I have pretended to be an interested person when witnesses come to my door. I even studied with a lovely lady. I almost felt guilty for not telling her that I was raised a JW and left at 25. But I was able to plant so many ideas in her mind just by allowing her to study with me. As a study, we are able to ask so many more questions and express doubts about the material we are being shown. I feel like there is more of a chance to reach a witness by being an “interested” one. Of course, this would only work if you live far enough outside of your original territory so that anyone who comes to your door, or anyone they might bring to the study, wouldn’t recognize you.

You've got to realize that the organisation is doing the job by themselves of waking up their own believers. Since they started JW Broadcasting and televangelism, each convention has had videos that caused intelligent ones to start waking up and asking questions. For me, the seeds of waking up started with that one where they blatantly showed disfellowshipping and parents shunning their only daughter as "an act of love." I looked around the audience like, is this what we are showing nowadays to first-time attendees to our conventions? What is happening to the organisation in which I grew up? My final straw was the convention about the great Tribulation, showing the b0nk9r videos. That's when I went, that's it! So let them keep it up. They are inadvertently waking up more people each year.

I've had a fading out since I was a teenager after my grandma died. I'm 26 now and waking up from it all it feels really good but I get so much anxiety from the thought of losing my family members that I love to death. It's also frustrating my parents are sucked into the black and white view of everything. There isn't any ounce of open mindedness in them. It's JW or the highway... I finally recently opened up to them about a month ago on my doubts and how I really feel but ofcourse they point to apostate thinking but they don't even understand that I've been thinking these things before ever looking into all this stuff. But it's funny how witnesses are trained to act so quickly when they sense that a believer is doubting or questioning things they jump to the conclusion of apostasy. So it basically discredits all my doubts as unreasonable. I'm just glad that there are others that understand and that I'm not completely alone in this.

Pete, I am very impressed and moved by your altruistic desire to help! Good for you. I’m thinking you could probably start with a Bible study and avoid actually becoming an unbaptized publisher for quite a while. That way you can still socialize and speak with a lot of Witnesses without having to actively participate in preaching. I’m faded, but I have JW friends in many states and countries who don’t know I’m an unbeliever. I’ve been trying to help anyone I can by sowing seeds of doubt through video chat, text & email. I must tell you, it’s not easy. Mostly I get cut off very quickly, but a few people are continuing to listen and a couple have actually woken up. It is very rewarding even if you can only do a little.

I’m 66 too and it was so tumultuous and painful before I could clearly see my way out I cannot envision myself ever going back even for curiosity. I think before doing such a thing you should take good stock of why you would go back, and have a clear understanding of your objective in doing so. Do the benefits of doing such a thing outweigh the potential dangers. I know in my situation I lost a lot of time by being active in the Bible Students. Time I could have used in pursuing things that have value in my life. Cults have an insidious way of getting into your head and before you know it they have you seeing things their way. You somehow got out of a venomous snake pit , why jump back in?

Reading some of the comments posted it would seem that most people advise 'Pete' not to go down this route, however well intentioned. I initially felt it was a good idea because that is perhaps similar to how I would want to do, but on reflection I think the majority are correct and it is something you should not subject yourself to. Perhaps it is better just persuing this by supporting others who like Lloyd, openly challenge the JW cult without resorting to less 'palatable' underground infilitration. Especially now with Splane et al really obssessed with apostates and those in the congegations being 'suspect' perhaps. I think they are probably highly alert to this these days and it would not work for long.

I wouldn’t do it. You’d be earning these people’s trust under false pretenses and with an ulterior motive. Escaping from a lie shouldn’t be built on the foundation of another lie. Plus it sounds like something the stereotypical “apostate” would do, and is just as likely to backfire as to work.

I have to agree. His motive is noble, but honesty is the best way. He could make his own channel or create a website if he wants to be an activist. If he "infiltrated" a jw congregation and was found out, it would only confirm their worst ideas about apostates and other "wordly" people.

