I been experimenting with different ads & platforms from google to thumbtack & a few others. I can't quite put my finger on which one is actaully most helpful they all seem pretty weak for this field. I'm in a major market also so it's pretty surprising. Ive been thinking forever that the leads were fake on tt & others put how could you prove it then boom this leaks. It's a good time for me to narrowing things down.

I inquired about The Knot's pricing earlier this year and the entire process of speaking with a sales rep just left me feeling suspicious. I genuinely just wanted to get a quote for the current pricing but let them know I would be out of the country for the next month. They ended up skirting around actually giving me the price and asked me to reschedule the call when it was a more convenient time for me to sign on. The sales rep asked how I currently book weddings and was very pushy even when I told them I am a resident photographer at a local wedding venue so I don't really need their service for business. I'm thankful for these whistle-blowers exposing them so others can dodge that hot mess.

Hey John! Definitely love this style of videos! My experience on The Knot/WW was mixed and I thought I'd share. A friend of mine books a lot of weddings through them so I reached out to get pricing. The sales person gave me a brief presentation about who they are and a demo of what managing a vendor page looks like and the features included. When it came time to discuss pricing I knew the initial options were expensive and they told me I could be on a higher tier for The Knot and a lower one for WW. It was still pretty steep and out of nowhere they said they could run some "love at first sight" discount or something. It really felt like spinning some gimmicky carnival wheel to see what kind of discount I was eligible for. The "discount wheel" price was a bit high but I figured it was feasible if I booked about 2 or 3 weddings from it. I did book just around that amount. I definitely had leads that appeared to be real couples through my own research but it was very clear most of them were fake. The weddings I did actually book went very well and the couples were great to work with! About a month before my contract was ending I told them I didn't want to renew. As soon as I reached out to cancel I got no solid leads whatsoever. For the amount of money they are getting from people they could afford to host a better website and fix their mobile app too. Overall, not recommended.

John OMG. Ever since I signed up for what's now "Wedding Pro" which is just advertising on both sites at the same time, I felt like I was sold a used car in a slimy dealership. They put so much pressure on me, then made me think they were helping out by lowering my monthly payment to half of what they tried to get me to agree to, and I fell for it. I've felt gross about it ever since. Now, since January, I've booked four weddings from it, BUT even still, I don't feel yet like I'm getting my money's worth. 8/10 leads are clearly fake, be it scammers, bots, or whatever. And same as you, they completely reworded my bio on Wedding Wire without telling me, and the stuff they put in didn't even make any sense to my business. Over the last month, I've been feeling extra weird about them. I'm so glad you put this video out, makes me feel like I'm not that crazy or paranoid after all.

I feel the exact same way with thumbtack. It seems to be a major hustle going on with marketing businesses scheming on the vendors. I was interested in the knot because I honestly just thought most wedding photographers were on there and that was the next level. So far I've been able to book a good flow through word of mouth but wanted to take it up a notch. Thank you for the informative video and perspective.

When The Knot worked it was absolutely amazing. But it never seemed to have longevity to it. You would think from a business perspective that The Knot would make sure to keep all of the vendors paid so that they would keep us on the platform. But at this point more organic means and paid ads are probably the best choice. There are some other platforms that are coming up as well.

So here in France they own the european equivalent of the Knot. Their sales reps are so pushy, they tell you "nobody will find you on our website if you don't pay" or "I have one spot left for you in your area, you need to decide quick". Last time I've heard from them I said "nah I'm good, I don't like being forced, therefore I will never trust you". One year without any phonecall. Before that it was every 2-3 months. But I've heard stories from DJs, cake designers or wedding planners : they were new, they fall into their promises, paid a lot for their young business and never saw a big difference. Their scam is not just in America but worldwide.

Staying relevant is key so how bad can it be. BRO…I called them and said, you guys have your own BOTS don’t you!? She said what? I told her how 13 leads in the last two weeks and none of them respond to me. I even tried texting the bride directly and nothing. You can’t tell me that 13 different brides all decided to ghost me after the initial inquiry. After the year was up and I cancelled, even though I have a basic listing, not 1 knot inquiry has come through since. These inquiries are not real people. It’s all a scam!

Honestly, I signed up because I saw you singing their praises and recommending them. In a year I didn’t book a single wedding, and when I went to them about it they “revamped” my page and then I suddenly got a burst of leads…all fake. Then they make it so you auto-renew and if you don’t cancel within a small window it auto-renews and you can’t cancel. Even after I cancelled they called me and tried to tell me I was behind and I was never cancelled, but since I ordered a new card they couldn’t bill me. They are dirty and I would go back and get rid of those sponsored vids honestly.

I do think they prioritize new listings to build excitement and get results for new people. I know I got 2 bookings almost immediately after joining. As the years went by, my listing kept dropping lower and lower on the first page. They told me listings shuffle and will be on different areas of the page every hour. So, I did some research and tracked listings. Mine never got above the bottom few rows. They never had answers for why this happened, just kept saying I needed to try making various changes and maybe that would help get leads. I eventually dropped them and later rejoined simply because I didn’t have time to figure out social media ads. I do get a few leads here and there but most are lower budget. I don’t doubt some people can find success with it, but definitely not something to use on its own.

