YAAAY, thank you. :) You made it so simple. I looked at loads of other sites and they all waffled on and on, making things unnecessarily complicated.

100% represents the original price. If there is a 40% discount then you are paying 100%- 40% or 60% of the original price.

To get percent off an original price you change the percent to a decimal and multiply it by the original price. So if you have 300 as your original price and you have it at a discount of 40% off, you multiply 300 by .40. That should give you a discount of $120.

PLEASE ANSWER THIS QUESTION: Mel is saving for an overseas trip. Her taxable income is usually about $20000. She estimates that she will need $5000 for her trip so she is going to do some extra work to raise the money. How much extra will Mel need to earn in order to save he extra $5000 after tax?
@Texaca6 жыл бұрын
hmmm.., whatever the answer is, H&R Block or Hewitt Jackson will end up screwing up Mel's tax returns. lol Tell Mel get a side Gig, make sure it pays in CASH, and never -- I mean never report your tips or cash earnings to the IRS. You'll never get anywhere reporting your true earnings, or using the IRS tax codes, they are designed to keep poor, ie: the working class

I'm 54 yo, and I still hate word problems. I never understood them, and was never taught properly. It's what happens, when you get over looked or stigmatized by society, because you've been "pegged" into a particular group or class of people.

Why am I getting 200 when I times the .40 from 500? I thought it was supposed to be 300?
@Mathispower4u Жыл бұрын
0.40(500) = 200 is correct, but this is the amount of the discount. The question asks for the original price, which you can find by 500-200=300. The other option is if the discount is 40% then you pay 60%. 0.60(500)=300.
