Thanks a lot for that video from Germany! I am gonna get me a vacuum pressure gage to check my fuelpump - when I took a ride on the river rhine the last time, the engine sometimes just stopped working. I already assumed that something is wrong with the pump, but did not know how to test this. Now I am gonna try to fix it by myself - to be on the river rhine without engine power is no fun at all when all the big boats come down and up the river. Great video!!!

So is there better stronger fuel pumps that can be put on this motor? I'm about to put a '91 15 hp Johnson on my bigger boat as a kicker motor, and was hoping to connect it to the fuel tank under the deck for my big twin 140s off a valve on the water separator filter.. all 2 strokes..
@OmFishing3 жыл бұрын
I think the OEM pump are better than the after market ones. I know the service manual that I use says make sure the fuel tank is not more than 24 inches below the fuel pump. The fuel pump is only going to make between 1 and 2.5 PSI when the engine is running from idle to WOT. Good luck on the project. Be sure and let me know how it works for you. Stay Safe.

Yeah, those little fuel pumps are expensive, and subject to wear/failure from today's fuels. Excellent point about the height of the fuel tank. It is also important to evaluate the inlet side of the system for air leaks or restrictions before condemning the pump. Your clear hose is a great tool.

Hi 👋 i just bought new pump for evinrude same as you are rebuilding I have put it on today how ever when I squeeze petrol tanks petrol not going true pump in to carburettor??? So i can not start the outboard? Is this new pump faulty?? I can see petrol going in to pump so there is no problem with petrol tank plenty of pressure pussing in to pump .
@OmFishing4 жыл бұрын
I would make sure the fuel screen in the pump is clear. I don't think they would have covered it in plastic or anything. but you never know. Make sure the fuel lines are correct. That pump could be different on the inside than yours even know they look the same.

I really like your videos, I have learned a ton! I purchased a used boat with a 93 Evinrude 60hp back in April of this year and have yet to be able to go fishing with my son. I have a fuel gremlin somewhere that I have yet to figure out. I have replaced all of the fuel lines, fuel filter, fuel tank, & fuel pump. I took it out today to try it out and it acts like it is starved of fuel. It will run about 30 mph for about 30 seconds after the bulb is pumped (but also surge), then gradually slow down to about 7 mph. My Son would squeeze the bulb really fast and it would speed back up. but still surge. I purchased a fuel pressure tester gauge on the way home and plan on testing tomorrow. I don't know what else to try. I assume the new fuel pump I purchased (one week ago) is bad. By the way, the gas is good, no ethanol recreation gas here in Minnesota. Any thoughts or insight? The motor model # is E60TLETD. Thank you much for any words of wisdom you have for me.
@OmFishing5 жыл бұрын
First I would make sure that the fuel lines are all tight and not leaking air into them. Have you clean the carburetors. I went through the same thing with my 225 Evinrude. This how I got started repairing my own equipment. I took my engne over to a friend of a friend. He rebuilt all six carburetors and I payed him well. Went to the water and it would not run. To make a long story short. The carburetors were not right. The float in some of them was not set right and it would turn the gas off when the bow of the boat would start to raise up. So I bought a service manual and flowed it step by step and went the electrical system doing checks and I went through each carburetor making sure everything was set right. I made sure the linkage was synchronized making sure the timing and fuel delivery was right. I did what you have been doing. Go to the water with the family and boat don't work and then bring it back home disappointed spend more money repeat. I don't know about you but where I live by the ocean marines charge 140.00 an hour to work on your engine. I can read a lot for that price. We know one of those hours is drinking coffee. I started this channel to help save the day on the water by answering questions and help any way I can. PS I bought a VRO for mine that was not bad. Did you check the compression on the cylinders?
@jasonbrewer80655 жыл бұрын
@@OmFishing , yes I have checked compression on all three and they are good. I have also taken apart the 3 carbs and rebuilt them all. I have cleaned them 2 times, then bought the rebuild kit and rebuilt them. The surging acts like a float issue in one of the carbs from my past experiences with lawnmowers and such, but the lack of fuel issue seems to be the new fuel pump not putting out enough pressure. I will check that later today and post back. I REALLY APPRECIATE you taking time to respond to my questions. It is very expensive trying to figure these things out. Thanks again!
@jasonbrewer80655 жыл бұрын
@@OmFishing well, I took a closer look at things and found that I had some air leaking through a connection on one of my three carburetors. I also found a small leak on the main fuel line on the electric primer (don't know if that will cause any of the issues or not). I put 2 wire ties on each connector on each carb and that seems to have fixed the air leaks. I could not take it to the lake to try it out, but in the driveway, it never died at all and the bulb stayed pretty firm. I still do not know if the fuel pump is putting out enough pressure as I did not have a chance to hook up the tester today. Have a GREAT Labor Day!!
@OmFishing5 жыл бұрын
@@jasonbrewer8065 be sure and let us know how it runs.
@jasonbrewer80655 жыл бұрын
@@OmFishing yes, the same thing is happening. I double clamped the connections, and I purchased a fuel pressure tester and it was putting out between 2-1/2 & 3 psi while idleing in a 50 gallon drum of water. When I would rev up the engine, the pressure would drop to about 2psi, which I thought was strange. One side of me thinks it should have went up as the motor rev'ed up. My other thought is that maybe that is what is supposed to happen as it is trying to suck up more fuel, so the pressure goes down. I then decided to test the compression again, and it read 125 on top carb, 120 in the middle carb, and 125 on the bottom one. I am at my wit's end with this, and the season is pretty much over here in Minnesota. I guess I will winterize it and start all over again next spring. Very disappointed. In one of your videos you mentioned to keep track of which carb went where on the motor. I saw the video after I had already taken off the carbs unfortunately, and did not remember which one went where. Is there a way for me to tell? They all look identical to me.

