Ever fantasise about quitting the 9-to-5 daily grind? We sit down with Ashok Samuel - an ex GIC Head of Private Equity Risk who actually took the plunge and retired early.
After doing the grind for over 30 years to climb the corporate ladder at his firm, Ashok realised the never-ending rat race just wasn't for him. Hear his open and honest story about hitting that wall, embracing a totally different lifestyle, and carefully mapping out life after exiting the finance world.
From wrestling with feelings of anger and denial, to redefining what "success" really means to him - Ashok doesn't hold back about the tough challenges and mindset shifts required to retire with purpose.
He even dishes on some awkward retirement adjustment moments, like when one retiree bluntly told him "being apart is what kept my marriage together for 30 years!" Yikes!
So how did Ashok and his wife smooth out their "remerging" as empty-nesters? And what surprising twists, unexpected joys and detours has he discovered beyond the office grind?
This refreshingly candid chat is a must-listen for anyone daydreaming about downshifting from the corporate hustle. Ashok's hard-earned insights may just inspire you to rethink your "one life to live" philosophy.
Tune in to get a real, unvarnished look at life after retiring from the corporate fast track. You might be surprised by what you hear!
00:00 Introduction
08:37 How did accepting your career plateau impact your life and career?
09:43 How did you plan for retirement after coming to terms with your career plateau?
13:55 How do you decide on your retirement activities?
17:07 How did your retirement plans evolve over time, considering the uncertainty inherent in projecting ten years into the future?
18:48 How did you plan financially for retirement? Did you implement any financial methods?
20:30 From your perspective, how should individuals approach financial planning for retirement?
27:00 What were your portfolio plans given the "right-sizing" situation with accumulated assets and reliance on investment income over active earnings?
31:37 What's your take: traditional balanced portfolios or simpler strategies with index funds for long-term growth?

Let me say the obvious. No matter what the mic stand brand may be, it is ugly and would not prevent vibrations from the table. Perhaps the mic stand is used wrongly. Pls do not embarrass the speaker and future guests with such an ugly mic stand.
