My dad had a stroke at 76. Guess what age I am now. I've been cutting back on garbage food and trying to eat natural food as much as possible. A stroke is scary but there are a lot of things that can incapacitate. I overdid a workout and the next day could not lift my hands to touch my head. It's amazing how crippling that is. After an MRI it's tendonitis. Slow slow healing but getting better. But that's the curse for people like us that love to build things fix things make things. Getting old losing muscle etc sucks big time. Even when younger I have no desire to rebuild massive equipment but I enjoy watching John's channel and when you can't do a whole lot anymore at least we can enjoy watching others.

John, the hole in the socket is to line up with the BB in the end of your socket wrench, or extention. It helps to keep the socket ON your wrench or extention. For that line I’d have silver soldered a sleeve of larger tube over it. It’s a very quick method and doesn’t require as much heat as brazing would. With a jewelers torch I have fixed the spring in the back of the drivers seat in my truck without messing with its temper.
@rickdiego53 ай бұрын
Your repair suggestion would work fine and it's something I might do but if you have a tig welder a skilled welder could easily fix that hole. He did a pretty good job with his mig welder and solved the problem with the least amount of time. I think John's repair will last the life of the machine.

Wow! So you can make repairs without messing up the metals hardness or temper. That is amazing 😲😲
@jatomlin19913 ай бұрын
@@wolverine89893obviously the temper is going to be affected at the weld point and as far as the heat penetrated... Problem with welding on thin springs is if you get too large of an area too hot while welding it acts as an increasingly large lever once its cooled to fracture at the area where the spring steel transitions to the weld area. Folks have been using small torches to fix springs in the upholstery world for a very long time.

It's an air line conducting turbo boost at the intake to the injector pump. It could have been easily replaced with a flexible hose sans the banjo fitting. The typical boost provided by a turbocharger is 6 to 8 pounds per square inch (psi), so high pressure is not an issue. Compare to normal atmospheric pressure is 14.7 psi at sea level.

Hey John, On the oil hose that broke behind the injection pump. You can take an angle grinder with a cut off wheel and cut through the crimped on collar, pry it off and then pull the banjo fitting out of the old hose. Take the banjo fitting and old hose to your hydraulic shop. They should be able to match up the hose and using a new crimp on collar reuse the old banjo fitting. No need to cobble all the JIC fittings and hydraulic hose to make what you need. They just wanted to sell you a $100.00 hose. Permatex Aviation gasket sealer does not harden Permatex use to make a part A and part B one was hardening and the other was non hardening. To glue gaskets on a surface use 3M weatherstrip adhesive, we call it gorilla snot in the business. Hi tack and Aviation adhesives are excellent for cooling system gaskets. Using RTV or silicone on gaskets, the RTV acts like a lubricant and the gasket can squish out when you tighten the bolts. Sometimes you have to see using your fingers instead of your eyes. You make a mental picture of what you are doing, close your eyes and feel your way around. I've had to do that many times. And on breaking the mirror, you're supposed to get 7 years of bad luck but I have a good lawyer who can get that time reduced.
@jheissjr3 ай бұрын
Do you have a name for hi tack gasket adhesive?
@LightningFabrication3 ай бұрын
@@jheissjr Permatex makes High Tack in both brush on and spray on. The brush on had been used to seal both halves of a VW air cooled engine where there is no gasket, but both can be used on gaskets. There's another similar sealant, both brush on and spray on called Copper Coat made by K&W it's specifies high temp and contains copper. If you need RTV Sealer, the best I've ever used is International Harvester T-442 Silicone Rubber. The Gorilla Snot that I refer to above is 3M weather strip adhesive. It's more like a contact adhesive where you apply it on both surfaces, let it dry then stick them together. Works great for sticking cork valve cover gaskets to the valve cover and keeping them in place if you remove the valve cover as long as you don't use it to seal the valve cover to both the valve cover and the head. Hope this helps.

The hose connector hitting the block preventing the seal is really a simple fix you could do right there. You have a lathe just make yourself a steel spacer and put your copper washer on each side of it and use a longer bolt or if you couldn't get a longer bolt you might be able to turn the head so that it will go deeper through the banjo and the spacer.

I'm not even at the end of the video yet but I'm pretty sure this thing should run a lot better cuz I could tell when it started up that the injectors were pretty weak on it and it was running pretty low on power so like I said in my first post that thing will have a lots of power and can dig through some stuff like you wouldn't believe if it's at good operating condition which you seem to keep everything in so excited to see how it all turns out and thanks for bringing us along on your Odyssey.