Hi Lloyd found your channel recently after your Beeb appearance pleased you escaped. The answer to this persons question would be No. I have never been a witness but I claim the longest bible study 1962 to1984 started a ministry in 84 still going strong today, our tracts have and do go all over the world. Today the WT is falling apart the fantasy they preach is very clever but long term they are dead in the water. I am a Christian and when the opportunity occurs I am on there case I have after many years of learning, and making mistakes developed an approach to them that is unusual. So best wishes to you all. We are an English based ministry.

I've never been a JW or in any cult, but I imagine one serious hardship with this strategy, would be that you will build up a rapport with people and end up with serious JW friends. It will be similar, if not the same as wanting to leave but being entrapped by loyalty. Get disfellowshiped, and you become a victim of ostracism by/from your new friends.

I seriously considered getting reinstated so my mother could talk to me and she wanted us to take a road trip to visit places she and my father (whom I never knew) visited/dated. I thought it through carefully and realized that to be convincing I would have to go to all the meetings, door to door, and sneak about to maintain my "real" life. There was just no way I could have pulled that off. Not to mention my mother was a toxic person so what was the pay off?

Harriet Tubman lived out of the slave states while she made her daring exodus raids back in. She did not move back. Being actually in involves too much accepting of their seeds and missing of your seeding moments. In all of life, not just cults, staying in any peer pressured environment is like that. That's why personal liberty always depends on having some unsiciable emotional independence from the first available peer group. You are only ever on top when you are just making quick raids in and out, not staying in. In this case, that means keeping your view on your sticking point issues ckear enough and expressed enough, never hidden, that you never get in. You never get dedicated or take on long term meeting going. You can be an interested person, you can do a study if they tolerate you keeping your own sticking point views during it, you can visit a couple of meetings on a see-what-think basis. But you reject all the nagging to continue meetings, you hold to a line that it's unacceptable to you to take on and become subject to the disfellowshipping system. You demand detailed verified info on its nature that they can't give you, to show you it's not like exactly what you know it is like, :) and you demand a demonstrated explanation of how, if any of the info is not kept to, you could get anyone at meetings to listen to you about it + not run away from the conversation. This is all entirely reasonable for any thinking + careful interested person to ask them for, but is impossible + would bust the control system for them ever to give you it: hence its certain outcome is of not joining.

"Depends"? "Worth it"? It doesn't depend and it wouldn't be worth it, but that shouldn't even be an issue. We apostates should uphold the highest standards of integrity, critical thinking and respect. That's the best way to shine a light on the fraudulence of this cult. Descending to their levels of manipulation wouldn't work anyway, you would eventually be rumbled and then you would reinforce all the prejudices JWs have for us. When I left I did nothing to persuade my wife and children and kept back much of what I had learned. She left because she could not stomach the ostracism and shunning I received. She saw it as fundamentally un-Christian. Let the truth do its work.

I think it's a waste of time to do personal undercover in the organization, the best way to wake people up is open activism like Lloyd. The best fighting tactic is with transparency, since the GB accuses apostates of being sneaky and stuff. So when you face them head on openly, you can prove them wrong even more time and time again.

I think that there might be other things that "Pete" can do besides rejoining the JW Organization to try and get Witnesses to question their beliefs. Rejoining the Organization might not end with good results. As Lloyd has said, "Pete" would be expected to evangelize and promote the JW faith to other people in his community, a faith that he personally no longer believes in. If caught trying to plant seeds of doubt to anyone in a JW congregation, "Pete" could end up being disfellowshipped and shunned. I'd politely recommend that "Pete", if he is able to, considers trying another tactic to get Witnesses to question the Watchtower Society's doctrines besides returning to the Organization.
@b.w.7588
@b.w.7588 3 жыл бұрын
I think its interesting to hear stories of other ex-JWs who left the Organization before the existence of the Internet. "Pete" was rather fortunate in that his parents weren't heavily devout Witnesses, which worked to his advantage where he was able to enroll as a college student at a university and was able to pursue a career that allowed him to travel through his work and experience the world outside the Organization. I find it interesting that he exchanged letters with Raymond Franz before his death. I do think that the Organization feels threatened by apostates, and it seems odd. I can't think of very many Christian denominations that really care what former members think or have to say about their religious community. On a more light note: if you think about it...if ex-JW apostates didn't exist, who would the JWs have to argue with?

