There has been some confusion outside of the state of Ohio concerning exactly what the Ohio State Football team helmet stickers actually represent!
The Ohio State football team is known as the "buckeyes" in the college football sports world. The State of Ohio is known as the "buckeye" state. The mascot of the Ohio State football teams is a "Buckeye". Explore the history of the state of Ohio and and how residents became known as the "buckeyes". From an act of derision to state pride the Ohio Buckeye tree became an emblem and identifier of the state of Ohio. With a distinctive nut that looks like, well, a buck's eye and a recognizable leaf made of 5 leaflets, these became the symbols of the state and football team. While the nuts are actually toxic, fans will make buckeye-look candy from chocolate and peanut butter. On the amusing side, some people today are confused by the shape of the leaf and mistake it for a marijuana symbol. Marijuana, however, actually has 7 leaflets making up a single leaf and not five.
