It's hilarious how people complain about sumo deadlifts even though it's been a part of powerlifting for so many decades. Here's an athlete demonstrating sumo deadlifts and how to do it in 1983 at 10:09. People use a sumo stance to pick up furniture too.

That's how Paul Anderson did it back in the 50s/60s too. So sumo predates powerlifting by a few decades
@mac59176 ай бұрын
It changes nothing though😂 just because it’s old doesn’t mean it’s less cheating? It’s a different lift just admit it, everyone who tried both knows it

cut out the sumo cancer. it looks ridiculous
@BreyFitness6 ай бұрын
@@mac5917 It's not cheating if it's allowed. People have and will use sumo stances to pick up objects like furniture because it's better for them. Same applies with conventional. Sumo deadlifts are for life. Powerlifting is not for you.

Paul Jordan was an epic lifter. Knew him in Perth in the late 80s. Nice guy and doesn't deserve the weak comments he's copped over the years.

Paul Jordan’s 1977 injury reminds me of Ed Coan’s 2002 injury which reminds me of Alexander Sedykh’s 2020 injury…and I have squats tomorrow morning 💀

Fred Hatfield in 1983 at 8:47, is 41 years old there squatting 815lbs, not bad for what would be considered "past your prime", kudos to him :-)

Yes, it was a picture-perfect squat as well. Great tempo down and up.

Thanks for not warning us about the blonde powerlifter getting injured at 1977 worlds. That was painful to watch

My fault 😔 Fun fact: Paul Jordan continued competing and two years after this injury he won the 1979 British championships with a 860kg total 🤯

So 1995 is when they started doing that over exaggerated arch on the bench press

Believe me its not a SUMO debate per se Its the use of extra long thin deadlift bars .I can prove this because no one complaied when Bridges or Coan broke record after record with sumo deadlift . All lifts were done Ultra stiff 29mm powerbar.

Ego lifting is worse than drugs. Lift what you know you can lift. That’s just too much weight to be playing with like that.
@baronmeduse5 ай бұрын
Okay, but that obviates the entire point of powerlifting.

There's balls and there's madness. The way his both of his legs entirely buckled was SICKENING. That's the most horrific injury I've seen in any sport.