I think the best thing to do is what you're already doing, going after the leaders in a way that means you never stoop to their level. After all the governing body has been saying recently about apostates, it's quite clear to me that the combined efforts we make is proving to be a real thorn in the flesh, as it were...

Perhaps this guy has time on his hands that he doesn't mind sharing for a cause that he feels is important. If he can stay totally awake during the mission, go for it and put a time frame on it. But he may find forming a close relationship may not be as easy since they are not at a hall. They are in groups behind a zoom camera. But individual connections are still possible via a study.

I actually loved this question, as I've often thought of doing something similar myself. You didn't touch on the fact that some people are VERY GOOD at 'evangelism' and spreading the 'good news'... LOL for me, the good news is the freedom that came with getting out, and I have a knack for speaking eloquently and convincingly about the things I'm "evangelizing" about. I've often thought about reverse-indoctrination. I get that the caller feels like getting back in (infiltrating) would give him access to a crowd who would otherwise never listen to him speak. I highly doubt he would ever go door to door because those folks don't need deconverting. He's talking about those in, who might just need a little help getting out. I think it's a great idea for a certain personality type!

Only you can answer that. But, to be honest you can't help anyone get out. They can only do that, on their own. They will only get angry at you. You won't be able to show them anything. They won't believe you. You can't show them anything. You can't tell them anything. If you try, don't expect results. You will just be frustrated. I don't even try. I don't talk about it, unless they ask me. When they start getting angry I say, you asked. If you don't want to hear, don't ask.

Pete I am the same age group after 65yrs faded not awake then. I think it would be nearly impossible they are extremely guarded now at the hint of questions you are aquised of being an Apostle even if you get one who is easier to talk the elders will want to know everything. I know a couple generally interested were frightened off. It's not like it use to be much more pusher and everything revolves around Armageddon, Armageddon, Armageddon no conversation without it even one's I've known who were easy going have became very pushy about Armageddon. Years ago a few were pushy but now it will shock you. Before I faded I believed many our age were waking up though conversations were questioning things that were happening especially regarding the blood change. But now you can't speak about your doubts or have question it's now apostasy so they are extremely guarded not prepared to loss their spouse, children in fact everyone as I have done. If you do have fun but remember it was always safe guard your heart now it's always safe guard your freedom at all cost

It won’t work. As soon as you try to begin telling others about what you know, they will tell on you and they will watch you and try to volunteer you for giving answers at the wt study and so on. Once the elders smell that you might have woken up they won’t leave you alone. In other words : it’s useless!

I would say that's a terrible idea. It could very well be the guy lying to himself and the draw of the hooks is really what he is after.

No No No “Pete”, you would get wheedled out in a very short space of time . .... and as Lloyd said how would be able to go knocking on doors and putting in a time sheet , in all good conscience. Much better to casually talk to people you find ,asking them questions in a way that won’t offend, just give them something to think about. . I know what I’m talking about. , been disfellowshiped at age 80, just for asking questions, and not acccepting their answers. 🤨🧐🤓

No don`t go back! the old testament rule "eye for an eye" doesn`t exist anymore.. i mean: i believe that Jesus don't want this kind of actions. (if you still believe in Jesus) i mean: respect yourself and others. be kind to them and pray for them..

Unless you are so absolutely bored and you have already accomplished everything you have ever wanted to do in life, this sounds like a waste of your time. I have even considered this myself. Although I chuckle and really enjoy exposing ass clowns for what they are, I just couldn't stomach going through the motions. It would only serve as a cringe stamina exercise. About 12 years ago, I was invited back after about 20 years away. At the time I was POMIish. It was so weird and has gotten weirder since. The love bombing I mistook as genuine quickly switched to soft shunning the second I asked the elder that was trying to recapture me a question about their current policy/practice on shunning. My sister was baptized as a child but left to join a traditional church cult later in life. She is shunned by my very PIMI mother. I was hoping to find my mom an avenue or loophole to talk with my sister or at least spark some thought on the subject...no dice. Maybe if some of them see you living your best life they will wake themselves up.
