I like how part of the reason so many people adopted blasters was because body armor also advanced to a point where many slug throwers were near useless against armored people but blasters tore right through the vast majority of armors and so after most people adopted blasters people generally stopped wearing body armor (with the exceptions of some military forces who had the money for blaster resistant armor), so now slug throwers are still relevant, it's just standardized ammo is not as readily available. Also, slug throwers make the ideal weapon for hunting Jedi and Sith, but the chances of a person encountering either in the vast span of the galaxy are so low that most have it no where in their mind to keep one handy.

I have play Star Wars RPG close to 30 years out of my 42 years of life. If my character was allow to take up the right skill set, I would create explo. bullets that could go through 5 cm of plate armor with Ion dmg. There is nothing like firing a heavy riffle that can go through four storm troops at the same time.

@@krispalermo8133 was doing an Edge of the Empire RPG with friends and my character did something like that. She started with a standard slug rifle then did a bunch of quests to get parts for a custom rifle. After a bit the GM and I came up with a system where she could craft specialty ammo to fit different roles. The catch was the ammo types were strong in some senses and weak in others and she had a limited amount and had to learn how to make each one and craft them at her workbench on the groups ship or at a gunsmiths (if one was present and wiling to let her use the shop).

@@gravygraves5112 Ammo types, the weight of a a full metal jacket tungsten APC riffle bullet with a AAA size battery charge of dilithium with thermate compression adds up. The running joke is the loaded ammo magazine weights in more than the riffle does. For anyone else reading this post, " dilithium " is what are cell phone batteries are made of and not Star Trek crystals. We also had low velocity shot gun slug that all they did was knock heavy armor troops off their feet. My game shop of around a dozen players in their later 20's into their 40's+ did a few hours of math to figure out what their damage could at what range in meters. It went from Slap stick humor, to broken bones, lost of limbs and huge holes through a given torso that you can see light shine through to finally, " Bruh you can't say this ammo isn't a war crime to be used. " And if you were far enough from where the bullet was fires from, you could catch the slug before it hit the floor. Favorite line of the Game Story Teller, " Random die roll says the bullet jammed in your riffle, what does your character do ?" PC, " I am throwing my riffle at the enemy and diving for cover !"

One advantage of a blaster is lugging around less kit. The same amount of firepower from slug throwers mean hauling a LOT of bulky ammo.

The right tool for the job. It really depends on the situation. We have issues with people causing wild fires with regular ammunition in places like California. A blaster would practically a be like using a flare gun. Legally speaking in America, Idk if it's a firearm technically because the projectile is so slow and light weight.

What if it was a button that turned everyone into meatloaf, and the sign said no push, but some funny guy presses it. Boom, humanity is dead, nothing but our architecture and a few billion plates of slowly cooling meatloaf nobody will probably finish. What a way to end the streak of success humanity has been hitting since we began existing. Can you do an episode on the evolution of dolphin technology, tactics and battles? From what I understand places like Seaworld and places where you can "swim with a dolphin" were actually created by dolphins to lure humans into thinking dolphins were cute, friendly and smart (but not as smart as humans). Which is why dolphin rape and attacks often go unnoticed. Humans don't believe sucha creature could do such things. They have paid to have history of these events removed form schools.

Well technically companies still produce firearms. Verpine shatter guns are basically hand held railguns except they can turn anything into a deadly projectile, even rocks can be loaded into them built there are special bullets made to be used in them as well. Flechete weapons fire super heated metal shards at people in a shotgun style pattern or fire razor sharp blades and metal shrapnel at people. Some even have homing features on the flechete rounds. Projectile weapons are basically conventional firearms though star wars managed to somehow make corrosive bullets that melt people and armor for some projectile weapons.

"Autocannons". Yeesh, I remember when they were just called blaster cannons or repeaters. Also, IIRC disruptors were banned not because of how powerful they were, but because shooting an organic with one caused an extremely painful "sear the flesh from your bones" disintegration. No clean and pretty Star Trek style "shimmer and vanish" disintegrations here folks, just a whole lot of agonized screaming followed by a pile of ash, bone fragments, and whatever the victim was wearing that was durable enough to survive! FUN[/sarcasm].

Well you know what those people I just can’t stand up and I don’t think their opinions count as Star Wars fact. I don’t think they’re very humble either. But you and metanerdslore really both do a good job and you stick to the facts not opinions and you’re both real chill and friendly and humble about it all. Modern blasters make perfect sense. E-11, DC-15S, E-5 blasters are pretty much equivalent to modern assault rifles. A280, A280C blasters are very similar to Battle Rifles. Obviously there are blaster pistols such as the iconic DL-44. Blasters such as the DC-15A fill the SAW or LMG role. Heavier weapons exist filling the role of GPMG. Star Wars nails military blaster designs.

