I actually love how freaking EXTRA the Dread one is, because it adds so much to the culture and personality of the Mawkin Tribe! Compare that with the Save Stations on Zebes (Zero Mission and Super Metroid) as well as SR388 (Metroid 2). Like with ZDR, these are made by Chozo, but from the Thoha Tribe. And by comparison, they are so much more simple! Much more *humble.* _Meanwhile, the Mawkin architecture just_ *exudes* _power and majesty!_ It really represents how grandiose that Chozo Tribe was, far less spiritual and much more delusional with ideas of might and conquest.

The save animation for Prime 2 lends a TON of immersion to the experience, especially for Dark Aether. I love the feeling of relief in reaching a safe haven in a pocket of light as Samus is visibly exhausted from the toxic environment, I loved the sound redesign of the lasers charging her up as she is visibly re-energized, and that final "wake up, bird person" sound as Samus's attention snaps back forward as if she just woke from a nap, recharged. I remember when I played MP2 for the first time on GameCube shortly after its release. When I saw all the ways they added polish to various animations like item acquisition, I found that the save room animation and sound was polished the most beautifully. Samus no longer stands in that awkward, looping stance animation, you can actually empathize with her visible relief. Also, I have a real soft spot for smoothly-animated pixel graphics so I love both GBA titles' save room animations, but Zero Mission's is stunning with the way this cylindrical field hologram forms around Samus (I used to think it was a glass tube that materializes around her, but who knows). It's that kind of smooth technique that makes pixel style animation so amazing to me, you can make something look incredible if you're working with limited tech. Thank you for another great compilation!

@GroundMemory2 жыл бұрын
They got the immersion right in that one aspect of taking the camera back into Samus's helmet. But in my opinion, Prime 2's save animation adds more life to Samus. I love the laser sound redesign and the animation more than P1, which is just a looping idle animation with not much nuance besides Samus standing up straight. Seeing Samus get recharged while saving in Dark Aether makes its Dark and toxic atmosphere feel more dangerous and that much more effective.

I always wondered what the in-universe lore for save stations are. Like, figuring out where the game mechanics end and the lore begins. Because I don't think they literally resurrect Samus (or any creature) back in time. That would be too powerful and beg the question of why don't any enemies use them, or even fellow bounty hunters like Rundas and Gandrayda? Here are some interesting tidbits about them: -They have been constructed by many different species, including the Chozo, Luminoth, Galactic Federation, and Space Pirates. -They range in size and complexity from a whole room filled with machinery to a single machine set up ramshackle in a cave, with no apparent difference in effectiveness. -Only Samus is ever seen using them.

What I wanna know is why most games after super took the 5th note of the loading sound and split it into 2 notes. It's not consistent, either, Zero Mission doesn't do it, but Fusion, Prime, and Samus Returns do. It honestly sounds like a skipping CD. ...Not that kids these days would know what THAT sounds like.

really reaching for something to complain about, huh?

Prime and Fusion likely both did it the same way to add a bit of consistency between the two, as they released around the same time. Zero Mission probably wanted to be consistent with the original game. Samus Returns mainly used the prime versions for other returning fanfares/themes (item collect theme and ridley's theme), so this was likely done for consistency as the prime games also split the last note into 2. Actually, it sounds like that last note was always split into two, its just that the first note of the two used to last long enough that the sound would just flow into the next note.

The last note being split is in super Metroid where it originated, it’s also in zero mission but only on the strings and it’s harder to hear but still there. It’s in every single one so it’s not inconsistent

@@Midrule The notes may be split, but I think what the op is noticing is that some games have the second to last note play for a short time while others play it for a long time. When the second to last note is played long enough, the last two notes sound almost like one note. Also, I think the split notes might've been in the original metroid too.

@@KijigamiThePhasianus Right, like I was saying, the Famicom Disc System version had the save system, and the NES got the cruddy password system.

For me, to best to worst is: 1.- Dread 2.- Super 3.- Samus Returns and Prime Trilogy 4.- Other M 5.- Return of Samus 6.- Zero Mission 7.-Metroid(it does have one) 8.-Fusion

Why would you lump all of the Prime games together, and why lump them with Samus returns? Short of all sharing the same fanfare, the save animations across those four games look very little alike. Samus just enters an idle animation in Prime 1, but in Prime 2 and 3 she's fully animated. And Samus Returns is barely even an animation at all.
