e-Den The Citroen Mehari of the Future | The 2CV Shop

The e-Den made by Mehari Club Cassis and brought to the UK by The 2CV Shop. Is this a car for the UK or the underpinnings of something more exciting?

The Mehari was available between 1968 and 1988 and found it's way all over the world for various uses but it has always remained a common sight on the roads of Southern France, where you will see them driving to the beach and around resorts. They have remained a enthusiasts vehicle since they stopped production. That is until now. A battery and a motor from Zero Motorcycles has reinvigorated this vehicle. Although this one is a prototype the production models are available to buy.

Thanks Ryan. It knocks the socks off the Renault Twizy! The quoted range has to be a pipe dream, with only a 10 kWh battery, but give it 25 kWh, maybe using that 'boot' space, and you'd have a go-anywhere Summer vehicle. I truly hope that they attain their goal of producing an electric version of the 'Deux Chevaux'; they were always quirky, but somehow endearing runabouts. Oddly, despite their basic nature and uncomfortable rear seats, I miss seeing them.

I like the idea to build classic cars in our times. And even with an electric motor! By the way: Citroen is building modern E-Mehari cars. Lots of plastic instead of the classic metal. You can remove the roof panels.

@@EVOpinion yes, It looks as if they covered everything in those panels. Without any metal parts in between. But it makes sense for this car. It is like a car for (rich) young people. Or for rental on a warm holiday island.

Cheers Ryan, it looks like a fun car to drive but as you said better suited for the warmer climate. However it does beg the question as to whether there is a market for a basic, cheap, short range electric transport that can be used in and around town. Just returned from a trip to Valencia and was surprised to see the number of folk using electric scooters - both the Vespa types and the ones you simply stand on. The latter were confined to cycle lanes and it would be fair to say there were more of these than cycles.

+ EV Opinion: The thing to do is to have _the right people_ invite them to bring it to FC Live, EV's In The Park, and maybe also the Transport Museum event which you mentioned in a recent video. They might be very interested in doing those things, which would raise brand awareness significantly, for very little financial outlay.
