. If it makes changes and becomes its own thing, people get pissed that they differ from the source material. Seriously? It's a NEW version of it! The way you guys argue over this makes have to ask a simple question: How much do you hate Stanley Kubrick? Seems like a random question, but it's not. Stanley Kubrick made the horror film classic The Shining. It was based on a Stephen King novel, and guess what, it changed a lot! Stephen King hates the movie, and by the logic you guys are providing, you might as well go join him. Both Kubrick's The Shining and this remake are different so it doesn't feel nearly as recycled, and can be better in certain respects. Now don't get me wrong, Stephen King's The Shining is a classic novel, and The Evil Dead original is a fantastic horror film, but seriously, treat it like its own thing!
@SWATversion3
@SWATversion3 9 жыл бұрын
You cant make a horror movie shit to shot is pretty pointless, and the movie makers realize that. Horror movies only scare you when you see the unexpected, the fear about the unknown is what makes a horror movie. If you expected the eyeballs to pop out and sling shot right into someone's mouth and you see that in this movie, it would simply not be scary or laughable. So their argument kinda seem pointless and uninformed.

So back in 2013 when this movie came out on my b day I went with my friends and we absolutely loved it! Yes it wasn't scary but as you claim it didn't set out to do that. It did have a lot of gore, and I mean A LOT but it wasn't gore porn. Rewatching it now, this movie has a lot of moments where my stomach feels twisted, I literally don't do that for any other film. But to wrap it all up I feel like this was a good throwback movie and I absolutely recommend it if you have a strong stomach. ;)

According to reports in the press, the film used 70,000 gallons of fake blood. In an interview, Fede Alvarez said they used 50,000 gallons for the final scene alone. This is compared to the 200-300 gallons used in the original. If you take the first letters of the main characters David, Eric, Mia, Olivia and Natalie, the letters spell out DEMON. This film was originally rated NC-17 until it was toned down to an R rating. According to the director, he and Sam Raimi were always willing to keep the NC-17 rating since the original film has it The film was banned in Ukraine for its extreme violence. In the opening sequence, the petrol that Harold pours over the girl was actually apple juice. When the broken necklace is found outside of the cabin, it can be seen resting in the shape of a skull, just like in the original The Evil Dead (1981 Jane Levy's first major horror role. First and only film in the Evil Dead franchise to be over 90 minutes (one and a half hours). Mia and David's last name is Allen. Another homage to the original, David and Eric's overshirts are very similar to Ash and Scott's (blue chambray and a blue, brown, and white plaid). Every girl in this film leading the cast is a scream queen. Jane Levy gained more recognition with Fede Alvarez's next film Don't Breathe (2016), Elizabeth Blackmore is best known for The Vampire Diaries (2009), and Jessica Lucas has previously appeared in The Covenant (2006), Cloverfield (2008), Amusement (2008). If you pause the opening witch burning scene "his daughter" if you pause at 2:25 over the burning possessed girls right shoulder you see the face of an angry demon in the flames. Gillian Jacobs auditioned for the role of Mia but lost to Lily Collins. Collins later dropped out and was replaced by Jane Levy. The third Evil Dead film to use the iconic chainsaw and double-barrel shotgun (a.k.a Boomstick). Mia can be seen wearing a Michigan State sweatshirt. In the original version, the main character also wears a Michigan State sweatshirt in the opening scene. This is also a homage to original series director Sam Raimi, who is from Michigan. Edit In one scene there are cards spread out on the table. The cards are laid out in the order that Cheryl reads them in the original The Evil Dead (1981).

I watched it even though I get psyched out too easily with horror movies, because I'm in the musical and *research*. I LOVED it! Yeah, acting so-so but even that felt like a throwback to the older horror movies. The blood and gore wasn't too much, probably because the movie wasn't as scary as it could have been. Definitely a great tribute. Honestly the makeup for Mia has got to be one of my favorite evil/demon/zombie/possessed looks from a movie in a while.

All the people complaining about how the original was better. Guys, stop comparing this movie (2013) to a movie that came out years ago. The old one was a classic and I loved Bruce Campbell's performance but this movie was as good as the old one, Jane Levy and all the other actors and the director (Fede Alvarez) did a good job. I went to see this movie twice and was equally entertained and disturbed both times because of the blood and gore. And by disturbed I mean I had loads of fun. This in my "opinion" was the best horror remake to ever happen in the 2,000's. Remember how they fucked up "The Fog" remake. The old one by John Carpenter was classic but the modern one was so screwed up and all over the place. At least this movie pays respect to the old one and its cast and director (Sam Raimi).

Mia had to die in 1 of 3 ways listed in order for the demonic spirit to release itself from her soul/body. Between the choices of burial, dismemberment, and burned, burial was the only way to keep her body intact which is why when he attempted to burn the house down, he stopped and said he's going to have to do it the hard way, burial by going into the basement and getting the possessed body out. He made a defibrillator so after she dies from burial and releases the demon, he can revive her.

I actually didn't care for the original. I can understand why people love it but I don't. It's a bit too much. I'm not talking about the violence, just the acting and the music was distracting away from the movie environment, as well.

