Recorded live in Feb 2015, With The San Antonio Symphony, Rachel Ferris, Harp, and maestra Akiko Fujimoto.
When David Gross, our CEO at the time called to offer me to play a concerto in our annual Beeville residency I was flattered but also a bit worried: We had very little rehearsal time for such things, and music for my instrument will never be familiar to my colleagues in advance of the first rehearsal.
Enter the music of Eric Ewazen: Not only did I get to play some pretty melodies, but I got to play a beautiful piece of music that our string players could appreciate and enjoy (I hope!), and as a bonus featured the beautiful harp playing of Rachel Ferris. Having a former trombone player as a conductor: That happened too!
FOR TROMBONE DORKS: Make sure and check out Mr. Ewazen's original version of this work here: • Ballade for Clarinet, ...
I tried to incorporate some of his Clarinet writing into my approach to his solo part: Certainly a good challenge and one I enjoyed!
