Everytime Excel controls a dagger unit, a blindfold is put over his eyes. That explains why Zelkov, Kagetsu, and now Merrin have all died from the same fate.

The only exception is Yunaka, who only died last time due to the Excel special of achieving the “greater victory”.

But since he only uses daggers for Lucina chain attacks, and he doesn't use Yunaka early game (especially in a run like this where he can't forge good daggers for her) she's underleveled and outclassed by Zelkov and later Merrin as a Lucina user.
