i remember when i was small, living in Poland, i think it was like early nineties, everything still gray and ugly after communism have fallen, and we had this gospel concert in church, when some gospel band from america came. I think that was the first time i ever saw black person. Watching those big fat americans, many of them so exotic looking, all in shiny robes, singing gospel, MAN, THAT WAS SIMPLY OTHER-WORDLY, especially when you know how polish catholic church service normally looks like.

+ malejajim10111 Sorry for taking 3 years. The church is in your heart and mind. Jeremiah 31:31-34 The LORD said: The time will surely come when I will make a new agreement with the people of Israel and Judah. 32 It will be different from the agreement I made with their ancestors when I led them out of Egypt. Although I was their God, they broke that agreement. 33 Here is the new agreement that I, the Lord, will make with the people of Israel: “I will write my laws on their hearts and minds. I will be their God, and they will be my people. 34 “No longer will they have to teach one another to obey me. I, the LORD, promise that all of them will obey me, ordinary people and rulers alike. I will forgive their sins and forget the evil things they have done.”

I wonder why so many people of dark skinned and are Christian than the those who are white are not so much loving and forgiving. While I am a white person viewing why so many white people that have been wronged are calling for execution. What the hell is wrong with us?

Their surname is Coen, not Cohen. But you are right. I am Czech, I have travelled a lot but I prefer Latin America. Have only spent two nights in the USA. In Czechia there are no black people. We have immigrants from Vietnam and Ukraine (now even more). So, black music doesn´t have a tradition here. Thanks to movies like this one I discovered gospel. O Brother, Where Art Thou? had a similar impact. Both movies take me to a world I have not been to. Coens are very popular with certain audiences over here, but while O Brother, Where Art Thou? is known to them, almost nobody knows The Ladykillers

Just sent to me "I did not, when a slave, fully understand the deep meaning of those rude and apparently incoherent songs. I was, myself, within the circle, so that I could then neither hear nor see as those without might see and hear. They breathed the prayer and complaint of souls overflowing with the bitterest anguish. They depressed my spirits and filled my heart with ineffable sadness...The remark in the olden time was not unfrequently made, that slaves were the most contented and happy laborers in the world, and their dancing and singing were referred to in proof of this alleged fact; but it was a great mistake to suppose them happy because they sometimes made those joyful noises. The songs of the slaves represented their sorrows, rather than their joys. Like tears, they were a relief to aching hearts." Frederick Douglass This is great next to the middle-east!!
