Evil Energy PTFE Fuel Hose and AN fitting Review with Install on my C5 Corvette

Might as well go live in a plastic bubble if you are worried about the safety of anything anymore. If you are half your worth as a mechanic you better be able to tell when something is of decent quality no matter where it's made. Sure, I wish that everything we use here was made in the USA like it used to be and the fact that almost nothing is anymore will be the undoing of this country eventually. Just wanted to say that I loved your video. I'm doing some Evil Energy line and fittings in my 67 Corvette as I've got a crate LS376/525 and Tremec TKX 5 speed that I'm putting in it. The new gas tank is a much bigger hassle than I thought with all of the AN stuff and PTFE hose. Figuring out where to mount things in such such tight spaces is the problem. Thanks for doing such a detailed video. I love that C5 that you have! By the way, absolutely everything from the tank to the radiator had to be changed out and all is new. Endless challenges but it should be so fun once done.

Great video! I'm working on installing an FAST manifold on my LS7. I had ordered this kit but never assembled AN lines before. This helped a lot. Very well done and meticulous installation. And I have the same Cleetus shirt! haha

Thanks Toys. We did some very minor tweaks to the VE table after doing 3 runs of datalogging and man I hate to sound like a broken record but this car is driving and running better than ever. Especially the slow speed parking lot stuff. Now I just need to get off my ass and get the -8 bulkhead fitting put in the drivers side tank. Procrastinating of course since it needs to be drained lol.

Great Video. You can also use good cable loppers to cut the line, then just trim the crimped/pinched bit of PTFE off with a razor blade - no dust or metal splinters this way.

Thanks for making this video. I am currently on the fence about buying Evil Energy products off Amazon but damn with Vibrant fuel lines and fitting from Summit Racing it seems like I have to sell my first born just to get the lines, lol! I really don't want to have to go through all that measuring, cutting, installing only to have it fail/leak out like a rusty battle ship. I want the quality but I don't want to pay all that money, lol! I wish there was something out there reliable but not crazy expensive. I mean, really, how can one justify $150 bucks for an adjustable AN wrench?!

If you have not bought any Evil Energy fittings I would say just buy a few and check them out in hand. I worked on EMS helicopters for 30 years and still do part time. These fittings are very close to being just as good of quality as the aviation AN stuff I've touched in all those years. I think you'll be surprised. I agree though, to do a top shelf build the cost is insane. I'm just a hobby guy, and not a fan of B i D en onomics. With the cost of living where it's at these days I have to use the best inexpensive products I can or it will take me 5 times longer to afford a build.

How do you go about clocking the fittings properly? Due to the nature of how they tighten up the nut always starts to also turn the hose on my ptfe lines so if i am using for example a 90 degree fitting, I cannot get it clocked to the proper orientation since the hose spins when tightening down the nut to the fitting.

Any of the PTFE fittings I've used that aren't a straight fitting have an o-ring in them allowing the angled piece of the fitting to swivel freely. Not been a problem for me at all. I think on this job I used two 90s a 45 and a 120 degree and there all pointed exactly where I want them. I thought I showed that in the video but maybe I didn't.

@@PNW_Car_Mods Interesting, i've been using Vibrant brand PTFE hose and fittings and they have both "swivel" and non-swivel versions. Coincidentally i used two non-swivel 30 degree for my -10an turbo oil drain and had a hell of a time clocking them correctly.

Can you tell me why -8 or -6? I’m running a set up on my truck soon and didn’t give any consideration as to why I might run a smaller line or larger line. Of course common sense says larger lines more fuel can be obtained, but what are the limits to -6 compared to a -8. I’m currently running a lq4, 243 heads, long tubes mild cam truck intake, 450lph fuel pump. Nothing major but planned to run a forced induction set up here in the near future. Did I mess up going with a -6 I could have bought once cried once kinda deal is what I’m thinking at this point. Do I need more pump to keep up with -8 lines I guess I should have did more research on this as I am clueless but seeing your video with you swapping has got my wheels turning

All good questions and stuff to think about. If you are going to go down the boost road I would recommend 8an and an appropriate regulator. Also think of it this way. It's not so much the tubing or hose. It's the fittings. A lot of times 8an fittings are restricted down to as small as 6an due to the way the fittings are made and to keep strength. In my case I made the switch to 8an because I have a lot of fittings in the engine bay and didn't want to take a chance on any restriction. The beauty of using the EE parts is that it's budget friendly so if you already have 6 and want to go to 8 you might be out a couple hundred bucks instead of 1k. Funny enough I was able to repurpose a crap ton of my 6an stuff into my LS swapped Ford Ranger build. Which now has an LQ9 in it.

@@PNW_Car_Mods well the thing about evil is they have a plumbing kit in -6. Which should be more than plenty for around $120 I believe it was. I also ordered their fpr but after some research opted out and ordered another one already from aeromotive. I’ve yet to receive my parts from EE so far, so still waiting on them. Idk if it’s because I ordered them from EE website or not, but shipping is taking for ever. This actually brings me to the reason I found your video, because I didn’t realize I was buying from China. I assumed it was manufactured there of course but thought they had a distribution here in the states. None the less it got me into researching the company. Now I’ve seen your video about the second fpr I ordered and it’s identical to the one you replaced. So now I’m unsure about it 🤣 research is king I suppose quit tapping that proceed to check out button. Makes me wonder if the cheaper EE fpr might have been just fine for my application. Now I’ll have one laying around for the mean time. Might hook it up first and try it out do a review on it just to see if maybe they have something of quality that people thinks is trash because of the price and where it’s made. Is what it is at this point it’s all paid for and on the way or already here so I’m about to learn either way. Waiting on the EE stuff to arrive before installing parts. Holley here I come. Also heads up, check out low dollar motorsports if doing a Holley. They have some of the sensors for about a 3rd of the price as Holley ridiculous the mark up on automotive parts. I agree sometimes you get what you pay for, but I worked in a generator manufacturer company for about 3 years and we built everything from Cat to Koehler and everything in between and they all got the same quality manufacturing only difference was the paint on the out side and physical shell that covered the windings.

Never had a problem with the hose or hose ends. Zero leaks. I did have one orb to AN fitting in a fuel rail that didn't want to seal up. Kept weeping fuel on the flare. Replaced it with a new one and no further issues. I just bought another one of these kits for a LS swap Ford Ranger we're starting in on.

Yes. It is provided in the kit. Works very well. Also makes it easier to get the fitting into the ferrule and liner.

The white inner house is nonconductive, better have a fire extinguisher ready to go. I like the carbon PTFE regardless a hella lot better than bending old school steel lines

Why does non conductive warrant a fire extinguisher?

@MRBLACK947 A nonconductive hose can't ground and gasoline causes static electricity as it flows so it either will zap a pinhole or cause combust. A carbon-lined conductive ptfe hose will ground to the metal flare fittings at either end.

@@collinwilliams5420 This is very interesting. I had honestly not heard of this. I'm not convinced it would have made me change my decision regardless. After doing a bit of research and googling I see it is a topic that comes up on a few forums over the years. That being said, I did not see a single incident reported where it actually caused a fire or burned someone's car to the ground.

​@MRBLACK947 We've lost 3 cars in FD due to fuel lines not meeting our abusive standards. Keyword "abusive" two out of three burn outs from two separate teams summed up to amazon kits. Them showing the most fire damage out of the cars total loss. We don't report to a data system we just rebuild and race again. Scca won't let us use anything but metal and braided rubber which sucks because ptfe lasts way longer. I'm 100% positive for the daily corvette it's a great upgrade.
