After many delays the all new Skoda Octavia has been launched in India. It is available only with the 2 litre TSI turbo petrol engine and 7 speed DSG gearbox and we have tested the top-of-the-like L&K variant. Ya but those gearbox are second quality, audi vw gets best quality, hence skoda faces those gearbox issues. Read this somewhere

@@pratapfeelinggood idts because that is not the usual case with the newer octavias and the superbs... The computer tech and engine and wheelbase all is similar to the Audi The Audi is so expensive in India because of the Indian taxation policy about CBU's

Excellent review! Pros: Softer suspension High quality interiors Cons: Ridiculous pricing No sunroof No ventilated seats No 360 camera Softer handling No diesel Wow factor missing! My verdict: No doubt a very good car. 35 lakh on road mumbai. Overpriced and under equipped. Cars costing nearly half this amount have better equipment. PS: Insider news… The vRS will cost 49 L on road, mumbai. Shhh 🤫

@@ramdmohan First gen RS was best in my opinion. 30 lac for RS was a steal deal. But then SKODA realised we need more margin so they tuned for more power which is overkill for roads and speed limit in our country.

When other reviews kept stressing on the absence of a sunroof, I knew EvoIndia and Sirish sir will be different. Great review, but I think the comparison should have been with another sedan of the same price point, or a Jeep Compass, if you're going with an SUV.

An excellent reviews for both perspectives an enthusiastic and a chauffeur driven perspective. That's what we want. We don't want to judge a car/SUV on the number of Cubby holes it has or just for the sake of sunroof. What really matters is how the vehicle drives in real world. Thank you evoindia for this review. I genuinely think that the Compass would have been a better face for SUVs here. Not only that has a more sophisticated AWD system but also great handling dynamics. The new Compass is also a lot swankier than the Tucson! Great comparison Sirish sir 👍

I think some of the car names in India has so much history and respect to them like octavia and fortuner. Skoda started their innings in India with this car. But no diesel engine is real shame imo otherwise I would choose octavia any day over tucson or any other suv in this price bracket.

I am à fan of Octavia since its first gen. Really good review. 👍 I was just a bit irritated with the 80kmph buzzer which really kicked multiple times. I can feel your pain hearing it multiple times which affects the driving pleasure for sure...

Real OG SUVs are landrover defender, velar, vogue, Evoque, Mercedes g63, Mercedes GLS, lexus LX450, toyota landcruiser, fortuner, Ford Bronco, endeavour, Jeep Wrangler, Jeep grand Cherokee, mahindra scorpio and mahindra thar. Because these all are RWD and AWD and can perform much serious offroading. Not those compact FWD hatchback on steroids which can stuck on mud

Great video and extremely relevant as customers who have a budget of Rs 30 - 35 lacs would be looking at all options in this price range, whether it be SUVs or cars! Another good option to look at in this price range would be the Compass Model S. I can't help but feel that Skoda have missed the boat with the pricing, and the reasons are many: (1) For the price of a petrol Octavia, customers can buy the fully loaded AWD diesel versions of the Tucson and Compass. The diesel engines are more fuel efficient than the Skoda petrol along with the benefits of All Wheel Drive. (2) Both the Compass and the Tucson have panoramic sunroofs, and these are very popular with all the family members! (3) Skoda cars have very low re-sale values, due mostly to the very high cost of spares. Reliability is also an issue with Skoda, mostly with regard to the automatic gear box transmission, but also with the engines. Problems do crop up after 5 years or so due to engine oil problems (apparently the turbo chargers are one of the culprits for this) and so engine oil should be checked at frequent intervals and customers should not wait for the prescribed service intervals. Based on the above, a maximum on road price for the Octavia L&K should have been 26 to 27 lacs given that the Tucson Diesel AWD GLS model is available for Rs 31 lacs on road. Paying Rs 35 lacs for the Octavia which is going to be worth Rs 5 lacs after five years needs to be considered carefully. Don't get me wrong - I love driving Octavias (having owned one myself), but the gap between heart and mind is too wide now!

Not to forget that Hyundai offers 30k or 3yrs free service on Tucson. They replace any parts which can go wrong due to mechanical defects. My friend replaced his all 4 tyres within 2nd year as there was some issue with the car and they could not sort it with alignment or balancing it.

The diesel Tucson is a wonderful machine; not sure why people keep underestimating it. No doubt the Compass is a very capable SUV but the diesel engine and 8 speed gearbox combo in Tucson is simply better than the 9 speed auto gearbox of Compass. Also the diesel engine in Compass is less refined than Tucson. Although I am personally still inclined towards Compass because of the overall road presence and awesome interiors, but may still end up owning the Tucson considering the comfortable ride and smooth driving.

You will not believe that we compared these two cars 3 yrs ago and decided to buy our Octy and never looked back. Octy is still surviving the SUV onslaught becoz of the quality, handling and performance.

