Nice video! How can I lubricate the part that rotates the cam throttle control? My motor can’t accelerate all the way unless I push the throttle control manually. It feels like it if was lubricated properly could go all the way, at this point it only turns to what looks to me 3/4 of the way.

Thanks for your video on tuning the 9.9 hp Evinrude. Question...if you have a minute. I put a new water pump on this 1980 model. When I put the lower unit back on I failed to install a baffle on the exhaust. How important is this?Shouldn’t crack it open now and put it in or will it wait till I change the lower unit oil again? Thanks.

I don't know the answer to that question. Not sure if the baffle puts back pressure on the engine or not.

Love your videos! I am having issues with the gears in my tiller assembly. They are slipping and the teeth are wearing down. It looks like whoever had it before me used a zip tie and a piece of copper wire for some reason. Any ideas on remedies? Keep up the good work!

Hey my friend i still have my 1992 9.9hp evinrude model E10RENA. I used to be able to start it in neutral like normal, give a little throttle to get it to purr a bit better. Now it wont fire up in neutral and it can only start in drive gear. Whats weird is i used to be able to twist the throttle in neutral, and now i cant really. Have you ever experienced this?

Most outboards have a limit on the throttle so you don't over rev in neutral. I sound to me that the neutral needs adjusted. I would not be good starting it in gear.

I am desperately trying to understand what u are doing but having a hard time. I need to get this thing to start on the first or second pull so i can sell it, would this setting help it to start properly and would it being off cause a hard start

These motors are set to run with only a little adjustment on the carb. The key to this is make sure everything is right. Wiring make sure ground wires are clean and good connection. Make sure you are using new spark plugs and the brand the manufacture recommends. I put Champion L78V in mine. It makes a big difference. Clean fuel and with good mix oil. Make sure the gas line is not leaking. That should do it . Let me know.

How did you move the cam back initially to get the mark on the cam and the roller to line up?

I initially twisted the throttle handle to move the cam to the mark. Then I change the settings to make that idle point. If you look at the video at 2:30 to 3:30 you can see the screw on the cam follower. I hope this answered what you are asking. If not please let me know.

After watching the video again I've realized that my cam roller is not even resting on the plate when the handle is turned all the way down. And when I turn it to full throttle it only reaches to about where the plate begins to widen. Not all the way to the end of the plate as yours does. What could be causing that? Bad alignment? If so how do I fix this? Thanks again!

I think the adjustment on the 9.9 is on the throttle control cam. Their is not a lot of movement but a little does a lot. I hope this helped. Thanks for watching and commenting.

Can you help mefigure out how to do the linkage adjusting/synchronization on my 1997 Johnson 15hp tiller model 2strk. The manual says to remove pin retaining throttle lever connector. However, you cannot access this without removing the lower power head cowling, which I attempted to do but there is one screw I cannot get to as it is almost underneath the power head by the latch mechanism and no way to access. Was wondering if anyone has ever been successful performing this synchro procedure and if so, how did you successfully remove that last screw (located inside the cowling, towards the back of the powerhead, right by the latch mechanism)? Thanks in advance!

@@OmFishing that was sort of my thoughts. I just wanted to go 4strk in case there's a complete ban on 2strks. Anyway, I ended up getting a deal on a used 20hp suzuki. It's in good shape, but needs to have the drive/timing belt replaced (apparently those need to get done every 4 years regardless of hrs on the engine), is this correct and how hard of a job would it be? I don't have the tools to remove the flywheel so any tips would be great. I can do the other regular maintenance stuff like impeller, gear oil and power head oil changes and such.. just never done a flywheel. I will be getting a manual and belt soon. @@CUBICHI1985 When I have a job like that I try to find used specialty tools. The area I live in the going rate for outboard repair is about 100- 140 per hour. I can buy a few tools and service manuals for that rate. You just have to repair the things you are comfortable with and pay for the rest. I buy a good service manual for every outboard I repair. You are on the right track know your motor.

good evening master I have a good evinrude 9.9 model 1983 which sounds good on an inflatable boat 3.80 meters. in the sea the engine speed goes up well in acciliration but not of force the speed of the boat does not exceed 4/5 knots give me some idea please ... thank you very much

When you accelerate the motor and the rpm goes up can you see it the prop is sucking air from the surface. This would cause the engine rpms to raise and the boat not go any faster as well as tilt and trim.

@@jbelimariem1959 I would try putting a larger after market cavitation plate on the motor. If you look around bass pro and some of the others sell just the thing. I put one on my evinrude 30hp it helped alot.

I shift mine while it is not running. Do not force it. You might have to turn the engine a little to get it to release. Make sure the plug wires are off before trying to work it.

The first thing that I would check is the fuel lines and tank. Make sure that there are no leaks in any connections or lines. Have you clean the carb? Does the slow speed needle valve look good?

@@OmFishing rebuilt the carb 4 yrs ago, and had it service this yr, the needle valve looks good, new tank, Ill check / replace fuel lines, is there and easy way to check for air leaks? I think Ill try seafoam too

@@blueback21 When I check the fuel lines I look at the o rings on the ends to make sure they look good. The end clamps are tight and the ball is in good working order. I have set the fuel tank on the seat before so it is a little higher to see if that makes a difference. When I do that it makes it easy on the fuel pump and it don't have to draw gas from the lowest part of the boat. I do this just as a test I don't leave it there.

If we are talking about the twist throttle handle do not force it. Check the gear right at the base of the throttle linkage beside the motor. That is where it usually freezes up.

@@OmFishing yes sir the tiller handle tried moving the gear coming off of the engine before it meets the gear on the tiller handle and it will move a little bit but the gear in front of it that the gear on the tiller handle connects to is frozen up throttle wont budge. 1964 seahorse 9.9 thank you for your input and advice I really appreciate it I've been trying to figure it out since I bought the motor

I would get a kit and rebuild the fuel pump, the diaphragm is probably stiff.