It has been a while but I remember reading something about the trials where soldiers praised the 059, however it was either too expensive or just too unreliable to go into production. The fact you reference the Pribor though is kinda sad, the 059 is far superior to the Pribor, then again, there is no way to prove this, unless the Tula Firearms Museum decides to allow reproduction to be made.

The listed range is so long you'd need to be on a mountain to see the enemy because on "Flat" ground the curvature of an earth sized planet would block your shot, they'd be below the horizon line.

Just want to note that the blaster has a crucial advantage over a slug thrower for military and/or civilian use in star wars. A blaster shot is not influenced by gravity. This makes it ideal to use on different worlds without thinking about bullet drop like you have to do when firing a bullet from a slugthrower. Different worlds, different gavitational pul, different bullet drop each time. Blaster dos not care about that. And yes i am ignoring the weird curving cannon shots from snoke's ship in space, in the last jedi. Makes no sense to me. Regarding of blaster or slugthrower.

I like the idea of incorporating hypermatter into turbo laser batteries. A special hyperspace ring like device could be mounted around the barrel of the turbo laser, and a targeting computer can use sensors to scan the distance to an enemy and it’s shield placement. Then it can use hypermatter and the hyper space ring to force turbo laser bolts into hyperspace, being programmed to exit hyperspace when it’s cleared the shield. As a consequence it also gains insane amounts of momentum and kinetic energy. The same technology could be applied to proton torpedoes, concussion missiles, and even crazier, homing cluster missiles. You could also incorporate some kind if hyperspace tunneling as a shielding mechanism against it.

Since the verse is so well developed for planet warfare.. they literally have a version of most everything. Often MULTIPLE versions of everything AND multiple counters too. While most others like Treks ground armies are ridiculously lightly armed by comparison. An their stuff isn't as durable or powerful.

what's the muzzle velocity of a blaster? also, an advantage of projectile artillery is that it can be used for indirect fire. E.g. mortars.

I’ve always liked those little tiny guns woman used to carry in the 1800’s with the ivory handles and the detailed etching on the silver barrels, I want a blaster like that Ps we need a new 4K open world (well galaxy) Star Wars knights of the old republic game that’s long to play and following the similar model as the old but you get to build your own ships or buy new ones etc a huge open galaxy game....... please edios Montreal or even Ubisoft make it happen please.

Alan, were disruptor weapons made into smaller blasters or only larger ones like in those Rebels clips?

Hey, just an idea i thought of for a video (not sure if it’s been done before) but maybe you could compare the power of sith who are fallen Jedi such as darth Vader or count dooku compared to sith who have trained to be sith throughout their training. Just think it’d be cool to see if fallen Jedi are naturally stronger or weaker in the dark side of the force. (I know it does also depend on the power of the force user, just talking generally).

could a star forge mass produce imperial tie fighters? I know the star forge is limited in the complexity of the ships it can forge, so would the imperial tie fighter, or better yet the vulture droid starfighters, be too advanced for the star forge to mass produce?

If leaf blowers would be usable as beamtubes... Actually that's a terrible thought, i would shoot my boss on sight and wouldn't even feel the tiniest bit of remorse making me from a "lawful good" to an upright "chaotic evil" type of guy. From Jedi to Sith, with just one kill.

Now you need to do the Bowcaster. "I like this thing" - Han Solo. After all, a Wookie could carry a crew serviced blaster, or Baze's man portable mini gun with ease, so it has got to have some advantages, besides airtime for bodies. And speaking of which, an episode on Baze's MWC-35c "Staccato Lightning" repeating cannon, which is awesome, and solves the overheating problem, why wasn't it standard issue? Another idea, this one controversial, weapons control in Star Wars. Disruptors were banned, but you could walk around civilian streets with a machine gun or assault rifle, and open carry a pistol on your belt anywhere, bars, fancy restaurants (dinner at Bespins) anywhere. Now this will trigger the Americans (think of the hits and comments section … 💰) but just from a practical perspective, what kind of incompetent totalitarian regime allows subjugated people to walk around with more firepower that their own soldiers?

Depends which planet you were on but you never had more than the military, merely on par with them at best. The A280 Blaster in use by the rebels wasn't exactly superior to the E-11 in use by the Empire, rather an equivilant with a different ideal range, as the E-11 was very effective in close quarters such as ship boarding combat while the A280 was Armour Piercing and had more accuracy but was heavier with a lower fire rate making it less ideal for close quarters. In the core worlds most blasters were officially banned but the rules regarding them were not often followed, Senators for the Republic often illegally carried a self defense blaster. Bounty hunters got a special license that allowed them to carry and use blasters in areas that usually restricted their use, but the further you get from the core, the less weapon control there was.
