That 1980's Superman cartoon is an overlooked classic, and it's unfortunate that it only lasted one season. It did with the Superman movies in animation what the Batman movies would do with Batman TAS. And I also suggest checking out the Batman:The Brave and the Bold episode Battle of the Superheroes. It's an entire episode devoted to "Superdickery." It's brilliant.

I rewatched an episode recently, and it's still very impressive. This was from the "Super Heroes can't throw a Punch" era, and it was a network cartoon to boot. Unlike Superfriends, they managed to write around that, but still give a good Superman series. You barely even notice it.

I used to think the Fleischer cartoons came out in the 1960's and 1970s. I was shocked when i found out they were released in 1941. They were definitely ahead of their time with the animation quality.

Also during the 70s, Superman had his power level reduced in the brilliant but abandoned 1971-72 Sandman saga from Denny O'Neil in a period when fellow DC heroes in Batman (through O'Neil and artist Neal Adams) restored the caped crusader back to his dark detective roots, Green Lantern and Green Arrow becoming Hard Traveling Heroes and Wonder Woman going through a less than stellar period of being depowered and wearing mod outfits (only for that to be abandoned after criticism)

It may be 60 whole years, but in that time period he appears in very little, and doesn’t exactly have an interesting “story” or “history”. It’s something I’ve toyed with in the past, but don’t think he’s a character that lends himself very well to a video like this.
