I like how part of the reason so many people adopted blasters was because body armor also advanced to a point where many slug throwers were near useless against armored people but blasters tore right through the vast majority of armors and so after most people adopted blasters people generally stopped wearing body armor (with the exceptions of some military forces who had the money for blaster resistant armor), so now slug throwers are still relevant, it's just standardized ammo is not as readily available. Also, slug throwers make the ideal weapon for hunting Jedi and Sith, but the chances of a person encountering either in the vast span of the galaxy are so low that most have it no where in their mind to keep one handy.

@@krispalermo8133 was doing an Edge of the Empire RPG with friends and my character did something like that. She started with a standard slug rifle then did a bunch of quests to get parts for a custom rifle. After a bit the GM and I came up with a system where she could craft specialty ammo to fit different roles. The catch was the ammo types were strong in some senses and weak in others and she had a limited amount and had to learn how to make each one and craft them at her workbench on the groups ship or at a gunsmiths (if one was present and wiling to let her use the shop).

The running joke is the loaded ammo magazine weights in more than the riffle does. For anyone else reading this post, " dilithium " is what are cell phone batteries are made of and not Star Trek crystals. We also had low velocity shot gun slug that all they did was knock heavy armor troops off their feet. My game shop of around a dozen players in their later 20's into their 40's+ did a few hours of math to figure out what their damage could at what range in meters. It went from Slap stick humor, to broken bones, lost of limbs and huge holes through a given torso that you can see light shine through to finally, " Bruh you can't say this ammo isn't a war crime to be used. " And if you were far enough from where the bullet was fires from, you could catch the slug before it hit the floor. Verpine shatter guns are basically hand held railguns except they can turn anything into a deadly projectile, even rocks can be loaded into them built there are special bullets made to be used in them as well. Flechete weapons fire super heated metal shards at people in a shotgun style pattern or fire razor sharp blades and metal shrapnel at people. Some even have homing features on the flechete rounds. Projectile weapons are basically conventional firearms though star wars managed to somehow make corrosive bullets that melt people and armor for some projectile weapons.

This makes it ideal to use on different worlds without thinking about bullet drop like you have to do when firing a bullet from a slugthrower. Different worlds, different gavitational pul, different bullet drop each time. Blaster dos not care about that. And yes i am ignoring the weird curving cannon shots from snoke's ship in space, in the last jedi. Makes no sense to me. Regarding of blaster or slugthrower.

I like the idea of incorporating hypermatter into turbo laser batteries. A special hyperspace ring like device could be mounted around the barrel of the turbo laser, and a targeting computer can use sensors to scan the distance to an enemy and it’s shield placement. Then it can use hypermatter and the hyper space ring to force turbo laser bolts into hyperspace, being programmed to exit hyperspace when it’s cleared the shield. As a consequence it also gains insane amounts of momentum and kinetic energy. The same technology could be applied to proton torpedoes, concussion missiles, and even crazier, homing cluster missiles. You could also incorporate some kind if hyperspace tunneling as a shielding mechanism against it.

Now you need to do the Bowcaster. "I like this thing" - Han Solo. After all, a Wookie could carry a crew serviced blaster, or Baze's man portable mini gun with ease, so it has got to have some advantages, besides airtime for bodies. And speaking of which, an episode on Baze's MWC-35c "Staccato Lightning" repeating cannon, which is awesome, and solves the overheating problem, why wasn't it standard issue? Another idea, this one controversial, weapons control in Star Wars. Disruptors were banned, but you could walk around civilian streets with a machine gun or assault rifle, and open carry a pistol on your belt anywhere, bars, fancy restaurants (dinner at Bespins) anywhere. Now this will trigger the Americans (think of the hits and comments section … 💰) but just from a practical perspective, what kind of incompetent totalitarian regime allows subjugated people to walk around with more firepower that their own soldiers?

Depends which planet you were on but you never had more than the military, merely on par with them at best. The A280 Blaster in use by the rebels wasn't exactly superior to the E-11 in use by the Empire, rather an equivilant with a different ideal range, as the E-11 was very effective in close quarters such as ship boarding combat while the A280 was Armour Piercing and had more accuracy but was heavier with a lower fire rate making it less ideal for close quarters. In the core worlds most blasters were officially banned but the rules regarding them were not often followed, Senators for the Republic often illegally carried a self defense blaster. Bounty hunters got a special license that allowed them to carry and use blasters in areas that usually restricted their use, but the further you get from the core, the less weapon control there was.

Lazer is an initialism, as in, you pronounce it as a single word rather than as separate initials ie, NASA vs N.A.S.A

I feel it is more likely to weaponize heated plasma for infantry use than the blaster technology in the star wars universe

Along the way they also forgot, mostly, the utility of a stock to make accurate shots.

Blasters would make you go blind....it's easier to live with a hearing impairment than a visual impairment.

'le gasp' those blasters look suspiciously gun like. Digitally replace them with walkie talkies! While we're at it, we might as well switch lightsabers out with pool noodles. That's called looking ahead!

so disrupters.... increadibly effective don't seem to be that war crimey... rebels tend to be very desperate... disrupters should've been their standard weapon

With lasers it isn't even just power to run the thing you've also got to cool the mirrors and things that make it up which takes a shit ton of energy to do also
