The Harlem 30 Crips are a notorious hood on the west side of South Central. He came to Los Angeles in 1979 when the Crips began having wars against one another(Gangster Crips vs Nayborhood Crips). That same year the founder Raymond Washington was killed. That was a huge change for a country boy to come into the hub of gangbanging, South Central Los Angeles, as a teenager. He's in good shape because in prison you have to program. That often includes a daily workout regimen. It's not only for their physical health but more so for their mental health, to have a routine. He's just maintained it outside of prison. I'm happy to hear he's off papers. He'll kick the habit when he's mentally ready and sick of all the bullshit.

He’s not lying about the guards at Corcoran staging fights, I remember hearing about that on the news YEARS ago, google “california prison fight betting”. It was back in the 90s. They called it “gladiator days” and it used to be a ritual that was well known, inmates would bet on it too and the guys would look forward to the fights because they were already enemies. Things were way different back then, before all these cell phones and cameras everywhere California was insane. People got away with stuff you wouldn’t even believe.

just for the record, this wasn't just back in the 90s. it goes on today at corcoran SHU. CO's will let SHU programmers out for "yard" (if you can call it that, it's really just a cell with extremely high walls open to the sky above) - but what they'd do would be to release people who have to get down with each other on sight, due to prison politics. this could be a northerner and a southerner, a black and a white, etc. they do this intentionally, and gamble on the winner. again though, this is happening as i write this. it never ended. same goes for california youth authority. gladiator fights never ended.
