@@whiterabbit75 Pretty much, historically there was more like one "major point" where they broke their entire langauge but yeah that's pretty much the result. Except they also on top of that forgot their own Grammar, Vocabulary and Etymology and pretty much lost most sense of "understanding" their own language (as for example how in most languages the word "Ventriloquist" consists of their own languages words for "Belly" and "Speaker" and that's just a latin/french one. The germanic ones are worse IMO because that used to be their own language but they just forgot. Like how they replaced "Trek" with "Trac" or "Pull" but also occasionaly still use Trek but only for really specific things even though you can use it for literally everything you use Trac- or Pull for. And terms regarding Ship are even worse because they are practically bad translations + a mix of multiple languages. (Example: "Starboard" is supposed to be "Steerboard" and the word "Board" is kinda supposed to be a very different Board than say the Board in "Skateboard" yet in English their spelling is identical.) This is also part of the reason why native english speakers on average kinda suck at learning other languages. Though that "inability to adapt" ironically also made it a world language. Whereas other big colonizers and traders like the VOC/Dutch generally adapted to other peoples languages. So even though the "best" native languages make it easiest to learn other languages... the "worst" languages survive. Which is not a big deal within Europe but for example for Asian Countries it's much harder to learn English because it's such a mess and it's their "first" germanic/latin language so they have nothing to go off. Hence I'm never suprised when they accidently speak perfect Dutch when trying to speak English. Because in Dutch and also in German an "A" is pretty much always pronounced the same like the "A" in Shark and so Hence a Japanese person won't Wutter or Wohter but WA-TE-R/L which is how it's pronounced in Dutch and/or German.
