Former homeless here. Skid Row, sleeping on buses, you get it. I just got a job offer as a software engineer, self-taught. - THE LIBRARY IS YOUR FRIEND!!!!!! - if you don't have a place to stay, sleep in the day, and visit 24 hr diners at night. Bring your library book, notebook, something to write with. Tell them you're there to study bc your roommates are a distraction. - if possible, 24 hr gyms like planet fitness are the Best For hygiene and safety. - sleep in the day, if you can. You’ve found Arlan - perhaps others like myself as well - who are sharing what we’ve learned so far, in a way that is accessible to you right now - even while we remain eternal learners, as well. You are experiencing life in a way that gives you a unique story to tell, as you shift from one who is unhoused and unemployed to being successful business owner, a homeowner, and real estate investor, or whatever your goals are. This is genius! Online teaching is fantastic. If (only if) you'd be willing to temporarily relocate to work in a district that pays well, consider Chinle USD in AZ. Housing is pre-tax and INEXPENSIVE (Less than $500). It's REMOTE, but worth it. My mom has been there for 5 years.

I did this while working 10-12 hours a job and doing it for myself as I was building my business. Starting from being a photographer (like you) to building out web/blog sites, e-commerce sites, doing video projects and a lot of other things. Remember that if you do work for a "gig" company, you should get extra insurance that covers you for that job in case you're in an accident. It's a different type of insurance coverage to cover you since the gig company doesn't. read the fine print of their contracts.

This couldn't have come at a better time. I'm considering all your ideas to try this weekend! First off, homelessness is an awful reality. Painful, and a rut very difficult to climb out of. That being said, I have a job that's almost full time and I CAN ask for more hours if I want! Currently trying to reduce that number lol but open to picking up extra shifts moving forward to give myself a regular routine of reg. pay as well as overtime pay. Also, I've just recently made the decision to do print-to-order t-shirt design! I'm expecting my first hoodie sample in a couple of days and I've been racking my brain to try to figure out how I can sell a bunch using a pre-order model. I think your bumpsales technique could work and I'm SO excited to try! Thanks so much for this wealth of information! It's truly from people who know what it's like to be down and push themselves to get ahead that know how to give advice on work ethic, attitude and morale when it comes to pursuing goals. I am a fiber and graphic designer. I'm presently building a website (🤬) to present my graphic designs for sale on canvas, fabric and other items. I am learning how to crochet handbags and a very special ethnic bag as well. My selling theme is "cottagecore" I intend this to grow, but I'm more interested in articulating and combining those skills more to my desired focalpoint. I've been grinding on this while homeless for months! I started watching Arlan at just a perfect time! I feel I'm right on track. Even more confident watching this video. A thousand dollars by itself won't get me off the street, but it will get me closer to much needed meals that aren't such garbage and be able to physically DO more. I gotta get back to the present grind: binging Arlan videos while crocheting 'high end' handbags to sell locally and online. My biggest hurdle is getting stranded in a totally ignorant town whose library is closed more than open. This town is also very prejudice against homeless. Plugging in a phone, accessing wifi, let alone bathrooms; is very challenging. I remember to stay up. Just keep my head up and with blinders on, imma get there. I am in the midst of a career shift and have been overwhelmed by defining what it is. I have a lot of energy and value to offer in my couple decades as a working artist in the industrial arts.
