What fly would you fish? Also, the Crystal bugger is now up on the website for those who dont tie or just want to support my work: www.mainely-outdoors.com/product-page/crystal-wooly-bugger

I would fish both. The white one on a bright day in clear water. The black one on an overcast day or in stained water.

Officially calling this version the Omilu Reaper Looks similar to a Jumping Jack: A small all-black tide pool fish found here in Hawaii. About the size of your pinky finger. It's very quick when startled, and likes to jump from one tide pool to another to escape predators. Omilu: is our name for 5-20 pound sized trevally's here in Hawaii. Ours is a beautiful blue and green color along with the usual strong white and silver on its main body. Some variants include black, yellow, all silver, etc. The never really get up to 40+ pounds unless it's the White Trevally or the Black Trevally

Going out tommorow to a stream i thought had a huge kill off but appearntly is fishing well now that temps dropped down. Plan on used a shop-vac, jack daniels, and a frenchie. Ill be taking by euro rod, dry rod and streamer rod, but the dry and streamer rods are only if i get really bored. Either way, should be a good day.

Suck the water out of the stream with the shop vac, drink the Jack Daniel’s and then get it on with your Frenchie! Oo la la! That’s fishing.

I use both but prefer to tye them in purple w/ & w/o a beadhead. W/o a beadhead, they swim in the 1-3 foot range off a floating line & w/ a beadhead, they swim 5-9 feet deep.

No weight? Why not?
@MainelyFlies

Classical style, You can always add weight like the second one or use some wire wraps if needed. The only time I skip adding weight is when I have a sink tip on the fly line or when I’m using my spey rod. It’s always good to have a variety of choices for the various conditions and techniques.

I’ve always thought the long hackle on the “traditional” wooly worm / wooly bugger was weird. More than a decade ago I began just using crystal chenille for the body with either just a couple of wraps behind the head or no hackle at all. Still catches! #flies
