Playing the video, I immediately noticed that this chant is also being used here in S. Korea, as the name “임하소서 임마누엘이여(Come, o Immanuel)”. Being very far from the old Christendom, I was amused that how universal, catholic, and eternal the Catholic Church is… Love from a Catholic person of Korea, land where many people embraced Catholicism themselves, not by missionaries, and died trying to save it from the heathen Confucian government in 18-19c.

No, we haven't abandoned FBIV. Yesterday's song wasn't even posted by the same admin who speaks to you. I'm currently getting back on my feet from a huge storm of disgraces that haven't yet ended. I beg your understanding. If you allow me to lend you a bit of advice, begin by reading the Summa Theologica. Thomism isn't the only way of explaining God, and the eastern church seems to abhor Saint Thomas' way of showing God as something explainable, but this work alone was able to provide a very strong basis against many doubts and heresies for at least 800 years. If you're down to talk we're also willing to amicably and logically discuss it.

Seconding Ex Cathedra's endorsement of Aquinas' "Summa," I would point out that St. Thomas presented his proofs of God's existence to a world in which Atheism hardly existed; purely out of respect for human Reason. Also, he distinguished between "knowing" the rational proposition that there is a Creator (First Cause, First Mover) and "knowing" the personal God of Scripture. One is accessible through unaided human reason, the other requires Divine revelation and our faith. Who is Emmanuel???

It is a latinized version of the hebrew Imanu'El, which means "God with us". It was first used by the prophet Isaiah, in a prophecy that said a virgin would bear a son, and this son would be called Imanu'El, and would symbolize the presence of God Himself and His protection to the House of David (here intended as the representatives of the people of God), casting away the enemies of the kingdom of Judah. The evangelist Matthew later comes to expand the descent of the Christ, and shows how the prophecy is fulfilled on Him.