Can a fuel pump cause serging. Speeding up and slowing down
@OmFishing3 жыл бұрын
Surging is usually fuel problem. I think it could be a fuel pump. How well does the engine idle. Does it only surge when hot or cold, low rpm or at high rpm.

wish2fish At 675 rpm on other evinrude motors it is 1lbs and as the rpm increases it will go up as high as 2 1/2 lbs at 4500 rpm this fuel pump is a little smaller. So even when I increase the rpm it did not increase. I thought it should at least have 1 lb
@wish2fish376 жыл бұрын
I am going to do this test on my 20hp. So far I have it hooked up and pumped up the primer bulb and the pressure slowly drops like yours did.It then would stop at about 5# and then hold.Should it hold constant pressure at where it was first pumped up to which was about 8#?
@OmFishing6 жыл бұрын
The real test is when the motor is running. At 600 rpm you should have 1 psi, at 2500-3000 rpm it should be 1.5 and at 4500 rpm it should be 2.5. When we first pump the ball that is checking the check valves in the fuel pump. It was hard to hold those rpm but I did see it didn't even pump 1 PSI. The motor ran mostly from the gas in the carb from pumping the ball up. I replace the pump and the motor ran good and good pressure.
@dandettmann5954 жыл бұрын
@@OmFishing...Did you do a video of replacing the fuel pump? I think mine is bad on the old 15 horse Johnson that came with my 14' Livingston I just bought. I cannot keep the engine running unless I keep pumping the ball. So I was hoping you did a video of the fuel pump. I don't know whether you buy a rebuild kit for the fuel pump or new fuel pump. Looks to be one of the easier projects I've had to do so far though...with a stuck drive shaft in the power head and starter recoil that quit working.
@OmFishing4 жыл бұрын
The fuel tank should not be more than 24 inchs lower then the fuel pump. At 600 RPM the pressure should be 1 psi. At 2500 to 3000 rpm it should read 1.5 psi. and at 4500 rpm it should read 2.5 psi. Before I check the pressure I clean the filter element and make sure the o ring is good. Make sure the fuel line is good connection and those O rings are good. If it is sucking air anywhere the engine is not going to run good.

I would suggest that before you start the test always show your test setup. In this case the gauge is connected to where, how and why. Explain what you expect and why. If you are not getting what you expect, present something that would explain why. This may be for entertainment purposes but people are trying to learn from your video.

Those pumps put out a max of 3.5 lbs .Not worth all the time this nice guy is wasting with his stupid gauge and hoses and nonsense!
