When I was around 4-8 years old I did the exact same thing almost, followed my sister into the big pool cause I saw her from the baby pool. I swear, I can remember seeing myself as if I was drifting from my body, everything was in slow motion and then from that point I remember nothing apart from waking up with a bag of crisps that I had already started to eat before I started remembering stuff again. Apparently my sister screamed that I was drowning and some random man jumped in and pulled me out, think the lifeguard was distracted by something, but I swear, if my sister hadn’t alerted people and that man hadn’t jumped in to save me... I wouldn’t be alive right now. I genuinely owe my sister and some random man at a resort in Spain my life.

This kind of thing reminds me of my dad who wasn't a lifeguard but he was a firefighter, I've talked to him about his experiences before, questions like have you ever nearly died and have any of your friends died, I must have been at least ten (which was why I didn't consider how my questions could have made him have flashbacks or something like that) but I remember his answer was yes and also yes, he told me that once a roof caved in on him but he was just lucky, if I remember correctly I think he also told me that one of his friends got caught on some wire of some sort (I cant really remember what kind) which made the wall collapse and the fire bursted into the room and I am sure you can imagine how it ended, it was a while ago he told me this so I cant remember in much detail, but its things like that that make me realise how much people like lifeguards, soldiers, firemen and other people in those sort of jobs have to go through.

I am a 17 yearold lifeguard and assistant (swimming) teacher. One day (when I was 15) I turned around to take off my lifeguard shirt, so I could go into the water with the kids (they were around fours years old) and two children ran into the deep pool. I heard a scream from another lifeguard behind me and turned to the pool. I saw the two children under water. I quickly got them out and put them on a little bench. They were crying and I wanted to cry too, but I had take care of them. I felt so guilty and irresponsible. Drowning is not what it looks like in the movies. These children sank straight to the bottom and they were so quiet and helpless. Thank god they were okay, because it would have fucked me up if one didn't survive.

The first thing I did after watching this was cuddle my 3 kiddies, I'm so glad the wee girl survived, it just shows how quick kids can get away and into serious danger, it's so true that you need eyes in the back of your head! I personally think first aid and cpr etc should be taught in schools from as early as poss, I have to admit I'm useless in emergencies, I'm that idiot that panics and ends up making things worse. Knowledge can be life saving.

I'm a little late to this video, but wow. This was intense. I work in addictions/social work and I couldn't imagine the damage witnessing a child receiving CPR, let alone having a mother there shrieking. Witnessing a grown man overdosing and being given CPR was absolutely brutal. No one talks about how disturbing, or ...graphic CPR looks when actually being performed. The persons body looks/moves unnaturally; it's gross. I can't imagine and hope to never experience seeing a child in a similar scenario. Also, Jordan, I can tell by how you looked when you shared this, that the mothers screams are still impactful, and I just wish you some peace of mind from those feelings that come about when you think about it. I still hear the dude's gf crying and begging us to do something...blah.

I am a Lifeguard, and thankfully nothing like this has happened to us since I started (2 years) and we all do training, but we always say we never know how we will respond to something like this.

I’m a lifeguard and 17 years old and you do think if something like this was too happen you would be ok but it’s really not, today I was in work and the drowning alarm went off and I’m new and I’ve never had to deal with it before and just running to the pool I was ready but very nervous and worried about what I could’ve saw but luckily a woman had leaned on the alarm so it was a false alarm, very serious when stuff like that happens, and great video 👍

When I was a child, about 5 or 6, I was on holiday in France and some local kids pushed me in the pool and ran off. I couldn't swim. I still remember fighting against the water and looking up at the surface. A teenage girl jumped in and saved me and performed (I think) CPR. The image of the surface of the pool looking up from the bottom is burned into my memory.

There’s some lasses who are like 15 who work at the swimming baths near my house and honestly if something like that happened they would probably won’t do anything they’ll end up running off to tell someone

I was once in Amsterdam with my best mate and he randomly stopped breathing and had no pulse, I was never sure how I'd react in such a situation, especially because I was extremely high but I handled it perfectly and even managed to catch him before his head hit the floor, luckily just as I was about to start chest compressions (after confirming he wasnt breathing and had no pulse) I saw his face twitch and then his face started going back from white to pink but he was out for 45 seconds to a minute, cut to me laying beside him for about 30 seconds while I switched gears, good thing I was in Amsterdam to help me get over it.

When I was a kido, simular thing happened to me, but I was lucky to get hold onto some womans leg and she picked me up. I know she didnt see me under the water, and that I was lucky that she was walking and not swimming, but Im stil grateful that I'm alive.

id say the lifeguard on duty is responsible too! they should be scanning the pool constantly and should have noticed a body at the bottom of the pool

Owen Campbell you don’t know who the life guard is and you leave your 4 year old child in there by theme self being watch maybe by someone who isn’t paying attention and is not looking around and taking their job seriously due to them being in their late teens

I was a lake guard and only had to take part in one real rescue (actually when I was 16). Fortunately everyone turned out fine, but that stays with you.

Two years ago I found my neighbour hanging in my apartment lobby from the stairs. I'll never forget the way his eyes looked and how purple & swelled up his hands were. I freaked the fuck out. I always thought id kick into action and act right in that situation but i was a bloody shivering mess. I got a knife and cut him down but the rope was _so_ taut the second I put the knife to it he dropped and fell on top of me. I tried CPR but i was too freaked out and I don't think i had the rhythm right. Also him falling on me made me fall and injure my shoulder so i was having trouble orienting myself. His heart was very very faint but it was still too late. He died at the hospital. I always think if i had walked out a few minutes earlier, or handled it better or got the 911 call faster... he'd still be alive. My cat was meowing , meowing, meowing incessantly at the door that morning too & I couldn't figure out why. I just kept telling him to shut up... maybe had i been more perceptive I could've caught it faster. The last thing he probably ever heard was me yelling shut up to my cat. I know it doesn't do a lot of good to do the what it's, the shoulda, coulda, woulda but it's hard not too. But yeah I fully understand having that imagery just ingrained into your mind. Everytime there's a noose or hanging or anything mentioned in movies or tv it comes back to me (and its in movies A LOT, lol).
