When Dr King was assassinated Wilt Chamberlain and Bill Russell had a meeting to decide whether the Sixers and the Celtics were going to play a playoff game that night. It's awfully funny that players can decide to boycott a game for a just cause and they get scrutinized while a government can boycott the Olympics and the players have no choice. Isiah Thomas and Mark Aguire lost a chance to have an Olympic gold medal in basketball in 1980 when this country boycotted those Olympics that were going to be held in Moscow. That thing with sports being separated from politics was lost during theJoe Louis /Max Schmeling fights. Both fighters were used as pawns for their respective governments. As a Bulls fan, I loved Hodges when he played for us. I get what he is saying, but there are levels to the political game while being a professional. A professional athlete's "platform" doesn't truly belong to them. They think they have ownership, but in reality they don't. Today's athletes parlay their political activism to push their brand and they have a VERY supportive media engine behind them (including a political party). Lebron's political motivations were constantly supported by the media because it was SJW nonsense. But when the China stuff happened, he got exposed. MJ was smart enough to use his success to become a billionaire and support who he likes behind the scenes. Athletes can go out and support whatever cause or politician that they see fit, but when you bring it to work and act out in front of the fans, you should expect push back.

This is for the young generation that are unaware how the rift between Michael Jordan and Craig Hodges came about. Back in the day young brother's & Sisters wanted to wear Michael Jordan sneakers, But the prices were to high and they couldn't afford Mike's sneakers. The backlash & Consequences was JACKING and Killing over Mike's sneakers in Chicago. Craig Hodges is Muslim and thought Mike should ask nike to lower the price of the shoes to make them affordable for black kids, But mike didnt ask nike to lower the prices and kids kept jacking & Getting killed over Jordan brand shoes. The real beef is Craig Hodges is a spiritual brotha who wanted to fight for black poor people intrest and Jordan is a capitalist to make a long story short. Craig Hodges was a 3 times defending champion 3 point shooter, But after he got in the beef with Michael Jordan he was cut from the nba league and no nba team picked him up after he won two championship titles with the Chicago bulls. My opinion is, we live in times where spirituality and doing the right things will not triumph over making profits & capitalism and this is the great divide between moral vs. Immoral. There is an old question, " Can you do the right thing when no one is looking", because this is the very essence of living a good righteous life.

Sounds like craig should've made his own affordable shoe instead of depending on mj to feel how he felt and to do what he wanted him to do.

You sound real bitter, Jordan didn’t have to involve himself with politics. He was smart. Look at where you are right now and look at where he is.

It's very disappointing that you guys are bashing MJ for thinking for himself. His skin color doesnt make him a Democrat or Republican. Ever thought maybe he is conservative but is afraid to admit it because people would tear him apart.
