Ex Bus Eireann Bombardier coach KE35

Driving through the Irish countryside in Preserved Ex-Bus Eireann Bombardier KE35. This bus is one of only two around today. Both are connected with the Transport Enthusiasts Club.
KE35 is restored in tour coach configuration with luxury trim.
It is powered by a Detroit 6V-71 with Allison V730 3 - speed transmission. It shares the same units as its Decker brother the KD. Differential ratios are different to the KD allowing faster cruising speed. The Last of the KEs were withdrawn in 1997.
Both KE35 and KE14 are run regularly.

Fantastic, absolutely mesmerising sound. Much respect to all those responsible for KE35's preservation. The sound of the engine at full power accelerating into the distance is so similar to the English Electric Class 55 Deltic locomotives used by British Rail on the East Coast main line between London and Edinburgh between 1961-81. Although the only similarity between the Napier Deltic and General Motors V6 engines is that they're both diesel and two-stroke, it's uncanny how similar they sound under certain conditions. Reminds me of a time I lived in Éire in 1987/88 and had an orgy of G.M. two-strokes, with MG-class Bus Éireann coaches all over the roads and E.M.D.- powered locos. all over the rails; utterly glorious and memorable! Only the 071s left now in national service, with the 201-class interest well down the list owing to the "Euro-bore" standards on exhaust noise having been applied. D.Ds. nearly gone in U.K. but a few lifeboats left with twin 6V-92TAs; fantastic din!
