NOTE FROM TED: This talk represents the speaker's personal views and understanding of the Bible and homosexuality; some viewers may be offended by it. The guidelines we give TEDx organizers are described in more detail here: storage.ted.com/tedx/manuals/t...
Considering the violence and hate the LGBTQIA+ community faces on a daily basis, DePaul University theatre student Isaiah Boozer examines the roots of homophobia within the Black community in America through spoken word poetry, considering different translations of the Bible and the country’s history of enslavement.
Isaiah is freshman in The Theatre School. He is a multifaceted artist, playwright, screenwriter, 2021 US Presidential Scholar semifinalist and 2021 National YoungArts Winner as an actor. His mission is to create art that interrogates his trials, tribulations and triumphs, and our flawed culture pertaining to race, gender, sexuality and the cognitive dissonance within our societal norms. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at www.ted.com/tedx

I notice this myself. You’d think a community that was oppressed for decades would be more open.

That's what one would think. But it turns out, people that experience oppression often want to oppress other marginalized groups. It's sad.

Views has very very little to do with whether the subject being talked about is the truth or not. Most people who read the title probably just weren’t interested in the topic. Someone could make a video on the Earth being round, it’ll probably get low views even though it’s the truth. So is it getting low views because the majority of people think the Earth is flat and thus don’t want to watch the video that would go against their preconceived notions? Or is it getting low views because the majority of people would rather watch something they’re interested in over a video about the Earth being round?

no one wants preachers any more... we want information. but... for some topics, people don't pay attention to facts. then we need passionate intellectualism.
