Anytime things on TCG player sell for FAR less than market, it’s bullshit. Plain and simple. An EVS bb went for $705 2 weeks ago, it’s going for $715 today. The price is only going up still.

Easy reminder for beginner: In summer there is always the "summer hole" where people mostly spend their money for other stuff than pokemon cards. But I've seen many markets, but none is as easy as the TCG market... I will not give out all informations, but you will see the following: - July/August (falling prices) - ppl spend money on summer stuff - September/October (tanking prices) - people must save money - November/December (prices going back up) - people again have some money and want to spend it. You're welcome!

Theres a 1 year support level at $500, theres a short term 2-3 month support level at $680. Supply has increased and entered the market at the 700+ level so dont be surprised to see boxes fall below this level for awhile. The short term $200 increase in the past 5 months would need consolidation between these levels to, as supply would increase at such a move. Last time we had a $200+ move without any sell off or major dips we consolidated for 1 year before the current move we had to $700 in the past few months.

Honestly expected this to happen and I’m happy for a lot of collectors out there looking to buy because even 500$ is still wild. I’m sitting on 11 boxes still and bought at 150$ a box or less. It’s time for Pokémon swsh boxes to show a more honest representation of their value. I feel 3-400$ is probably a more accurate value. Been waiting on a big drop to continue buying alt arts too. This is happening on many different things across tcgplayer. Its a fkrm of scam where people will make a new seller account and post fake low prices. The buyer isnt allowed to file a claim for 4 weeks (after shipping times out). TCGPlayer needs to do something about this because its ridiculous

$500 is what it's worth to me. The odds of breaking even at that price are slim. I've opened 6 boxes in the past 6 months and card value wise I didn't even recuperate for 1 box

opening most boxes you wont recuperate your money back, unless you get a bit lucky. would you rather open evolving skies for $700, or evolutions for $850? or team up for $2800? I think you get the point. The sealed item itself becomes the collectible not the value of cards you hit on average per box.

Unpopular opinion: as the market continues to crash as unemployment and housing inventory skyrockets and crash, most if not all pokemon singles and sealed product will crash semi-permanently, meaning for a 10-year period minimum like it did in 02. Evolving Skies and Team Up are the posterchildren of the artificial FOMO rise in values, so I genuinely see those crashing at the largest percentages. I'd estimate sealed Evolving Skie box to hit $250 again and Team Up somewhere around the $400 mark, by next year.

@@Robdoespokemon People call it doom and gloom, but I bought a home in 2009 for 65% off 2007 values 1 mile from the beach in Florida just by looking at the math. Homes in 2007 were 4.9X the median income. Today, they're 6.8X the median income here in the US and I know this is a global phenomenon because all of our governments handed out roughly equal amounts of "free" money in 2020-2021. We're all in the same bubble, and Germany, Japan and China are leading the charge in that they've already declared catastrophic unemployment and recession. We're all just a step behind them.

they did the same strategy for eevee heroes in japan..pushing prices to 35k yen (with fabricated reprint rumors )and when people realized there were selling at a "steal" price, it rebounded back to previous levels and probably will be heading to higher highs. People probably see evolving skies going to 1.5k or above in years to come so they will accumulate a huge position at 500 (by the way you need only two to set up prices, a buyer and his buddy , and only lose in commissions which peanuts with the potential gains they can make). The smart sellers are selling slowly and on a long period for weak sets, they won't do that with evolving skies which is probably an iconic and historic set, probably the best ever printed, a crown jewel for pokemon.

It's really too bad that the prices on TCG player can't be trusted, at least for more modern and higher-volume sought after items, due to market manipulation. I get the temptation to snip their trends charts, etc. into your content because so recognizable and the information is presented in such a clear-cut manner... but how bout you devise some bespoke exhibits that allow for the analysis of data from multiple platforms? I'm sure you'd agree, to my point, that recent sales on eBay are a better predictor of current prices and trends, especially if coupled or combined with data from sites that may INCLUDE TCG Player, such as PSA. You are fast becoming a go-to for collectors focused on the investment side of the Pokemon TCG. "With great power ..." I don't want to sounds at all like a scold. I love your content and really appreciate the research and editing that MUST go into your jewel-like posts. I've been in the hobby for a few years with my now 10 y/o son and I don't recall there ever being someone as consistently entertaining and informative in the space - Danny Phantump does some good work though esp re pull rates and through his unique perspective as a business owner. Love the crass sophistication too - very shrewd and often very funny. I'll end with a content idea, one that I don't think gets NEAR enough attention - the Play! Pokemon Prize Pack series. What do you think about collecting them - singles, yes, but really sealed packs - as a long term investment? There's some ethical trickiness surrounding how they are often acquired, but then there's also their relative rarity compared to, say, the billions of EVOLVING SKIES packs churned out over the Swish(!) period, or their obvious but still interesting comparability and contrast with the POP series. And so on. I'll leave it there. Great work and may it continue for as long as your spouse permits!! :)

Been through this with a couple of people today and I have still to see any proof that all of these sales are loose packs. The ebay sales are 100% NOT loose packs. Anybody can see that--including the one at just over $500. Loose packs are noted as such on the descriptions in tcgplayer and the highest listed currently is 499.99.