Nice review as always Sir. Well, honestly speaking, I would anyway prefer a car from a one lower or one upper segment than these two. None of them have the most basic thing even after spending close to 30 lakhs. The space. Harrier/MG or the upcoming XUV700 over Tucson and Current gen Superb will be my choice. Loved the review. Never expected this kind of review. Fabulous review. A comprehensive one. I strongly agree with the Fuel Quality thing in the country. It really gets annoying if one cannot get the right quality of fuel for a car of this stature. Out of the two showcased here, my pick would be the Octavia for sure. I still remember how Octavia rivalled the Chevrolet Optra. Optra was a worthy competitor. Both the cars were launched in the same era & Octavia moved ahead with full throttle. Thank you once again for this Brainstorming Review. I sincerely loved it.❤

Sedans have always been my choice & I would definitely pick the Skoda over the Tuscon. The Octavia for me seems to be the better proposition because of its build quality which the Hyundai can't match, the suspension setup ( it's fine but a slightly firmer setup would have been much better), the performance is quite impressive ( although I would have wanted a diesel for that kick in the pants feel & better economy as well), that DSG gearbox is superb ( although not very reliable). I am also not a very big fan of sunroofs as they tend to heat the car on sunny days, thus forcing the AC unit to work harder. I just wish if Skoda had offered a diesel engine & ventilated seats & priced it a bit sensibly, then it would have been a great deal. Nevertheless, it still makes for a good choice

The Tucson is a CKD and it's quality is nothing like the other Hyundai cars. The Octavia is overpriced for what it offers and with rising fuel prices, doesn't make sense to get a petrol, especially when it is a 2L turbo. The most important factor is petrol cars are more susceptible to fuel quality changes.

in the price range..25 to 30lakhs Our Indian roads & highway safety reasons. depreciating value plummeting in a few years. fuel cost - mileage . in the long run. A premium diesel SUV 👌👍

Great review. But it should have been Octavia vs Compass. Except for performance, that car would have run the Octy closer in all parameters and beaten it in ride and build quality.

Octavia had its diffrnt charm but new one just look like mini superb with almost similar pricing and lack in some features and when you think the new gen superb will touch 45 50 lkh bracelet I think best think you can buy now around 40 is Superb

Amazing comparison, lot of people are asking for comparison with Compass but its not the right thing to do so. Compass is lower in price bracket and comparing 1.4 litre with a 2.0 litre engine is not right !!

I feel lucky to own the RS230. By the time 2021 RS245 launched in India as CBU I'm guessing its gonna cost 50 Lakh all inclusive.

Most people in the comment section keep mentioning Compass is better than Tucson. The fact of the matter is that Tucson and Compass both are equally good with Tucson being slightly better overall. The issue is that as indians we don't tend associate Hyundai with expensive cars whereas world over Hyundai delivers cars at all entry points. Take US/Canada as a market, Compass is fricking total failure, whereas Tucson has down quite well. As indians we like Compass as it comes from JEEP whereas Tucson comes from hyundai. We like compass because we want to show we bought a JEEP. Btw, the new Tucson will again sell like hot cakes in the American market, whereas Compass still won't.

China has Octavia Pro, which is the long wheelbase Octy. It is made for China as exporting cars is hard in China. Internatonally, the Octavia doesn't get a sunroof.

I admired sedans right from my childhood days, in fact my dream car then was the Honda Civic(8th gen 1.8VTEC black colour). At present I am an owner of a black Hyundai Tucson 4WD. I have realised that in the Indian context it is the SUVs which make more sense (although Tucson is a SUV which is the most sedan like to drive in its class IMO which was the reason I chose it over the sedans and other SUVs)

I couldn't agree more. I have 2 sedans. They are comfortable and fast, but on bad roads, when fully loaded, they tend to induces some anxiety. IMHO, the Tucson 4WD is as closest we can get to a reliable sedan in the SUV market. It is powerful, comfortable, spacious and has the reliability of a Hyundai. And from what I have seen, it is nothing similar in its quality with its younger siblings. And It drives pretty well too. Would definitely get a Tucson 4WD when I will be looking for an upgrade.

@@adityasundar324 Even though its much better than other Hyundai Cars sold in India it's a shame that it didn't recieve the sucess it deserved(same case as erstwhile Santa Fe, primarily because people don't want to spend that much for a Hyundai as they can get more premium brand for same price). Its 2L diesel with 8 speed AT is a match made in heaven. Definitely worth considering:-)

@@aryaansarkar2570 Absolutely true. People either want Big cars or Fancy brands and those well deserving cars under perform as a result and eventually go out of production. Hopefully the next generation of the Tucson is successful. I can stress on how much the reliability factor plays on cars priced over 30L and the Tucson fits the bill. Although many say how good the Compass or Tiguan is, the A&SS and FCA and VWAG cars are no where close to a Hyundai or a Maruti.

In this case however the skoda built is way better than hyundai. Skoda does not rattle after 5,10 years. In case of safety too skoda/vw are better than hyundai.If you want features buy hyundai and if you a want a solid car buy the skoda. To add skoda has laser welding,6 stage paint finish,galvanized body, chassis made by hot forged steel, more sound insulation. Evo should point this out to all car enthusiasts.

From the the 13 min onwards and when I saw this review while wearing my headphones I could hear a squeaking sound while he was turning the car. This is a problem I have also noticed on my new Octavia !! Not sure if others have also faced the same issue

The new Skoda Octavia is quite expensive. It’s a nice car though. Thing is from a pragmatic daily use ability and need for higher ground clearance, stand point, and given this price point, most buyers will buy an SUV. The thing to remember is, the luggage space is useful for sure. But most buyers will be looking for passenger space and a commanding position both in front and in the rear. Apart from that, our countrymen except for a few more discerning ones, generally tend to prefer gizmos and electronics and bling of the Asian cars to the solid reassurance and safety of an European car. And there is always the perception of price, service costs and the like, where the Europeans have a reputation of being more expensive…

@@varuntomer1725 sadly even on our highways we have some sudden unpredictable potholes and home made speed breakers which will cause normal cars to bottom out. That’s the main reason SUVs and Quasi SUVs and cars with higher ground clearance are such a huge hit in India.

I may be wrong but if the engine is rated at 187hp then it's on regular fuel, yes high octane 95 suits this engine better but power and smoothness will increase further not as said in the video that to get 187 you need high octane
