Hey San Dog. I just wanted to say thank you. Rigged up like this yesterday and caught 3 Hali in Pt. Loma channel. 19,19 and 20. Bummer no dinner but thats a first for me catching 3 in an hour. Also caught a 3.5 to 4.5 foot shark. You da man.

Excellent tutorial.... I've always used the bouncing ball in San Francisco Bay, but I'm not having any luck here in SD. I will switch to this method now. Thanks for the class. 👍👍

I use a similar set up with sliding sinker, bead and treble hook that the deck hands on the Lenbrooke taught me in 1980 when fishing halibut in the Santa Monica Bay. I fish the Big Bay mostly and outside off Corodado Island since moving my boat to the Marine Corp Recruit Depot near Liberty station..

I guarantee I see your boat a lot. I fish the dock at liberty Station all the time. What's her name... I'll give her a shout out next time I'm near her 😅😅😅

@@sandog In recent months I have been fishing with a partner on a 23 foot Boston whaler outrage. We launch from the MCRD launch ramp. For 10 years I lived on a 32 foot flybridge sedan on the furthest south end tie at the ASW base across from the harbor island fuel dock. Her name was “JOLLY MON” she was very visible from the water. I often talked to boats and kayaks going by my boat. For the last five years my 32 footer was in the slip at MCRD. She was not very visible there. I was not very visible there either. I have lived in a residential care facility for the elderly for the last four years. I am 74 years old. My partner on the Boston whaler is 79 years old. We are both having problems with neck injuries. We have not fished very much over the last six months. The name of the Boston whaler is “WILL SPENT”. Sometimes we do launch in mission bay. Because of our advancing age and physical problems, we have scaled back our fishing trips. We don’t chase tuna anymore and stick pretty close to the coast. We have been fishing shallow water rockfish and halibut for a couple years. Hopefully we’ll be able to get out in the next couple months. The only suggestion I have about halibut is that I do not use a double hook setup. I use a single treble hook through the nose. I fished for 10 years for halibut in the Santa Monica bay on the half day boats watching people try to every trick in the world to catch halibut. I caught bigger fish and won more jackpots and a $2000 outboard motor in the Santa Monica bay halibut derby using a single treble hook through the nose. I like your youtube presentation and I subscribed.

@Hoppy Weiss Animal Lover sorry to hear about you and your buddy having those issues. It sounds like you've had a heck of a time, though. If you want.... you and your buddy can plan a trip, and I'll come with and make a video if you'd like. Put it on here, and you guys can have a trip to look back and watch forever. I've done that for a few people.... but at a minimum, now that I know your boat, I'll give he r a shout-out when I cruise buy her. Let me know when you go out... even if it's just the 2 of you, and maybe i can meet you down there on my yak. Tight lines, brother!

Cool new easy way to fish a stinger rig for halibut. But in theory I would think putting the line through the other side of the j hook eye could improve hook up ratio even more 🤙

Thank you for sharing, It seems your setup is for shore or jetty fishing which is a lot of fun. For offshore in a boat for bigger halibut the setup is heavier when fishing at debts of 180 to 400 ft. deep. I use 1 to 2 LBS weight with 150 LBS leader 100 LBS braided line attached to main line 80 LBS test. Bait is a combination I like to use is herring, octopus or squid , and salmon strips all on one 7/O to 9/O size circle hook.

Got any videos of how to hook it to live bait properly?
@sandog
@sandog 12 күн бұрын
@Xhalegaming I do mention it in a few videos. The J hook goes sideways through the nose, and the treble goes in the back, by the tail, on the top part of the sardine, 1 barb in and out

My trap hooks fall out of the bait about 90% of the time. Any tips to keep them in place?
@sandog
@sandog Жыл бұрын
Give a quick jerk, and try and keep a good bend in the rod. If they pop off... take it out of gear and drop the bait back down as soon as it pops off. They pop off mine sometimes as well 🤷‍♂️
