Immediately after playing RE8 on hard mode my first time through, after getting frustrated after dying 20 times, I reinstalled this game on steam and played through the entire village sequence. Was a nice palate cleanser before I went back to RE8 on normal!

Play the Village opening siege thing and then play 4's - it's a great demonstration of how amazing it was for a game released in 2005. I truly believe 4's version is far, far better despite it's age, which really says something about just how well it was designed.

Still remember playing this section for the first time on the Wii version; to this day, I stand by it’s the best way to play it. Love the videos Ben!

I would agree its the best way to play if it wasn't for the stupid aiming crosshair. They could have had the exact same motion controls and just kept the laser sights. That goofy crosshair really makes it difficult to sink into the atmosphere for a bit.

Just one note on the mechanics here... I love how the enemies react differently to being shot in differently body parts. A minor detail that might seem trivial, but so many games just ignore it altogether, or throw in a one-stagger-fits-all-animation.

You're spot on, was an absolute gamechanger at the time. I really liked how Capcom mixed things up as the game progressed too. Headshots becoming more of a risk due to the possibility of plagas appearing, the regenerators requiring certain spots be shot etc.

I recently played it after like 8 years when i first heard about it I played RE 5 with my dad and he always was praising this game but i didnt understand why until like 3 months ago. Fucking phenomenal game

After finding you channel due to your Halo videos, I've sat and watched them all after work over the course of the week and watched a few other of your videos too. May I say your content is fantastic! The narration and delivery is clear, crisp and concise! No messing around and you get straight to the point, you deserve way more subs mate! Oh and P.S have you ever played the S.T.A.L.K.E.R and the F.E.AR series and would you consider making videos on them?? Both are iconic and genre moulding! P.P.S The first time the chainsaw "bag head" made a bee line for me first time playing this made me almost piss my pants! Terrifying as a early teen playing in the dark!

I remember being so annoyed watching the trailers as I absolutely adore the Raccoon City side of things in 1-3. However, when it came out I was absolutely blown away, must have played the whole thing through in about two days.

Am I the only one who saw the picture for this video and thought "Fuck Yeah, DUSK!"? Game starts you off literally hanging from meathooks and then ripping out those meathooks and murdering a pack of chainsaw wielding maniacs with them. Best opening, 10/10.

I really wanted to get into resident evil 4, but i really hated the controls. The game was cool, but i had to stop only a few hours in because the controls felt so... off. Same thing happened with fallout new vegas.

I can see that - it sits in that weird in between space where they absolutely nailed the camera but hadn't quite got the move/look controls sorted out like other titles later would. Aiming with the left analogue stick always confuses me!

Idk I think Gears of War was much more influential as a 3rd Person Shooter. It came out only a year later but literally every mechanic was infinitely more refined and polished. Of course, I'm an extreme hater of "I have to stand still to shoot" so RE has never really vibed with me anyways.

Tell me about it mate, I'd be quite happy if Resident Evil stopped doing character switches entirely as they nearly never work. I hate the switch from Ethan to Mia in 7 in particular, ruined the flow of the game completely.
