Hi there was noticing on last video you where having trouble with the aluminum swelled on the bolt. I bought a 9.9 with seized tilt trim rusted solid with it on the stand i sprayed a product called loobit lube for cables. The next morning it was down and free. Loobit ate the white powder that caused the swollen seized pivot. Now i spray a day in advance. Releases studs broken in cases to. Love it on aluminum steel corrosion. Cheers themarkoo2

Hey Its me Brian again. Hoping to get down in your neck of the woods soon like I mentioned before. I just got this 1981 25 hp motor from my neighbor for 100.00. Its not starting at the moment. But I already have a 1983 johnson that does run like a champ. So I figure ill stick a little money into the 81 otherwise I got some really great replacement parts if needed. Anyhow im trying to get through the basic tests. The top plug sparks but the bottom doesnt. Wires are fine and so are the plugs because they are both new wires and plugs. Has great compression so I think I should be ok. I am thinking its the coil to the lower spark plug that bad but got more tests to try out. Anyhow as I was working on this I was thinking What would TOO do?

SOS, same ole sh*t. Process of elimination. Check all your ground wires, clean/tight contact to powerhead. Retest, still no spark, swap the coils, no spark to top plug replace the coil ! Thanks , Let me know how it goes . Stay tuned !

Cool! Never would have figured the 32CI starter would fit that 40hp.... Those old dogs are pretty rugged....Did you get the extension off the gearcase?

This so the same outboard I'm working on and I think its had the flywheel switched from an to electric to a pullstart as it wont crank with the plugs in but take them out and it's fine there no model number on the engine it's been removed but there is a mount for the starter motor so I'm guessing it's been adapted I have a video on my channel of the engine kzbin.info/www/bejne/hGrJnK2sgtudrac

Hey. With the plugs tight its going to be harder to turn due to compression in the cylinder. Also those plugs look to long and your piston may be hitting the plug. Thanks

@@THISOLDOUTBOARD1 ok but it with the pull start attached it's nearly impossible to pull once it hits that point of the rotation? Do u have a parts number for the plugs so I know wich ones to get as those were the one in it when I got it

@@mattschannel1502 well either that thing has excellent compression or you're hitting the plugs look at the plugs and see if they're bent on the ends also look in there at the Pistons and see if there's a mark on the top of the piston. I don't have a part number offhand for the plug but if you go to Marine engine. Com and look up Johnson 1975 you'll find the plugs and the correct numbers. The plugs are gapped at 30. Use Champion plugs only

Dude, I had one of those motors...I bought it brand new with the boat. From the start..the get go...I had nothing but problems with that motor. Here it was brand new...and the dealer that sold me the thing told me it was a lemon. It never ran well for very long. Junk! Just sayin! Good luck!