John, first love your content and Natural Feels is amazing! I think one big thing to consider is where you are advertising on The Knot. I live in the DC area so having their name for yoru SEO does actually get you work without being on the featured page. However, I did have a very poor experience with them a few years ago and did risk it for a second go around. Luckily I have been able to book about 7 weddings which did pay for the year subscription. This is not to say that fake leads and such don't appear because they absolutely do, but no where near as bad as a few years ago prior to their merger. My contract expires in a few months so it will be interesting to see how the change to month-to-month affects the lead production. My advice would be set an overall number that is feaible (i.e. I said no more than $3000 for the year so turning a single wedding would be a break even point). If anyone wants to talk more about this service, i'd be more than happy to provide compare and contrast on pre and post merger experience. I would be very interested in hearing your take on booking weddings without using services like The Knot, Thumbtack, etc. Keep crushing it man, you inspire a lot of people!

I hear you can get a job for 4K+ being on these promotional sites but in the end if you have to pay for so much overhead and end up with 1K+ like on you own from before it's not beneficial. I turned them down years ago because I enjoy photography and sharing my talent and creating memories, I've been married for 46 years and retired but value and cherish my family photos but not to water down my work. It's an art and you have to put in you love as if it's your own, best all the time, otherwise you're doing something wrong. keep doing what you do

As someone who built sites when all this was getting started… there absolutely was a time that you could through grassroots effort get good advertising from social media but with the advent of AI and all the algorithms they pretty much have it on lock but you will get zero progress unless you pay them a lot of money and even then it’s not guaranteed. But anybody trying to sell you a marketing package that’s guaranteed is full of crap anyway. Just focus on your local may be regional market it to local shows get boots on the ground and net work the old-fashioned way probably ends up being cheaper except may be in time.

I get the impression that every single directory/platform is based on the same principle (scamming people) and unfortunately I hear only negative experiences from fellow wedding suppliers. I am based in the Netherlands and last year joined the local wedding platform called ‘The Perfect Wedding’ and so far have had the same experience that you are describing here. Pushy sales people, blaming me for not getting bookings because I have no reviews on my profile, and when I match with a potential couple through them I get charged extra but then get ghosted. So yeah, it’s proving to be waste of time and money unfortunately.

Love this! I have been considering it for the past few years now but I have always got a super bad vibe from all of their salespeople (feels kind of pyramid schemish). I definitely will not be doing it after this article!

Yeah, I was looking into the monthly cost for wedding wire a few months back, and that's how all of my phone calls went. As if this is was the golden opportunity that I was looking for. The monthly cost was high, and she was trying her best to push me into it. After a while I got her to just send me pricing and I just left it at that. Didn't like the vibe, so i didn't pursue it. Might have dodged a bullet.

I had a few calls with them and as a sales guy myself I was greatly turned off by them and the sleazy way they were conducting sales tactics. It all felt like someone was trying to sell a timeshare to me. The price was far too expensive and I wasn't confident they could actually get me the results. Glad I never signed up with them.

I'm actually pretty happy with them. I pay the medium price, and I've got about 15 or more weddings from them, definitely paid back. Let's see how it goes after my first year ends, now it's slow like everything is in July, but I still get some.

You know what should be covered, it’s pay to win. Any website that tells you hey pay this much you will be on our first page, that’s not a competitive market, you are basically paying to be put first on a list of people selling the same thing you are.

I literally signed up a week ago and while I haven't seen a single lead from The Knot my foot traffic on my actual website has increased over night. Prior to The Knot I would shoot local events and would actually book weddings that way while building my wedding portfolio. It would be better just to do up coming wedding shows and booth work.

the knot sucks, i never paid for a premium account but ive heard so many horror stories with fake leads. what i hate the most is that over the last few years with their new owners, they made it so. you cant modify your account and page info unless you have a paid account. so right now my knot account says my packages are 1/3 the price of what they are now and has info when i used to work with my ex 🤦‍♂ ive contemplated multiple times if its worth keeping or not

More off the cuff videos. Yes. I advertised with The Knot in 2009 and went in debt thousands of dollars with very little payoff to advertise with them. When I tried again in 2021, I got crap leads and booked only enough weddings for it to pay for itself. Not worth it. And yes. Wedding Wire is a complete dumpster fire.

They are simply a scam. I had to file a fraud claim against them for unauthorized charges, I had an account manager directly lie to me about their contract details, they are suddenly trying to bill me for a random amount of money after no business with them for 6 months. They give fake leads, this has been proven & was admitted by the employees that work there

A few days after making this video I saw the email about their new ad. Trying to push to get actual couple on the platform since they doin't have enough to service all of the vendors. The sad part is a story like this is not even going to make a dent in their business and us as vendors will just have to use them still if we want to hope to get any work.

Been paying for The Knot for nearly 10 years now. It seemed great for business in 2015-2018. Now it's absolute crap. I've had so many scams come through as well as just nonsense "inquiries" I'm livid that I've spent so much money and have very little to show for it. Better yet, their BS award. Oh don't even get me started on their crap award winning best of the knot scam. Anybody can win! My dog could be an award winning photography and now all it takes is 5 reviews. It used to be 15 but no, now it's 5. Chat GPT can literally generate 1,000 reviews in seconds. They mean nothing. This is crap and I'm canceling all my storefronts right now. I'll keep my free listing because it "helps" with SEO but this is trash and you're not getting another dollar from me. Simply Love Films, out! 🎤 ✌
