Thank you for this review of the Revised NWT. Two things I wanted to point out. The previous version of the NWT, now known as the reference Bible is also quite different from the current 2013 revision. I find this very disturbing. When you are pointing out discrepancies, can you please indicate these changes as well? I believe the previous version was much more carful with the wording. The second point: For your next segment of “Doctored” could you do a search on the 18 occurrences where the 2013 revision has used the word procedure to doctor the text for organizational purposes. This was not done in the previous version. The current leadership has gone far beyond what our previous generation was taught. Thank you for considering these points.

Hi Lloyd, I found an interesting one in 2 Kings 3: 26 - 27 Not sure if this has already been covered, please ignore if it has. Most translations render it as wrath or anger, but NWT renders it indignation which feels a bit toned down. Thanks for all the hard work you put into your videos.

My suggestion is Numbers 31:18. Here the 2013 revision left out "for yourselves", which was in the previous version of NWT. This seems to be trying to soften the horrible sex slave narrative of this hideous chapter.

That was interesting what you mentioned about resinous wood. I had a look on google though and once researched does make a lot of sense. Incase anyone is interested, resinous wood belongs to the family of coniferous tress including pine, cedar, spruce and more. It is one of the best materials for construction due to their low density making it easier to work with. This would have helped the ark in floating rather than using heavier and denser wood. It also withstands water the best( which there would’ve been a lot of). Also imagine the sheer amount of wood it would have taken to build the ark. Maybe asking for resinous wood allowed different types of the wood in that family to be used ensuring there was enough instead of specifically asking for one type which would have been a lot harder to make sure there was enough. Asking for specifically one type of wood to be used would have made Noah’s work way harder if not impossible. This was all done by hand no equipment to transport that type of tree from other areas. I thought that was interesting and wanted to share 😊

It’s completely an additional word not found in the interlinear, not even the kingdom interlinear. Titus 2:13 the is added in the 1984 edition, and our is added in the 2013 addition. Changing the meaning of the verse to stray away from the godhead unity. Romans 9:5 is also a favorite because there is no added words. But punctuation which changes the way it’s perceived. To be accurate Lloyd is incorrect on Genesis 6:14. The Hebrew says “עצי גפר״. Using Latin letters “Atzai Gopher”. The translations are using the same word as the Hebrew and are not actually providing a equivalent English word. Jastrow which is the gold standard English-Hebrew dictionary in Jewish circles (I have no idea about what is used in Christian circles) defines gopher as “a resinous tree”. He cites the Talmud as identifying it as a species of ceder. In this case the JW’s are likely more correct

Gopher is just a transliteration of the Hebrew word. I don't think there's anything insidious about it, it's just one of those words in Hebrew we don't know the meaning of. It could be cypress. It is close to the word kopher, 'tar', which is probably the association WT was going for. They do use a transliterated word when describing the window thing in earlier revisions, so I guess they could have used it here. Perhaps fudging away the fact that we clearly don't know all of Hebrew is their problem here. This is all in the Insight book, so it's surprising Lloyd didn't address it. Nothing to do with gophers. But the Bible having been written in a language that we can't ever fully decipher is another concern though, since it sort of goes against the whole divine authorship, doesn't it.
@LloydEvans Жыл бұрын
I didn’t suggest it had anything to do with actual gophers, but yes, why would a God who wants to communicate clearly with his creation choose a word that can’t be understood by the overwhelming majority of readers?

Hiya! I love researching things and just wanted to throw in an idea. So in history people had many gods in different religions. I believe witnesses believe that Jehovah is the true god. Although in the past, people would have had other gods they were not the true god. Many worshipped statues and idols that didn’t necessarily hold meaning. So there were many gods that people believed in but only one true God that proved He was real. Therefore stating ‘a god’ in the bible was simply speaking of these ones other people believed in, but not God, if that makes sense. Also the bible was inspired by god, so when it states that the word is ‘a god’ it also means divine because it came from him but is not Him. Not the one true God that they believed. Just throwing in an idea 😊
@JazmineTaglienti-yi8tt Жыл бұрын
Also one other point haha when it comes to the trinity. One thing I found spoke about how, if Jesus came down to the earth, and God, Jesus and the Holy Spirit are one, who was behind in heaven? In Matthew 3:17 it talks about when Jesus was baptised, a voice from heaven said, ‘this is my son, the beloved, whom I have approved’ so it makes you wonder who that was since Jesus wouldn’t approve and speak down to himself 😅 it was the words of a loving and proud father to his son
@pearlytiger564 Жыл бұрын
@@JazmineTaglienti-yi8tt oh goodness ... heavens no. I don't think you understand that in this part of scripture when it states "the Word" that is referencing Jesus as well, because "the Word became flesh and dwelt among us." The JWs absolutely 100% believe that when scripture is referencing "The Word" here, it's talking about Jesus AND God depending on which part of the verse you are reading. But because the JWs do not believe in the Trinity, they added "a" to when it states the "the Word was God," and changed God to god, because they couldn't figure out another way to change scripture to make it fit their anti-trinity agenda. So from what you are saying above, is that JWs believe in multiple gods, which is absolutely not the case. That is why this change they made in scripture points out one of the biggest fallacies in their doctrinal beliefs. It just doesn't work and makes ZERO sense.

Gensis 2:19 JW newest bible puts the creation of animals in past sentence, instead of in present, to fit the first creation story where animals was created first and then man. It says: "Now Jehovah God HAD BEEN forming from the ground every wild animal of the field and every flying creature of the heavens, and he began bringing them to the man to see what he would call each one" Older versions of JW bible and other bibles says: "Now Jehovah God WAS forming from the ground every wild beast of the field and every flying creature of the heavens, and he began bringing them to the man to see what he would call each one" Also this: Genesis 2:18 still talks about the creation of a helper for Adam is something that is going to happen, and then in 2:19 it happens, but no, not in the new JW bible there it has suddenly already happend, in the past. Makes no sense. When JW changed 2:19 to past sentense they should probably have changed 2:18 too, to fit.