Gonna sound like a douche, but I didn't like the remake. I grew up on Bruce Campbell as Ash. Bruce Campbell is a great physical actor, he does most of his own stunts. He has a lot of expression on that foot long chin. I didn't hate the movie because Ashley is now a woman, it had nothing to do with gender. I didn't think that this movie lived up to it's full potential, down to the idiotic scene where Ash is going for the chainsaw but keeps getting denied. It was little things like that, the scenes where the movie was giving a nod to the original but didn't use the nods for any real purpose in the reality of the movie. I recently binge watched the Evil Dead series, including the remake, and I have to say that the remake isn't horrible. It's not a bad movie, it does some really cool things that we don't see in movies anymore. I will even admit that the original Evil Dead series was pretty corny, campy and sometimes down right lame. Some of the jokes and things that were funny just didn't make me laugh the last time I watched the movies. Army of Darkness is still the best, though.

It's not really a remake, it's a reboot. They originally had plans to do a crossover type thing, but not too sure if thats still happening, if so, probably won't be for some time.

this wasn't as scary as your average good horror movie, but it is in fact pretty scary. And I shit my pants when I saw that demon in the trailer and I couldn't get it out of my head for at least a month. Andrew Ryan Well its an 80's film so watching it now, yes its kind of laughable but at first watch it freaked the hell out of me. That was around the mid 90's, I was around 7 or 8 when I first seen it, and I hadn't seen or become jaded due to the special effects of modern thrillers like the grudge or anything at that point so it was actually scary. If you've only recently just watched evil dead 2 its obviously not going to compete with modern thrillers, even though the new version was not scary at all. If that thing was a demon, it was the panzie ass demon all the other demons picked on. The cat was crawling on his hands and knees for the last ten minutes of the film and got defeated by a junkie who just recently died and was brought back to life. Lucifer should be disappointed in his panzie ass henchmen if that''s the best he could do.

For me i'm just disappointed they didnt have Ash,now im not saying that takes away the quality of the new film, but what alot of fans hope to expect from reboots or remakes is the "creme de la creme" per se of whatever made the previous movie work so well.Unlike alot of horror movies, Ash was a character who fought back and succeeded, without losing himself. He was a normal guy who made himself a badass to fight something completely out of his control despite it's power and psychological torment

In Evil Dead 2 the people who found Ash in the cabin thought he was a crazed murderer and in the remake Mia is a drug addict tryng to go cold turkey in the cabin with her close friends. In a way the story is the same, both of them are questionable and weak but they both progress into something different from other characters presented in the movies. So the remake kinda worked by being different but at the same time stands on the original foundations of the splatterflick it preceeds.

I think this is a shit remake honestly it was just gory and bloody and messy but most everything that was meant to be scary was so predictable that I was sitting there calling every last bit of the movie. Watch the original it's creepy and a fun gore movie. To me the effects were so fun to watch. But remember it may not be scary for some people because it's a really old movie. But heck it's a very creepy low budget movie. You will love it. It's gory and scary when it first hit the movie theatres. The new one was lame and disgusting with torture involved with it ewwww indeed.

See I saw it differently. I felt it was "the stereotypical horror" archetype intentionally. It was literally cabin in the woods, but unlike mocking the horror movie cliches it gave honor to them, tribute. That's how I perceived it anyways. I guess it also has a lot to do with the fact that my little sister is a heroin addict and so I probably felt much more of a connection to David and Mia than most people did because that relationship with my sister.

The burns disappear because she has been cleansed of the Evil. It's not really a film where realism matters, we are talking about a film where spoken words from a book invoke an evil force...not a documentary. It's funny people complain about stuff like this but forget about the chainsaw arm of the sequels, oh and the fact that his amputated arm was longer than his healthy arm the white eye lenses have been overused in horror (they were also in the exorcist)

Army of Darkness not an Evil Dead film? maybe because it's not called Evil Dead III, but it is. Ash is in it, The book of the dead is in it, and the infamous castle that the recorder read in the original (and the credits of the remake) is in it.

I'm from Southeast Asia, we can Thai horror here once a month. The Japanese movie you mentioned to my people are not 'horror' but simply gore porn :). Mia could be a co-main actress and Ash can be again the main character. Since this movie can be not a reboot or remake but as a continuation. Since Ash is now older, if successful, maybe by 2015, they could finally make two Ash VS Jason VS Freddy movie. Fans need to have those movies made while the original actors are still alive.

I am not sure if i want to see this movie because i watched all three of the original series. One of the main things that I liked about the original trilogy of evil dead movies was the one actor that all three had in common. That is of course Bruce Campbell. I just wish he had stared in more action roles because he could of been and awesome action/sarcastic guy. The man with the most awesome and many chin ever.

Night of The Living Dead 1990: That was made at a time when remakes weren't trying to be anything else but entertaining. I think it achieved that, but I personally don't think it was a 'great' remake. But at least it didn't look like every other remake made today, with the scratchy/dubstep soundtrack & green/blue wash tint colour film used. Toolbox Murders, Cat People, The Fly, The Blob, The Crazies, The Ring, House on Haunted Hill and Halloween: I ever only found 3 of those original films...

i second this mans opinion. Its not a direct remake, its a re-imagining, cause the people behind it already knew that the original could not be topped. so they made the good choice of going in a different direction, but still maintaining the core concept of Evil Dead. I love the original, and i certainly enjoyed this movie, and it can get pretty damn rough as well. Somehow they made the tree rape scene even more horrifying, that i will give them a plus for being able to do. go see it, its great.

Just saw it, wasn't all that scared though. It manages to disturb you pretty hard but other than that it's a pretty bland horror flick. I was more amazed of that dude that read the book because HE WOULD NOT FRIGGIN DIE! I mean, a stab in the heart (the location of which was apparently anywhere but on the mid-left side), getting a needle repeatetly injected under his eyeball, nails from a nailgun in his body, a knife in his hip and THEN he finally goes up in flames after becoming evil. Damn!
