Not all 14-50 outlets are equal. Most of the big box versions are geared toward ranges and dryers which are not only intermittent loads, but are not engineered to be plugged and unplugged often. An industrial rated Bakelite outlet is far safer for the load profile of an electric vehicle charger. The hardwired to the panel solution is a safer bet as even licensed installers and inspectors aren’t yet familiar with the problems that are cropping up with consumer level 14-50 hardware.

Could this be why the dual-level portable charger that I use at home chargers for like 20 minutes now and then cuts off? The plug still has power, but the charger just stops charger, also the 40 amp breaker gets pretty hot, BUT I checked the volts and have about 238-240 volts and did the single test, and running 119 per. Could the plug be tripping the charger because of heat? But not trip the breaker? I also reset the breaker thinking that's what starts the charger back.

Is the image of the man holding the device at 4: 56 a Level 2 plug or a Level 1 plug? (it look's like a regular 110 Household plug, but the image is oversized so I'm not sure )
