I work a lot of excavation jobs. Anything above a 5 foot trench collapse, the worker is almost killed immediately. It's not a rescue, but a recovery. That's why it's so important to follow the proper safety procedures.

It should be called an excavation "recovery" instead of an excavation "rescue" with as long as that took.

Safety moments shouldn't have any safety violations but here there is fatal mistake. Using improper equipment for lifting ... even don't have certified lifting eye...

Good point that the fire department will not enter a trench before they ensure their own safety. They can't risk adding to the number of victims that need rescued.

this is actually not a rescue, the procedures is very slow to rescue someone if he was fully covered by the curve in.
