I always come to your channel when there's another update with exams but something needs to be said the government NEEDS to give us some clarification, constant updates and not leave us in the dark worrying when our 'exams' will take place, how they will be assessed there is not a day that goes by where students do not worry about their exams

I am praying they dont take into account all the exams I did before the mocks. I spent hours everyday revising for the mocks bringing all my grades from a rough 5 to 7+. Hopefully they remove all that data of my 5 so it doesn’t affect my grade

I understand that you're trying to be optimistic about exams being cancelled, but there is no point in cancelling exams in the first place: instead of solving the real problem, the government has just plunged EVERYONE into a situation where our futures are forced into the hands of favouritism, cheating and sitting exams prematurely. How can TAGs ever be objective? Personally, I feel so let down, upset, stressed and feel like all my hard work and dedication since Year 10 has gone down the drain. I get that schools are providing different levels of support, but I think the government should have done more to solve that: cancelling exams actually disadvantages those people more because they won't have the opportunity to sit formal exams (and adjust to the nerves), as well as not achieving their personal best.

Agree. I really wanted to have the opportunity to sit exams for the experience of formally doing exams. At Least before A Levels where we'll be thrusted into 2h long exams. Gcses are supposed to be the foundation for it. And likewise. All that hard work and revision put to no use as results are now in the hands of teachers and who knows what biases they may have. I never really got to show proof of hardwork and revision as I never did mocks or exams and I couldn't increase any of my old predicted grades (based off of the few months in year 10) I have no idea if doing online work will contribute at all to my results (we don't even get it for all subjects) or what work I'm supposed to be doing at all in lockdown or what exactly we're expected to do upon returning in February since exams are cancelled? What now? I'm lost to be honest

Hello, I bought your macbeth guide and can't find the 19 essays, what page would some be on as I'm revising for mocks and I found your videos so good that I had to buy the books! I also bought your an inspector calls guide. I have a tip tohogh, they had no content page and it might be better in the future to include a content page in these books so you can go straight to where you want to go as I did find it a little hard trying to search for what I was looking for without a content page like you have in your language book. In September 2020 I started English Literature for the first time, I had no prior experience or knowledge about what it meant or what I have to do. I went from basically ungraded to a grade 9 my teacher wanted me to do a level Literature because I understood the texts so well, they even said I analysed it better than some of their class mates a masters degree level. I was home schooled but I now do gcse at college I cannot say how much this guy and Mark Birch has helped me understand Literature so clearly, I'm amazed that me with no experience has become their most capable student ever and it was a shock to me too when they told me that.

i don’t know how to feel about it, because whilst i’m relieved and a weight has been lifted, i’m also unsure. what with missing 5ish months of learning because of having to move online, the constant evasion of providing clarity from boris and gavin, and the record numbers in cases, the fairest thing to do is cancel the exams - especially compared to last year, who, in retrospect, would have been far more likely to do their exams had it not been an unknown circumstances. however, we’ve also had next to no experience with proper exams - we did maths and english exams in year 9 in the same format, but our year 10 exams were online and then dismissed almost completely because they couldn’t trust people to not cheat (which is obviously going to happen, you can’t tell me giving a bunch of teens their exams at home where they have all their resources and access to the internet, that no one will cheat). along with that, we’re essentially just doing a toned down version of the exams with less preparation and knowledge - it’s such a complicated situation that my mind is constantly switching between what i wished happened

Mate if your in yr10 don’t stress I litterally did no work and did no work until 2 month before the exam I went from a U to a 5/6 average in 2 month while balancing all 11 subjects. My best tip is to just start revising maths and science at least Pray for me I’m trying to get to 7 8 9 🙏

The only teachers in the universe who see mock exams as accurate measures of where students grades are and are likely to be are maths teachers. Everyone else sticks a finger in the wind and 'uses professional judgment' to guess how their students will improve from the mock.

Not only that, but the students will also get their opportunity to experience that exam experience they will be missing out on. They have already worked hard to get where they are, albeit amidst covid chaos. Let's at least make their final weeks worthwhile.

@@juliecrooke Hi Julie, although I completely agree with your last sentence, I don’t share your view of how to get there. Imagine the government banned any kind of mock, or exam style assessment. What would you teach your students that would make them great at the subject you love? How would you decide how good they were at English? I am old enough to have taught 100% coursework, where students had to write 10 different pieces across several genres which led to students being much better writers. What if you told your class that you were going to publish a book of their best writing and each of them would have to submit 3 pieces? (It costs nothing to do this on Amazon, by the way!)

I sit in the fence here actually as I believe that exams, in part, assess that moment in time; many students struggling to deal with the whole exam situation. However, coursework based subjects can be a huge challenge for many students that cannot produce large amounts of written work. Even BTEC options, which are supposedly meant to be easier on SEND students, are a huge challenge. I wish I knew what the answers were but I think we all just want the best for our students; with the least stress but maximum opportunity for success. Let's hope this years cohort gets the best outcome!

But there are thousand of jobs in the real world ,such as being a doctor or a chemist And of course you would need to learn the foundations of it and that is in secondary where you take part in the GCSE course... That's why schools don't do the stuff you've mentioned in your list.

okay, so my mocks were scheduled to be right after the Feb holidays. Do you think that this would still be the case or do you think that they would postpone them so that we could get some face to face time before these mocks for support?

If we r at home and closure of schools remains,I highly doubt u would do exams at home but it is possible they ask u to have a camera on your computer to show that u r not cheating If we go back on time, I even still think that it could be too harsh to give mocks and either will delay it by a couple of months or just do tests in class to make a grade Who knows tho