Regarding Philippians 2:5,6. Both the NWT and the others in Bible Hub are saying the same thing. The fact that the NWT doesn't have the word for grasping is irrelevant. They all give the same idea, that of Christ not trying to be equal to God. And that's the important thing. That the correct meaning is portrayed. If it was trying to say something different to the original Greek then you would have a good point, but it doesn't. Admittedly, some of the translations are confusing. King James seems to be saying the complete opposite to all the others.

Regarding Phil 2:5-6, one can read many early Christian commentaries on the verse. I do however like the clarity of Aquinas (Commentary on Phil.): _For it is through its form that a thing is said to be in a specific or generic nature; hence the form is called the nature of a thing. Consequently, to be in the form of God is to be in the nature of God. By this is understood that He is true God: [“That we may be in his true Son, Jesus Christ” (1 Jn. 5: 20) ]. However, it should not be supposed that the form of God is one thing and God himself another, because in simple and immaterial things, and especially in God, the form is the same as that whose form it is._ _But why does he say, in the form, rather than “in the nature”? Because this belongs to the proper names of the Son in three ways: for He is called the Son, the Word and the Image. Now the Son is the one begotten, and the end of begetting is the form. Therefore, to show the perfect Son of God he says, in the form, as though having the form of the Father perfectly. Similarly, a word is not perfect unless it leads to a knowledge of a thing’s nature; and so the Word of God is said to be in the form of God, because He has the entire nature of the Father. Finally, an image is not perfect, unless it has the form of that of which it is the image: “He reflects the glory of God and bears the very stamp of his nature” (Heb. 1:3)._ _But does He have it perfectly? Yes, because He did not count equality with God a thing to be grasped. This can be taken two ways: in one way, of His humanity. But this is not the way Paul understood it, because it would be heretical; for it would be a grasping [robbery] if it referred to his humanity. Therefore, it must be explained in another way, namely, of His divinity, according to which equality with God is said of Christ. It is contrary to reason to say otherwise: because the nature of God cannot be received in matter; but the fact that someone existing in a certain nature participates in that nature to a greater or lesser degree is due to the matter; which is not the case here. Therefore, we must say that He did not count equality with God a thing to be grasped, because He is in the form of God and knows His own nature well. And because He knows this, it is stated in John (5: 18): “He called God his Father, making himself equal with God.” But this is not a grasping, as it was when the devil and man wished to be equal to Him: “I will make myself like the Most High” (Is. 14:1 4); “You will be like God” (Gen. 3:5), for which Christ came to make satisfaction: “What I did not steal must I now restore?” (Ps. 69:4). Then when he says, but emptied himself, he commends Christ’s humility: first, as to the mystery of the incarnation; secondly, as to the mystery of the passion (2:8). In regard to the first: first, he mentions His humility; secondly, its manner and form (2:7)._

In the BOOK OF PHILIPPIANS 2:5-6. I don't know that is an addition or if that is a result of later scribes inserting their Trinitarian beliefs into the text, but I don't that passage has anything to do with the Trinity. It sounds to me like it could be saying that Jesus has a divine sort of nature, but that he doesn't use that as a bragging point to try and say that he is equal to God. Really, these alleged words are supposed to be coming from a man who claimed to be speak on behalf of God, one who said that no one cannot come to God without acknowledging his authority as God's only then-spokesperson. Sometimes it hard to tell the difference with see self-proclaimed messiahs and prophets, and Jesus was only one out of multiple people who have done this throughout religious history. The historical Jesus was a bizarre, sincere man. Harmless and likely well-meaning but still, what bizarre little dude. Now, I'm an atheist and though I think the earliest Christians were nontrinitarian, I don't care if individual Christians in today's world believe in Trinitarianism or nontrinitarian theology. I have no reason to believe in either concept. To me, it's utterly irrelevant. I think it's always interesting to compare translations of the Bible. But you know, even if the Bible was "God's Word", I still would find many concepts and rules to be wrong and harmful and would not follow them, no matter what punishment I might be given for choosing not to adhere to said rules or concepts.

The KINGDOM of GOD The "Kingdom of God" is the Creator's Rulership through Jesus Christ that will destroy and put an end to all the Satanic arrogance, lies, deceptions, hypocrisies, and cruelties of Satan the Devil's Atheism, Agnosticism, and Religious Fanaticism and ensures planet earth is secure, safe, and peaceful for all lowly, kind, and submissive human beings who will be allowed by the Creator to live and exist on earth forever without sufferings, pains, griefs, sickness, and deaths as their honor and reward for being submissive and obedient to the authorities, teachings, and commandments of the Creator and His Christ. The RESURRECTION of the DEAD The "Resurrection of the Dead" is the Creator's guarantee that all lowly, kind, and submissive human beings who died even thousands of years ago like Abel, Noah, Abraham, Isaac, Jacob, Moses, King David, the Christ's believers, and many others will not remain as worthless dusts on earth forever, instead in his own right time, the Creator will let Jesus Christ resurrect them back to life so they can live and exist again on a safe, secure, and peaceful earth as submissive and obedient citizens of the "Kingdom of God" and fully enjoy the eternal love, kindness, goodness, generosities, compassions, favors, and blessings of the Creator and his Christ for eternity under the loving and kind rulership, guidance, and protection of the Creator's Chosen King and Ruler of the heavens and the earth, his Christ.
