I teach a whole series of flies for kids learning to tie based on this pattern. I often drop the wing in the beginning or use pheasant tail. By adding a bead, a tinsel tag or a deer hair tail (or both), a floss throat, or a CDC hackle they get to create an infinite variety of patterns that work!
