Say the back legs of the at-m6 do get tripped, the walker might just end up falling back a bit and tilt up but not actually become immobile. I mean heck, those front legs might be strong enough to actually move that thing back up on its feet. @@CallanElliott I would say that depends on use, as specialization must be taken into account. The AT-TE works as a general assault unit, while both the AT-M6 and SPHA are specialized as artillery units. An AT-TE functions well enough on its own due to its multi-purpose weaponry and low profile, but that doesn't mean the AT-M6 and SPHA are inherently bad because they are large and specialized. The difference is both would require an escort to fend off attackers while the artillery takes out heavy or far off targets. Personally, I still prefer the AT-TE since it can perform light artillery duties with its mass driver cannon, but sometimes heavier firepower is needed.

Additionally, the strike was a very poor one, landing down the side of the cockpit at an extreme angle, as opposed to striking square against an armored plate where a penetrator warhead would work its best.

Well yes, the AT-TE was the most versatile and all-around best walker, the AT-AT and AT-M6 also were very good with their own purposes. For example the AT-AT was used for intimidation and fear tactics, but was also used for a mobile high ground artillery, with a slow but steady advance on the battlefield; effectively leveling what it came across. While still having a very broad view of the field. With the AT-M6, it was used for the same reasons and more, with the addition of the Mega caliber six cannon for devastating destruction of any durable opponents in it’s path, and the more heavily armored cockpit and reinforced legs with built in cable cutters. Essentially solving some of the AT-AT’s problems. While I believe the AT-TE is very good, the other walkers do better in other scenarios and purposes.

Another problem with the AT-AT is that you're putting all that weight on 4 small points of contact with the ground. Tracked vehicles have the advantage of dispersing their weight across a larger area of ground contact. This allows them to traverse mud, snow and other unstable terrain far better than AT-AT. Additionally, the less pressure on the ground, the less likely you'll set off pressure mines. So the taller AT-AT is still vulnerable to mines.
@maxdoom35214 жыл бұрын
I hate when people say the height of the AT-AT makes it stupid for grip transport. We have people wh rappel down from helicopters in real life and they hover quite a ways above the ground. The AT-AT is just a lot more armored, and a lot more stable as it has 4 legs keeping it grounded as where a helicopter isn't quite as stable. So no, they won't just "fall to their deaths" that's quite a dumb statement to be honest. It has other flaws such as how goddamn slow it is but I think it's just fun for everyone to shit on the empire because.

The term form factor can be used more loosely, referring to them all walking on legs for locomotion, similar to land animals. Ex: The Toyota Supra and BMW Z4 share the same platform, but they are not the same form factor because one is a hatchback and the other a convertible.

Drop a good sized bomb and you might get a crater 5ft deep.

@@petrsukenik9266 you mean that idiotic doctrine of "big, over designed and strategically useless vs practical and efficient"? No thanks

An AT-TE's armor is too weak, and they are easily taken out with missiles. AT-AT's had flaws, but were still not nearly as vulnerable. I'll put it this way, if you want to fell an AT-AT, you will probably have to trip it with tow cables. This requires you to circle it several times while being right next to a lot of enemy forces. You've got good odds of just getting shot down instead of actually downing the walker. But you can shoot a missile at an AT-TE from a distance away, and then flee.
